Assume best intent. Don't be mean to other Redditors. Don't harass or dox people. Be courteous, kind and interpret statements charitably.
Also, and I can't believe I have to say this, but anti-mask/COVID conspiracy, QAnon, and bigoted stuff is also a no-go on this sub and falls under this rule. Please take that elsewhere.
Hookup threads should go in a different sub. There used to be MN/UMN specific ones, but they died. Create one and we'll put it here.
Are you an incoming freshman or a transfer student with questions about where you should live, what's around campus, or other stuff you want to figure out before you arrive? Instead of making a new post, please ask these questions in the incoming student megathread (when there is a megathread).
Please don't post Amazon referral links here. People spam every college subreddit with these posts trying to get a couple of free months of Prime.

Our first meeting (Sip + Study) is Friday, Feb. 7th from 4-6:30PM! We'll DIY some boba then study together B) Importantly, we'll be doing a short info session on our upcoming mutual aid drop-off.
Being studious together can be easier than being studious alone--but sometimes it's hard to do that, especially as full time workers, familial caregivers, students without reliable transportation, etc. It can also be difficult to hold space for processing/acting on systemic issues with both grades and personal circumstances to manage. The board members (freshman-super senior) hope this club helps with some of those things !!
The club is called Pre-Health Advocacy and Support Exchange, but we truly welcome all majors, interests, and ages :o) Pop in any time.
Current students or freshman applicants for Fall 2025: Did anyone get admitted to CBS (or other first choice college) after first being admitted to CLA (or your 2nd choice college)? If so, what was the timeframe? How soon after your first admittance notification did you hear about the second one and was it before the RD decision date (March 31, I believe)? Thanks!

Hi, I’m a recent UMN graduate moving to Chicago for a new job and looking for a subleaser to take over my lease at Solhaus Apartments. The lease runs until August 15, 2025, and February rent is already paid, so you can move in anytime.
This is a private bedroom and bathroom within a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom unit. You’ll have your own space, and the current roommate is a friendly and quiet female with a regular, healthy lifestyle.

I’m 21 but I’m planning to go with a friend who doesn’t drink but is under 21. I was wondering if they check ideas or care at all even if you aren’t planning on drinking.
This exact post is also being posted in r/Purdue I just want to get opinions from both sides
Hello, graduating high school senior this year that is going for Mechanical Engineering. Although I'm still waiting to hear back from some colleges, I have my current choices narrowed down to Purdue and Minnesota.
I am an extrovert and love big cities but unfortunately Purdue doesn't have that advantage. The advantage of Purdue is the "recognition" side of it and I might be wrong but I am under the impression that there are more specific opportunities at Purdue that aren't at Minnesota (internships, co-ops, and "the name.") I got accepted to Purdue Honors and I would assume I can get into Minnesota Honors. With scholarships the costs are comparable. I have visited both and like both campuses a lot.
I also have heard many people say "you can get what you want at any school it just depends if you want to put in the effort" meaning that I could get similar opportunities at Minnesota as I could Purdue.
My question is, would the advantages of going to the big city be worth the sacrifice of the name and opportunity aspects of Purdue?
For Minnesota students, is there a lot of co-op opportunities, internships, and engineering clubs that lead to cool job opportunities in the future?
Just wondering if anyone else got a new tab in MyU that says research?
A general time frame would be great!
Hi does anyone here commute or have any opinions on commuting? Im considering commuting next year to save money. Any advice or thoughts appreciated! Im currently in super block, but my house is about 20 minutes away.
Hi, I'm going to be a student next year and I have no idea which building to dorm in. I'm planning to go into mechanical or industrial engineering. Ideally I'd like a building that:
-isn't too expensive
-is low key, no parties
-close to, or an easy way to get to my main buildings
Thank you so much in advance for any replies
I am intl student from indonesia (indian citizen, call me whatever, barely lived in india). I applied to umntc cs and got into it as soon as I applied (10 days after I applied). Fishy, but i got it confirmed. Nonetheless, my total cost would be ~250k usd. Is it worth that much for a intl student? I need advice.
Hello, I’m applying as a transfer student to the Carlson school of management. I have a 4.0 from college a 3.0 from high school. I’ve participated in a lot of events and got a letter of recommendation from somebody who used to be on the board of regents. My problem, lies with the fact that I haven’t finished Accounting prerequisite class as it’s not offered at my school. What do I do? This is my dream school and if I’m not accepted sophomore year, I will have to do at least an extra semester. will my applications still be taken into consideration or should I just give up?
Hey, you guys. I got diagnosed with ADHD a few weeks back and omg a lot of it now makes sense. My morning unproductive window, feeling like I'm unable to absorb what I'm reading, weird social relationships.
But it does impact my productivity at times. Should I take meds? I feel like coming back after taking meds would be not nice. I'm already taking Lexapro 5 mg for my anxiety. I'm in therapy right now. My grades are good but winter has been particularly challenging. I haven't disclosed this to my parents because I don't wanna trouble them.
This little shit scared the ever living crap out of me. I was washing my hands and it jumped out from the hole in the sink 💀 It’s so much bigger than it looks here
Guys so I might have decided too late that I wanna take Chinese (for fun). The thing is: I’m worried to add the class rn and already be way behind cause it started two weeks ago. What u guys think? Thx!!!
When do ea 2 decisions release and has anyone ea 2 heard back yet??
Hi all, I transferred here last semester and was a commuter but recently subleased in an apartment in dinky town. Their parking garage is full and I’m looking for places to park that aren’t on the street or in one of the universities parking garage because those are expensive when you pay day by day. Are there any places that I could get a contract with or kinda “sublease” a parking spot from ?
Any suggestions are appreciated!
Thx
Here’s my situation. I’m a community college student looking to transfer into UoM but my cumulative GPA is fucking terrible (2.2) so I know my chances are slim to none. However I’ve been stepping it up lately, and my GPA the last 2 semesters is 3.6 and it’s gonna go up. I also have mostly As in my major-related classes. I’m interested in the International Business co-major which is why I want to go to this school. Well, Carlson’s GPA prerequisite is a 3.0 so I can forget about trying to get directly in. My question is, would I be able to get into CLA and complete a minor with good grades, and then hopefully transfer into Carlson? Another course of action I’m considering is completing my other co-major at UMD and transferring into the Twin Cities campus to complete my International Business co-major. Are any of these options a good way to get in, or is the damage already done with my historically horrendous grades? I’ll also add that I have a certificate from the MN DoE for Japanese Bilingualism which I believe is relevant to the International Business career path I’m interested in.
I have a lil pile of rentals up in Duluth. My son will be coming down to the TC campus CSE (2 years PSEO @ UMD, so, 3rd yr of UMN but 1st year of TC campus). He's worked for me with prop mgmt/maint up here for the last couple years and I'm looking real hard at snatching this thing up and making it glorious.
Anyone here lived there before/have some inside scoop on it?
I have an internship over the summer and I am looking for a sublet. I am a male and my budget is around ~$800 dollars but if push comes to shove I am willing to go higher. I will need the sublet from June 1st to ~August 10th. DM me or comment if you have any.
I've gotten in for Graphic Design BFA, I just wanna know how the course is, How's the reputation?
Is the focus in this course on developing skills or theory
I just applied for transfer for my sophomore year as a CS Major. I just completed my first semester with a 4.0. However, I'm worried about my high school gpa as it was pretty low. I'm hoping for admission to at least CLA so I was wondering where of puts me.
Anyone know where I can buy student tickets this late? Really would like to go to the hockey game tonight and I’m looking for two tickets if possible.
My parking pass allows me to charge anywhere after 4:30 and I stay on campus until 10 pm usually.
My favorite place might be lot 86 in west bank. Garages are very tight for my car, and the Washington street ramp requires me to drive the wrong way to back in park. The Oak street ramp is also extremely tight and has way too many concrete barriers.
I was got into umn twin cities a few days ago, and saw that I got into CSOM, which was my first choice but when applying I misunderstood which college would be best for me. I want to be an actuary and after researching the different colleges CSE seems like it is absolutely the college I should be in if I want to be an actuary. Can I transfer into CSE from CSOM before my freshman year, and if so, how? I've tried their website but it really hasn't been much help.
Anyone know where I can get big cardboard boxes for free on campus?
I graduated this past year with a degree in finance. I never really liked my finance classes but I stuck it out. I am currently in an accounting role for my job postgrad and I really like it. From talking with people I feel like I am maybe more geared towards accounting than I realized. I have over 150 credits (I transferred in with some from PSEO so do they all need to be from the U to be eligible for CPA) so I find it appealing to potentially try to get my CPA. Looking at APAS it looks like I would just need to do a few more accounting classes. Anyone have any experience with this? Any recommendations on how I could do this? Is it even feasible? Do I need to reapply?
For all those in CBS, do you know if there is a link or something to apply to be an SGL for next year?
Hi I’m a junior in 2nd tri with a 2.664 gpa and I’m kinda struggling with some classes is there a way to get my gpa high and get in? Or do pseo?
I am currently doing a CSCI course, and there is a lab for me every Wednesday. I just had a deep talk with my TA because I have learned some programming before, and he is curious about what I have written, so we talked a lot about what am I doing, and if there's any other better solutions.
Anyways I am not gay or have some strange feelings... I am just kind of shy to say 'hey i like what you have done lets be friends.'. So I just want to know if there is any information online that I could research about what's my TA's name and info.
