Not new to fishing just curious.
I mostly fly fish. But on occasion I enjoy taking a spinning rod to alpine lakes ans throwing spinners/spoons.
My whole life I have fished Ugly Stiks. They work, but I always question if there is something better. I am looking to add a new rod to the quiver and curious if anyone has a reccomendation. I'd like a multi piece one to make it easier to carry but it does not need to be a compact rod. A 2 piece is fine.
Don't really have a budget. Still in the curious exploration phase of shopping.
The water in the local creek is really really muddy today, but I was looking forward to fishing today the whole week. Is it possible to catch some trout? What lures would you use?
My catch from this past opening weekend up on the island. It’s been an annual trip for my dad and his buddies for over 40 years now and I’ve been lucky to join in on and off over the last 20 myself.
As required by state law, Galloway, who resides in Cub River east of Preston, released the monster fish back into Northern Idaho’s Clearwater River where he caught it in early March this year.
The moment the fish swam away, and because Galloway did not adhere to other requirements, his chance of being the new record-holder vanished.
It sounds like a fishy story, but it happened. For proof, Galloway brought home some photographs documenting the monster rainbow.
Sharing a story n pic of this monster i seen looking at pics of big trout
Hi all,
I’m very new to fishing so apologies if this is a dumb question. My current setup for trout fishing is an egg sinker -> bead -> swivel -> 12-36in leader -> hook with power bait or trout worm. I’ve caught at most 2 trout during an outing (2-4 hours) but I’m skunked more often than not.
I’m usually unsure about my leader length so I’m adjusting constantly. Is there an easier method than cutting the line and re-tying? Or should I just get better/faster at it.
I saw someone use a drop shot rig today with 3 hooks at different lengths. Should I give this a try instead?
Thank you!
Rainbow trout 55cm unfortunately could not weigh it :(
I’m on a two year drought of catching trout. Literally today two years ago is the last time I caught one. I go out this evening armed with everything. I started with wax worms and meal worms and holy hell I’m getting nibbles and my bait picked. I had a couple strikes but wasn’t reactive enough to set the hook and land it. Still having a blast with fishing action. Best action I’ve had with fish for a solid year.
Think this is gonna be positive? Guess again. Some jagoff and his wife and kids come to this spot. He’s a little down shore from me so no big deal. There’s space. He throws his line out and it lands with this huge splash. That right there killed all the action. Then his kids are screaming and running around. The one child is maybe 6 or so and playing with a hatchet. This kid is using the blade to chop rocks. Shards are flying and one hits me in the head and a few more hit my wife. We politely asked the child to not do that so close. They moved but still played unsupervised with the hatchet.
Another couple showed up and wedged themselves between me and the other folks with kids. Dude throws his line and crosses mine. I packed up and left. I was absolutely furious. It’s been two years and that’s the closest I’ve come to catching a trout. I’m really pissed off and really wish people weren’t so damn ignorant.
Dropped by my favorite fishing spot last night. Tried a handful of methods before I found the one that hit. Carolina rig, two white garlic scented berkley power eggs floating 12" off bottom with a size 8 hook.
Kind of ranting but I caught my first trout today. Was fun and all, however, I didn’t have a net so I placed it on the ground to be unhooked. I also used dry hands to unhook it and while unhooking it I noticed my fingers were accidentally in/on its gill area.
I feel really bad, I know the trout could wind up dying due to my ignorance :(
When I measured it, it was only about 12.5" but is only about 3" wide. Like a torpedo lol
Do you guys wash your hands in the water before your first cast? Kinda like The Gladiator when he rubs his hands in the dirt…lol
