Hello, I returning home from a long time overseas and on my list is Devon. I'm not fussed about being close to the water but would like a small cosy home in a nice village that is welcoming to newbies with a community.
I'm looking at Buckfastleigh, Silverton, Chudleigh Knighton and Hatherleigh.
Open to other suggestions.
Many thanks 😊
Looking to handmake some wreaths this year, does anyone know where in mid Devon (West of Exeter for a vague area) there's pine/fir in public access? Managed to find enough holly so far
My wife and I (from the US - Oregon) were in Bath as part of a tour of Britain in late August. We snagged an outside table at a bar in the early evening for a cocktail. As we were getting our drinks, a young couple came up and were clearly looking for a table. We had two extra seats where we were and offered them which they accepted. They were soon to be wed in Devon, but were in Bath for a special spa evening. Turns out they were getting married in the next month. We had the greatest conversation with them, and parted with hugs. We should have written their names down but didn’t. In any case, her name was Olivia and for the life of me, I want to say her fiancés name was Adam. Should you by chance know them, please let them know that Mike and Debbie wish them all the best and we’re sorry we were unable to get a card to them. We are a “geezer” couple, and not all young people are comfortable mixing it up with our generation. They were awesome! We all laughed and shared some background and stories - it was a delightful surprise and like them, we absolutely loved Bath!
This is story about discovering and conserving a unique Tudor Renaissance carved altar back, putting it back together and finding out where it came from. A wonderful find.
Written by Nicholas Riall who was called in to help with the identifying and research.

What jokes makes you laugh everytime you hear them?
It was bought 10 years ago after the previous owners that had owned the estate since the 1920's. Owner is selling up due to opposition from local groups about his ideas for the area.

Do you think there is a market for UKG events in Exeter ?
Beautiful Chulmleigh church in Mid Devon, a rare Norman crucifixion carving, medieval roof bosses and rood screen, quality later woodwork by Harry Hems… plus some ace stained glass. A true charm.
My latest article and gallery now online to enjoy, as you will: https://devonchurchland.co.uk/description/chulmleigh-church-of-st-mary-magdalene-description/
Sorry for yet another "what to do in Devon" post but we have a friend visiting from abroad this weekend and most of our usual things to do are for better weather or closed over winter. We tried the Christmas market at Exeter cathedral today and got drenched. It was less than fun. We did go inside the cathedral as well.
We are based in East Devon and happy to drive around an hour in any direction (so anything in the neighbouring counties too) and have a toddler and a dog, so a bonus if it's dog friendly. Any and all ideas considered!
Hello, we are likely going to be needing a new roof at some point in the near future. 3 bed semi detached cottage in East Devon. Has anyone had their roof done recently and, if so, how much was it and what was included? Cheers.
As we all know, Devon has some fairly diverse habitats - for example there is the English Riviera coastline, and then we have upland areas on Dartmoor, and some of Exmoor too, though most of Exmoor is in Somerset.
If we look at the Met Office averages, the weather station in Teignmouth receives the most sunshine in Devon, with 1737 annual hours of sunshine on average. Plymouth is close behind at 1732. North Wyke station near North Tawton receives the least sunshine at only 1494 hours annually. The weather station at Exeter Airport records around 1562 on average.
And then, there is rain. Exeter on average receives around 830mm of annual rainfall. Plymouth gets slightly more at around 1,040mm. And then you have Yarner Wood near Bovey Tracey which receives around 1,440mm of annual precipitation. Then Buckfastleigh receives around 1,500mm. Princetown is the wettest place in Devon and receives around 2,000mm of annual rainfall on average which is more than double what Exeter and Teignmouth receives. This also makes it one of the wettest places in the country, comparable to highland areas in Wales and Scotland.
What are your thoughts? Have you noticed any differences in climate throughout different places in Devon?
Looking for something crafty or adventerous to do ? We were going to do babacome model village glow but its unfortunately not open then.

Title. Im having to move to the town for a job position. I don’t know anyone there and have no family near there.
Any tips or things I should know?
I had a flight cancel last week because the fellow who pushes the propeller to start it called in. One time I complained that my window was missing glass so they made me sit with chicken crates.
I’d prefer to go to a brick’s and mortar shop rather than buying on-line. Thanks.
