Going trout fishing and all I have left is this for a leader. Is it too heavy or should I be all good? I’m fishing for small trout won’t get any bigger than a pound.
I'll be there in late June hanging a few days while my brother has a work conference. Was thinking of bringing a rod and doing some hiking/fishing as I know you don't need a license there. Not sure what to look for though and if I should just find a blue line on a map around a hiking trail and go for it.
I know there is a fly shop in Seoul that I'm going to stop in when my flight arrives, but other than that it's pretty hard to find any information online.
In town for a few days and trying to squeeze in some fly fishing in between taking care of two toddlers. Did some wading off Heckshore and caught a couple of good size fish on a black clouser but it's too hard to get to with time constraints.
Have been up before dawn the last few days trying to fish the surf but haven't had any luck despite seeing some fish in the surf. Any tips or tricks? Or am I wasting my time?
I've been trying to cast out past the waves but that's hard. Have also fished the surf parallel to the sand. Where in the hell should I be casting? Have thrown a bunch of different clouser colors and some similar stuff to no avail. Have thrown it with a split shot and without since I have floating line.
Any advice is massively appreciated.
All, I think my 5wt is done and need a new one. Im currently using SA mastery which is ok . Thing I do t like is the color, it’s moss and I can’t see it very well in my tea color waters. I’m looking for a brighter color and a good welded loop as I switch leaders a lot when I fish different styles.
The airflo ones seem nice as I use their poly leaders for streamers, but I read the pvc doesn’t float as well?
Let me know and hopefully this will help others
Was doing some top water creek fishing with a quick, single feather fly I had tied up to test with. After fishing the spot I was at for a little bit I ended up casting on the other side of a log in the water and originally thought I got a large creek chub. As you can see it was not a chub.
I was using barbless hooks anyway as to not hurt smaller fish and it swam off fine after 5 minutes of trying to wrangle him (he was infact, not having it).
Hi, I want to make a test for myself of few brands of hooks and I would like to ask for ideas how would you do it (you can destroy hooks in the process) or what DIY method would you use, i have access to tools and powertools? Thanks for help.
Hello, I’m going fishing with my buddy in a few days but we have to do it in the morning because of previous commitments. What are some patterns that can be fished considering that the water is still pretty cold and that we will probably start fishing after sunrise(we are not early birds tbh)? Thank you!
Hello everyone,
Last year I started to get into fly fishing and immediately fell in love. The extent of my experience is tossing around dry flies in small streams / creeks for small brook trout. This year I decided to get into fishing for other species such as pike, steelies and other fish with an 8 wt. Currently my setup right now is an 8 wt with sink tip fly line.
I was wondering if I can use just straight mono then connect some fluoro at the end rather than buying a pre made leader? I am thinking of doing around 3 feet of 15Ib mono connected to some 6Ib fluoro (around a foot) or something of that array.
TIA

Today I was walking the beach in SWFL with my 8wt sight fishing for snook. Tarpon are also starting to migrate so I am scanning from shoreline to horizon and about 40yds in front of me this full sized adult manta ray breaches at least 10ft in the air and comes crashing through the surface like a Volkswagen head on. I got the front full wingspan view. It was at least 6ft wide and its leap was effortless, the hang-time was breath taking and the splash was massive. It captured the power, grace and mass of these great animals.
I have seen many mantas before but usually way off in the distance or half the size. Today’s manta breach is one of the coolest things I have seen while fishing. It is in the top 2-3 things at least. What are the coolest things you have seen?
Happy Friday y’all! I’m kinda new to fly fishing, I don’t tie my own flies yet, and I spend most of the little time I get to fish in urban ponds and canals fishing for largemouth bass, sunfish, and carp.
Some of my favorite flies are a size 12 unweighted wooly bugger for bass and bigger sunfish, a size 16 beadhead scud for small sunfish, and various terrestrial dry flies for grass carp. All of which I buy from the “White River Fly Shop” inside the local Bass Pro. It’s the only “fly shop” near me, I’d have to drive across town to get to a real fly shop.
The flies definitely catch fish… my problem is, they seem to unravel pretty quickly. After one fish, they start to look a bit ugly. After 2 or 3 fish, they’re basically toast. Sometimes, they start to unravel just from the casting/retrieving.
So… is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? Is there a place online where I can buy more durable flies?
Hey, guys. Looking for some help from anyone familiar with North Carolina trout fishing. Some probably saw my post yesterday about taking my son fly fishing on the Davidson and how much he loved it. It’s something he wants to get into more and that makes me very happy. I grew up and lived in WV for over 30 years so I had incredible fly/trout fishing all around me. Since I’ve lived in NC, my fishing has been all but nonexistent. I lived in Winston for a few years and fished the Mitchell a few times, but never really cared for it much. While the Davidson will continue to get occasional trips made to it, that’s just too far for as often as I’d like to get him on the water. I’m looking for any guidance on places closer to Charlotte. I’ve already been told a little about North Mills River and Wilson Creek and they both sound like solid options. Are there any that have a decent wild population? Really appreciate the help!
I mainly fish for brown trout but salmon can be found here, I’m mostly looking for tips of what’s best for the brownies up here as I think it may vary quite a bit from the states which is what I mainly see on here.
Hey all, wondering whether anyone had any opinions on this rod. I know it’s marketed as more of a dry fly rod but would it handle a light dry dropper setup? Specifically the 8’4” 4#
Thanks
Was pulling the spool off to wipe everything down and lost grip, it hit the floor and broke…. Caught my first fish tho! Lol 🙃
First steelhead on the fly for me! 10llb hatchery hen caught in the Portland area!
