Fly Tying Videos

  • "The Professor" - Györfi Zsolt (Youtube) - Györfi's patterns have been the best of the best that r/flytying has seen. Definitely check out his videos to see how he ties these amazingly detailed flies.

  • David Cammiss (Youtube) - He talks the beginner through how to create flies before moving on to intermediate level ties.

  • Davie McPhail (Youtube) – He describes in an easy method how to create a range of flies.

  • The Weekly Fly - This website allows you to search by fly name, fly tier or by the targeted species of fish.

  • Fly Tying: The Angler's Art - LeRoy Hyatt and Carolyn Sells describe how and why certain patterns attract different fish, tying techniques, the use of materials and presentation of flies.

Entry Level Kits?

I’ve got gift card and some cabelas reward points to use. Are any of the cheaper fly tying kits worth getting from Cabelas? I’d likely be doing more streamers for Striped Bass (inline weight and fly on a spinning real drifting the inlet) and jigs then the usual light weight flies as I don’t fly fish as much where I’m at now.

I already build fishing rods as a main hobby, so this is just an extension of that, hence the entry level / cheaper launch point.

Tight lines!

Pheasant is ready!

What should I tie with all these ring neck feathers? I now have a lifetime supply 🤩 Patterns that are non-pheasant tail focused would be appreciated.

Just Curious...

Wanted to ask the community. What fly pattern(s) get replenished in your box most often?

For me it's the traditional Elk Hair Caddis, in my home waters we cant keep the trout of of em and after 5 or so fish, the hair wing is practically annihilated!

Pheasant tail nymph

Hey all. Thought id challenge myself with the smallest fly I’ve ever tied to try to learn new skills. This nymph looks almost as ugly as me, but is definitely worth me trying on my river. Hook is a size 20 and this was a challenge for me and my inexperienced fingers. Still had fun, and definitely want feedback on whether the wire is mandatory on nymphs in super slow almost slack water.

Looking for recommendations on the best mid-price UV curing light. I am using Solarez Bone Dry thin and a Hard Type thicker resin that calls for a 6w curing light. Tired of the less expensive light I'm using now.

Griffin Odyssey for a first vise

Hi all, I am looking at getting into fly tying and someone local is selling a used Griffin Odyssey for $100 CAD. Would this be a good buy for a first vise? Is this a good price?
