Rules:
Rule 1: Be Nice. Respect your fellow redditor and the Northwestern community. Personal attacks, threats of violence, hate speech, and unnecessarily rude or targeted posts are not acceptable.
Rule 2: Don't Spam. Posts that advertise or are seeking student participants for jobs, surveys, or research studies will be removed if they do not meet the following conditions:
(a) Posts of this type require a clearly-stated reason why the request/offer is specific to the Northwestern community.
(b) Posts should follow Reddit's guidlines for self-promotion, particularly the 10% rule. If not, posters must message moderators for prior approval.
(c) Posts should not be made on a recurring basis.
Rule 3: Don't Ask About Admissions Odds. Posts that specifically ask about the odds of being admitted will be removed. Why we remove these.
Rule 4: Don't Try to Buy or Sell Things. We don't have any way to verify sellers or buyers and this isn't really the place to try and make transactions. This includes apartment sublets/rentals. Giving away things for free is generally okay (we'll decide on a case-by-case basis). To buy or sell things, try the Northwestern Free & For Sale Facebook group, or some other platform.
NOTE: Due to potential spam, Automod removes posts made by an account less than one day old and/or with a comment karma of less than 5. If your post is removed, please give us a few hours to manually approve it.

hello r there any internationals here that applied ED and got accepted with a full ride to northwestern?
Title. I'm not looking for anything about being 1000% sure for ED, it's a great advantage in applying and I want to use it however it's most effective.
My two top choice schools are Northwestern and Columbia, and I'm not sure yet which I'd rather attend. But Northwestern I have a significantly better chance of getting into if I apply ED, while Columbia I'm not sure either way.
My stats are something like this:
Decent classes, 7 APs taken, all 5s and As in the 3 I have taken so far.
Decent essays imo, I did them with an advisor.
ACT score 35
GPA (unweighted): a little less than 3.9
Mid extracurriculars: one season of track, stage crew on one production, some student gov. Doing more clubs now but not putting them on because they haven't really started up yet
So my dilemma is if it is even possible for me to get into Columbia with this. I think Northwestern I may have a good shot at with ED, but without it I'm not sure. I only want to do ED if I'm sure I can't get into Columbia, because it's the only school that contests Northwestern for me. Could I get into Columbia with those stats, or should I full send Northwestern?
Also interested on any comparisons between campus cultures. Thank you :)
Keeping this very plain and general. Currently a UIUC sophomore student in Industrial Engineering and thinking of transferring to Northwestern. Anything that I should know about campus life or anything else in general that would be important to know coming from U of I? I’m not from Chicago, so being close to home isn’t a factor… Thanks!
Does anyone know whether it is possible to join concert band in the winter quarter? I'm thinking of joining but do not have my instrument with me right now, but am hoping to bring it when I return home for winter break. Would you suggest getting my instrument tuned beforehand since I haven't played it in a couple years?
Hey everyone! I'm looking to get a professional headshot taken, and I was wondering if anyone here knows of any resources or photographers on campus that could help with this.
If there’s a service provided by the university or any student photographers who do high-quality work, please let me know! I'm looking for something reasonably priced (or free would be amazing!). Thanks in advance for any recommendations!
Hi. So Im an international looking for financial aid applying for ED. I only got one teacher recommendation letter from my maths teacher, who acknowledges me as one of his favourite students. In a highly competitive school like northwestern, are my chances of acceptance gone because of this?
I got a 78% on my math 220-2 midterm and I don’t know if I should drop the class and take it again winter quarter. I am aiming for an A- which would mean I need at least a 90% on the next midterm and the final, but I heard from the professor that the material gets exponentially harder. However, I also did not spend too much time studying for this midterm since I was more focused on chem but a lot of the mistakes were arithmetic and dumb errors, so my professor said to just check over my work which I can’t do due to the time crunch. The deadline’s coming up and I don’t know what to do. If anyone’s taken it before, I’d appreciate any advice 🙏
My dorm room gets boiling hot when the heat turns on if the outside temp drops below 60. It's been so much cooler and comfortable today and yesterday since it's been warm out and the heat turned off.
sorry if i sound spoiled lol
Anyone know who was representing Dunkin' outside of Tech on Monday the 14th? I've been trying to reach out to them but have no idea who they are.
These brand ambassadors were handing out Dunkin' gift cards on door hangers, and one of them told me they were there to study college student engagement, so they're not Dunkin' staff or anything like that (probably part of some org dedicated to engagement case studies). Lmk if you got leads; thanks!
Hey yall,
Look I'm not a NW student, just a college age guy from DC living nearby who can't stand going through election day without some people to talk with about it. Are there any election day events around NW or evanston?
If I can't find an event, I'll be at the rocks north of Martin if anyone else wants to stress over the future of the country with me
i’m an international seeking a lot of aid so i’m scared that’s gna be a rly big defining factor in whether or not i get accepted😮💨😮💨
has everyone finished their essays??
So with the ED deadline honing in I wanted to ask the following question:
“Do you regret paying full tuition for a Northwestern undergraduate degree?” So I’m a student at a french school in Europe, and going to the US seems like a great experience. But even though my parents can afford it I don’t know if paying more than 80k a year is worth it when I can get my undergrad degree for less than that. On the other hand I would love to have this experience, and I know that if I don’t apply ED I probably won’t get accepted, but if I do I no longer have the option. For other international students who don’t qualify for financial aid, what are some ways to reduce the fees or to pay for them?
Thank you for your advice
Hello everyone!
I am going to graduate in December with my bachelors and I am currently applying to jobs at universities in the Chicagoland area. I am mostly applying to admin assistant, program assistant and assistant coordinator jobs as they best fit with my background experience.
I am not super familiar with the hiring process of private universities. With public universities in Illinois, the civil service system dictates a lot of timelines and all positions have a closing date with interviews not starting until then. But most of Northwestern's positions say "open until filled" and I can't get a good idea of the hiring process timeline.
If anyone could explain Northwestern's hiring process timeline for me, that would be wonderful. Thank you :)
I know Feinberg was looking into the “We Will” Campaign many years ago (hit their initial goal in 2018) to go tuition-free.
Does anyone who is currently at Feinberg or close to it know any updates on this? Planning to apply for NUPSP and am curious to see if this is ever a possibility of this happening over time. Thank you!
Looking to save my GPA a littler more…are any of these classes easier/better than 320-1:
STAT 383-0, MATH 310-1, MATH 311-1, MATH 314-0, MATH 385-0, ELEC_ENG 302-0, IEMS 302-0
I don’t know what to put here!
I was in the mood for some classic collegiate autumnal foliage, so I decided to take my dog on a walk around campus. I was shocked how few students I saw on an October Monday from around noon to 1pm. And I saw basically zero people hanging out, socializing, having fun, etc. Very few people even talking to each other. It was a beautiful day out. What gives? Was I just in the wrong part of campus? Wrong time to be there? It was super quiet and low energy. [Note: I am not a student or alum, so I don’t know the campus well.] Would love any insight into how I missed everyone.
I'm applying Early Decision here because I feel it's the right fit. I’m a very creative person who loves the arts scene at NU—whether it's theater, drama, improv, or visual arts—but I’m also interested in starting a career in investment banking, and I know the economics program is excellent. When I toured the campus, the tour guides did a good job and were pretty different from me personally but had very similar values, and I figured that I would find more people with similar interests and values if I got in. I'd love to know more about the kind of people who thrive here and what the overall vibe is like.
Took 111 and 211 in fall. Between 212, 213, and 214, is it advisable to take any two at once? I want to get to breadth classes as fast as possible is all.
Where are y’all’s go-to spots for cheap lunch on or near the Evanston campus? I’m defining “cheap” as 10 bucks or under for a meal, but I’d love to hear anywhere you go when you need lunch on campus but don’t wanna spend a ton of money. Thanks!
I have a couple of classes I have to complete after my Senior spring. Does anyone know if you get financial aid still for that summer quarter after senior year? Will I be able to walk with my class in the Spring still? Thanks for the help!
i live south
hey gang! i'm j looking for some advice on how much sat is important in applying. ive seen nu's test optional and i've seen people get in with "lower" sat scores and i'm wondering if i should go test optional because i lowkey bombed my sat with a 1410. i retook it but i think scores are coming out after ed due date so i'm seeing if anyone has any opinions on whether i should submit or not. thanks sm!
note: yes ik it'll probably depend on ecs, but saying that i'm moderately good in grades/ecs i'm wondering the impact of sat (gosh darn this standardized test)
(i also got a 31 on act if that changes anything)
thank u sm guys!
Hi, I’m applying ED to NU and I’m just wondering if I should submit a resume? I feel like my ecs are pretty fleshed out in my activities list. But I read that a resume lets you go really into depth for AOs to see. Just wondering if any of you guys have any experience with submitting a resume or your thoughts about it. Thanks!
I'm a senior that is planning on ED'ing to Northwestern and I know the economics major is one of the best here but I am unsure if NU's name will help me in terms of PE recruiting. Additionally, how is campus culture? Are sports and parties pretty big or is everyone mostly grinding on schoolwork and internships? Also, do prospective finance ppl find opportunities after graduating or is it harder to for them?
Any advice or opinion on Northwestern as a whole will be appreciated, thank you!
I'm potentially coming to NU next August/September (maybe into October) as a visiting PhD student. Wondering if anyone had any info on accommodation for this. Safe, and near to campus.
I get a decent amount of funding; they don't really set a limit as long as it's reasonable, i.e. they'll fund whatever it costs so long as it's not the Ritz or something. However, they don't fund students to stay in Air BnBs, and I'm unsure how else to find accommodation for 6ish weeks that isn't a hotel. They would fund a hotel, but I've previously stayed in a hotel for 9 weeks, and I'd rather have a studio or one bed apartment.
I'm still in the early stages of planning; I just need an okay from the staff who will be my supervisors while I'm there. They have a very close relationship with my own research group so this shouldn't be an issue. I will ask them once we hear back, but thought might be useful to ask here in the meantime.
Thanks!
Basically the title. I'm considering ED here as an international Indian student, and while my academic goals and extracurricular interests are more than taken care of here, I would like to know how my social scene would likely be.
A sense of community and a link to my culture are important criteria for me, and I would really like to know whether both could be provided at Northwestern.
I have never visited campus, and webinars are not the best way of getting a sense of things, so would like some firsthand knowledge from students here before locking it in as my ED school. Thank you!
Keep hearing that clubs are very competitive to get in. Which clubs are these and why do they have a maximum number of spots? How often can people apply if they don't get in the first time they try and what is the criteria based on to get in? Most clubs at other campuses seem to have no maximum numbers. Is it easy for students to start new clubs?
applying to transfer to NU and was wondering what other people’s experiences as a transfer student at NU were like. Was making friends easy? Etc
I’m a rising senior applying to northwestern and I have some concerns. First, what is the social scene like there? I went down a rabbit hole last night and some people were saying students at Northwestern were rude and very cliquey, making it difficult to find friends there. Just wanted your guys’ thoughts on this.
