Hookup threads should go in a different sub. There used to be MN/UMN specific ones, but they died. Create one and we'll put it here.

I’m an employee for the university on a high deductible health plan because I figured I wouldn’t be at the doctor’s all too much. I have payed over 300 out of each of my paychecks and I am still expected to pay the deductible, and for a Covid and strep test I have to pay 200 fucking dollars. Is there a way that I can get the university to pay it since I’m an employee and someone with Covid in the workplace is a public safety concern? Or a way to negotiate my bill down?
I’m currently taking CHEN 3005 with Satish Kumar, and I was wondering if anyone who has taken it before could tell me about the the grading curve. What was it like? Also, does anyone know what the passing grade usually is? Thanks in advance!
Has anyone taken this class before? I’m wondering how to study for the midterm. Every concept just seems so straight forward I’m not getting what needs to be done to prepare myself. He claims the average grade on it in previous semesters is usually 70%. This just seems absurd considering how straight forward all the vocab and content is. I have been reviewing slides/notes/videos.
I'm an international student interested in chemical engineering, however my university agent says that it would be easier for me to apply for chemistry and then change my major to chemical engineering. I have 3.62 unweighted gpa, 3.80 weighted, 1440 sat, and I'm taking another one in november. I got 5s in AP calc ab and AP micro, 4s in AP Chem and AP ES. My ECs are OKAYish but I do lack competitions related to chemistry.
I don’t want my ticket to go to waste, pm me
I'm gathering insights on improving parking experiences for students on campus. Your feedback will help me identify effective solutions to make parking easier and more convenient. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts!
HMedia Chinese (5041) Current or Past students? Could someone be bothered please provide some course info?
Hi, basically I'm pretty desperate. Couldn't find anyone in Media Chinese (5041). Thought I would today like an idiot, but obviously not the case. A third of the semester passed and my hail mary idea was to do lot of the material done thus far shortly to convince the professor I could be suitable for the class.
The prof is serious so they wouldn't just let me hop in especially because I've not completed the 4000 level chinese courses as is expected of someone to enter.
Long story short I came to this idea that this is my best bet rather than contacting the prof who I'm just too worried would be left with too bad of a first impression unless I attempt to knock her socks off surprisingly prepared. Done it before with university approvals(they usually approve if prof will) but this time's different because I didn't ask the prof.
Without contacting her I cannot do that without a student and I couldn't find one so I'm asking anyone for anyone in the course or who's been through if they could send me the work expected from canvas. What are the characters I have to know how to write, what are the readings ill need, etc. If anyone could please provide any assistance that would be very much appreciated.
There was a bunch of law enforcement that looked quite official, and they were wanding people in the building. I imagine someone important must have been visiting and I am just looking for some more details!
Hey guys! So I am hoping to transfer in this spring semester as I got denied as a senior. I'm doing CC right now and did it my senior year of high school and worked my ass off, I have fully completed 19 college credits and am completing a total of 32 right now because I read you need 26 to be a transfer but I was not a good high school student and they needed my high school transcript so now I'm worried that's gonna affect my chances of getting in again. Does anyone know why they need the high school transcript if I'm already completing more than 26 credits?
i almost had a breakdown because of hunger and uncomfortableness waiting for my 6pm class yesterday
How do the comstock guest passes work? Am I right In assuming there even are guest passes? How many do I get and how would I use them if I wanted a friend to come over to eat with me?
Hi! This is a stupid question but I'm feeling anxious lol. I'm going to the football game with my mom tomorrow so I won't be in the student section, and the theme is stripe the bank. I'm sitting in a maroon section, but I was thinking of wearing my gopheralls because I haven't worn them much at all. Is it weird if I wear them for this theme, or it it weird because I'm not sitting in the student section? I'm not sure and don't want to feel like I did something weird if everyone else isn't wearing them
I have an first round interview for a Medtronic Swe internship next week and I was just wondering if anyone had any insight on the interview process or what kind of questions I might expect etc.

I got a bit unlucky this year. My housing for this semester fell through. I’m currently living with family but cannot stay for much longer. I do have a job and I make roughly $800 every 2 weeks. Please help, anything helps. Resources? someone I could talk to? I’m devastated, and I really want college to work for me.
Please I’m begging, what is the best way to prepare for Moen’s exam we have a midterm coming up and I just don’t know what type of questions to expect. I’m not sure if it is similar to the labs? If anyone knows what types of questions he asked in previous semesters or what i need to focus on it will be extremely helpful.

Hi, I am wanting to participate in a Halloween-related event on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus and am looking for advice on opportunities to do so. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Hi, I’m a bit confused about something and was wondering if someone could help me out.
I’m currently in my first year at a community college in Minnesota, about an hour away from the University of Minnesota. I want to transfer next year, but I’m confused about the process. I plan to major in computer science, but there are still some classes I need before I can be admitted to the major.
The class I’m missing is Calc 1, and right now, the only math classes I’ve taken are Elementary Algebra and Statistics. Next semester, I still need to take College Algebra and Pre-Calculus before I can enroll in Calc 1. Ideally, I was planning to take College Algebra during the summer at my community college, then Pre-Calc in my first semester at U of M, and Calc 1 in my second semester.
I’ve seen that I can apply and get accepted to the university, but not directly into my major. What does that mean exactly? Do you think I could still apply and start attending next year?
im an accounting major i need a few more credits for my CPA eligibility. i need recommendations for easy classes if you guys know any (excluding ba 1011, 2021, 1021) to fulfill 150 credits. thank you
Hiiiii!! I need people to fill out this form for one of my classes :) takes less than 10 mins I promise!!
anyone take her online? how was her exams and grading?
I hears there’s a TT group here but couldn’t find anything about it. I was looking for some people to play/practice regularly. I’m not a great player but love it. Feel free to dm me or comment here.
So a friend of mine in hs wants to come look around campus and wants me to show him around…. The thing is though I don’t really know that many cool places around campus to show him lol, I mainly keep to myself around here and don’t want his visit to be so lame. Anyone know any cool places or halls I can show him around? He didn’t wanna do the ‘lame’ tours and knows me here so I want him to be able to experience the cooler things they don’t show you on the tours. Like cool engineering labs or little secret spots you’d know of. Thanks in advance 🙏
Hello everyone!
I’m looking for a reliable place near campus to get my laptop display replaced. Does anyone have recommendations for repair shops that offer good service?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Hey all, just wondering if any of you know how bad it would be to switch to Carlson. I am kind of fed up with the stress of being in CSE. Would it be a bad idea to do that now? Should I wait till next semester? If i change now how bad would it be for me? Thanks all!
Hello! I'm a new student here at UMN, and I wanted to let you all know about a student organization that I am trying to form!
Are you interested in World War II or historical research? Are you looking for a flexible volunteering opportunity? Do you want more research opportunities to add to your resume? Or do you want to give back to your community?
If any of those questions made you answer "yes," then maybe you could help me form a new student organization! For those of you who don't know, the Normandy American cemetery in northern France houses over nine thousand World War II soldiers killed in the line of duty. However, the cemetery administration only has the stories of around six hundred of them, and thousands of soldiers buried there are at risk of their stories disappearing forever (due to the loss of documents and the passing of loved ones).
Through a different organization in High School, I got the amazing opportunity to write a biography for one of these soldiers, and I want to keep that momentum going so no veteran's story is lost to time.
The general concept of the group is simple: During the school year, members would choose a soldier buried in the cemetery to research (the more obscure, the better). Whenever you have spare time, you could research the soldier's service, personal life, etc and turn that into a biography. When you are done with the biography, it would get submitted to the Cemetery for their archives.
To recap, the group would be: -Flexible: Research would be done on your own time and at your own pace, with only occasional group meetings and no strict time constraints -Resume-bettering: Having both a volunteer organization and a research organization on a resume could help you gain internships and other opportunities -Rewarding: Speaking from experience, this kind of work is incredibly gratifying.
If you are interested or have more questions, feel free to reach out at studentsofnormandy@gmail.com! :)
Also, I am looking for both officers and regular members for the UMN chapter of the organization (as we would be working with some other students at other schools as well)
