Feedback for website of a new marlin fishing lodge

Hey guys, I am building a website for my uncle's new fishing lodge in Brazil: www.nervousmarlin.com

He is just starting this new business and I want to help him get his first customers. I want to make a beautiful website for him and would love to get your feedback on it.

I am discovering the world of marlin fishing as I build this, so maybe I am missing important info that anglers are looking for.

Would love it if you could take 2 minutes to give me some feedback!

Thanks!

Bisbee's Tournaments coming in October

Bisbee's billfish and gamefish tournaments in Cabo San Lucas are coming up in October:

Bisbee's Los Cabos Offshore, Oct 14-19

Bisbee's Black & Blue, Oct 21-26

If you're interested in competing, there's a 35' Blackfin Combi available for either charter or as contribution to a team. That is, you can charter the boat and crew for your team or you can add the boat's owner to your team and he will contribute use of the boat and crew.

See the CaboCuranderoCharters website for more information.

Key West Charters

I found out Allegiant has round trip tickets to Key west for less than $100. Only problem is housing.

I'm considering a trip to the keys this winter - anyone know what is biting in the winter?

That, I guess I can find online. What I really want to know is if you can recommend any good offshore charters - preferably for sportfishing: Wahoo, Mahi, Tuna, maybe grouper.

Also, I know I can bring back frozen fish on the plan - done it before - but has anyone shipped frozen fish back if they caught a lot? I can always get a bigger carry on for the trip home!

Looking for the sawce?

Wondering if anyone can provide sources for leading tuna brands on the east coast of united states? Where are they caught, what species, etc. Any and all info is appreciated.

Also, if anyone can detail differences in canning methods and what parts are involved in said product, aka solid white albacore, chunk light, whether it be in water or oil.

If you think there's a subreddit that's better suited to answer my questions I'd be happy if you could entertain me with proper direction.

Thanks in advance.

Yellowfin charter recommendations in / around OBX?

Hi all,

My friends and I are thinking of taking an offshore trip to target yellowfin (and Mahi, Wahoo, etc), and want to leave from Hatteras, Oregon Inlet, or somewhere around there.

Does anyone have a captain you have used and would recommend? Also, what's the best time of year?

Sea Isle City, NJ Charter?

Hello - headed out for a family trip in a week to Sea Isle City. Last minute had an idea to go fishing. Any recommendations? Not sure what is worth going after late August. Appreciate any recommendations!

Finding charters.

Hi! We are going to Huatulco, MX in Feb. I’d like to surprise my hubby with a charter to hopefully catch some fish. Do you have any suggestions on where to look for legit charters? We’ve done it thru the hotel in Cabo and the DR, but I’d like to make it kind of special for his 50th bday! Thanks so much!

Looking for input on smaller center consoles

I’m trying to decide between a few different entry level boats and I’m curious if anyone here would like to share first hand experience. This will be my first offshore boat, a big upgrade from the 17’ hulls I’m used to.

Key West 244 cc (2018) I like this one, especially how light it is but I’m not a big fan of the bilge access and how the aft seat has to be removed just to check on your bilge

Tidewater 253 cc (2020) This is my favorite of the 3, i like the storage and large cockpit, but I’m concerned I’m at the limit of what my truck can tow ( rated for 7200)

Clearwater 2300 (2020) I like the layout but the bilge access is even worse than the key west.

I understand none of these are top of the line boats, unfortunately that’s just not in the budget.. but i want something i can safely rely on to get to the Bahamas and back. This will primarily be a fishing boat and i would like something that can handle itself in a little bit of chop. Any first hand experience/criticism/praise for would be much appreciated.

Beginner rod and reel combo

Hi all, looking to get a setup for my 21 Parker but something i could potentially upgrade from. I have a 5 conceivable rod slots, 2 side trackers, to low lines and a green a center rod. Whats a good mid level combo? I’m thinking 30 international or 50 squall. I’d like to stay under 600 a combo lined.

Hey folks I'm writing up my dreams right now. I need a minimum size engine for a boat greater than or equal to 20ft. Any suggestions?

My life goal is to chase world record size sportfish (tuna, marlin, wahoo etc.).

I know a 20ft boat wont get me there safely unless the conditions are all aligned. Yes, my life is worth more than a fish. I caught one tuna a few years back, and haven't stepped foot on a boat since (I lost the connection to the captain).

I will get back out on the open water in the future, but while writing up the 10YP i need specifics. Ideally i would run out of new jersey, since these are the only waters i read about.

What would be the minimum size engine to get me started?

I was reading about the Virginia record tuna that was caught off of North Carolina. Made me wonder, can you weigh in a fish wherever you want?

Have all the gear and the boat, but don’t know how to fish. Help me.

How do I begin with planning a trip? I would be leaving out of Oregon inlet NC in a 24 ft cobia with a single 300. How do I find spots to drop lines (I have charts and sonar) and what do I use to catch ANYTHING. Is it live bait free running? or trolling? or jigging? Please help and support by telling me what baits I need as I am already equipped with suitable rods and reels. I appreciate any comments in advance. Thanks

Bluefin recipes?

I was given an ice chest full of bluefin that was caught by a client of mine and am looking for good recipes and figured you guys must have figured some out! I'm a pretty decent cook but am usually a steak (beef) guy. I love fish but haven't cooked much of it. I feel it was a really generous gift and I want to get the most out of it I can.

Just for some info: The fish was caught off the Southern California coast within the last few days and processed by the company they went out fishing with. It was all cut into various steaks and collars and vacuum sealed. It looks very professionally done and the fish looks beautiful. Some of the cuts have a "sushi" sticker on them. The guy who gave them to me said it can all be eaten raw, but those are the cuts that are supposed to be best for sushi. He had it all in his deep freeze and I kept it on ice and got it all in my freezer within about 20 minutes.

I would like to have some of it raw if that is a safe thing to do but want to cook some of it too and try out some different preparations. Any recipes, advice, or trusted resources you can point me to?

Trolling

Fellow Skips - have been trying some sport trolling (2-3 lines at varying line lengths along the spread) but have been having trouble with the line twisting & becoming nigh impossible to reel up.

Speed is only 3-5 mph, and lures are on leaders.

Any ideas or suggestions on what I’m doing wrong to see the lines spin so much that they lead to this?

What Boat Would You Buy?

This question is not about specifically which boat would y’all would get, it’s more about what approach would you take based on my wants/needs:

I want something that can get me to the Gulf Stream more often than not. I live about 2 hours from the NC coast and want to be able to make a weekend trip in advance and know weather will be appropriate for my set up more often than not. I’ve owned a Carolina Skiff 218 DLV for 3 years now, and it’s been an amazing boat, but I want to go after pelagic species consistently and really turn things up a notch. I love this stuff.

I can swing a payment of about $800/mo responsibly (still have money for maintenance, fuel, etc. without eating into my current lifestyle or savings schedule) and I have some cash to put down, so I’m thinking my budget is up to $100k but less would be great!

Which path would y’all take?

  1. The USED path - buy something older with some wear and tear but maybe bigger and more well equipped. I can definitely afford twin engines in this scenario which I really would prefer for this type of fishing. I pasted a boat for sale that I like below:

https://www.facebook.com/share/XxbZ3dM4SZuhTxsb/?mibextid=79PoIi

  1. The NEW path - buy something brand new with a warranty, maybe compromise on size. Probably has to be something like this SeaFox pasted below with a single engine. The amenities on board are super nice though and the boat seems plenty capable, though not quite as capable as the Grady above.

https://www.facebook.com/share/ie2W5AwG79qE1WC7/?mibextid=79PoIi

I am just torn on the best way to spend my money. There are so many boats out there in the new and used market. Please give me advice or share your personable experiences.

Thanks!

I'm going to try to work off shore

Good afternoon yall. I have long had a dream about working off shore as a fisherman. I am mid-thirties, and have decided to try.

I have no related experience whatsoever, although I have much life experience. Military, first responder, factory, dispatcher, farmhand, and many more. I am currently well-vested into a very lucrative field, but I have decided to pursue my dream, at least for a bit. Full time career, maybe an occasional thing, I don't know. I am going to try regardless of anything and everything else. If I crash and burn, I will keep trying. I currently travel a lot, but I have a break for 3 weeks mid-august. I am going to use this time to walk the docks in The Outer Banks, North Carolina in the mornings. I am going to ask anyone and everyone who will talk to me if I can be a deckhand, help out on the charter boat, anything. I will offer to work for free if I have to.

Would anyone be willing to offer any input? Suggestions? Burst my bubble? (I am still going to try regardless) Advice? Anything would be appreciated, since I haven't the slightest what I am getting into. Edit: Is this even the right sub? If not please point me in the right direction
