Hi, I'd like to buy a tide and moon clock locally. I've searched and found thenorthcoast, which no longer seems to exist, and the cat and mouse, which seems to have the same product but out of stock. I'm looking at one from Wales at the moment, which I'll probably get (but would actually prefer one without the time clock), but just wanted to check here first just in case there's anyone doing the same? I'm thinking of visiting my parents in Penzance in September or October, but I don't want to impose on them (they only have a small flat) so I'm open to suggestions for cheap/good hotels/B&Bs anywhere in West Cornwall (I'll be driving so distance isn't a big issue, and I used to live there so I know my way around). Not bothered about sea views or anything like that. A quick search didn't turn up much for less than 150 GBP a night for two (looking to stay about 8 nights), so anything less would be a bonus (ideally less than 100 a night if possible).

I have decided to purchase a second home in one of the picturesque coastal Cornish towns. Living in central London is particularly enjoyable, however, I'd like to escape to the coast several times a year.

I have some funds left over from the returns of my investment portfolio in 2024. I have decided to somewhat diversify my investment protfolio and purchase a nice family home by the coast in Cornwall. I intended to use it in the spring and summer, then rent it out on Airbnb the rest of the year.

Any recommendations?

Looking for a quiet retirement an a possibly coastal village. Somewhere not too rough, so away from the larger towns. Probably away from the tourist areas but it seems everywhere is a tourist area when i travel down.

I love Cornwall. But, is it just me, or is it on the precipice of over development for the super rich from London? Noticed just this year that it's getting hard to find a beach or cove that doesn't have a new massive modern style mansion stuck on the cliff nearby. Personally, these buildings take away the charm to the place. I'm all for new developments of average and first time buyer size homes but these ones seem indulgent for a small amount.

Makes me think of the Omaze house in Fowey that went up for sale. Obviously, and amazing home and great clever architecture, but so at odds with the surrounding town. For those of us on the other side looking at it ... It feels quite ugly and removed from reality.

Normal yellow camera but there is some sort of grey unit there. Stupidly had my phone on my lap and is set to always on and could’ve sworn I saw a flash after passing (could’ve been lightning but seems unlikely). Never had a driving penalty issued against me so hoping I haven’t been done because of stupidity

Mother-of-four Kristina Coulson and her husband, Dan, live in Cornwall and needed to collect a new car near Crewe after Mrs Coulson was hit by a drunk driver.

She “could not believe how expensive” getting a train would cost – up to £200 per person just for the one-way journey.

After some research the support worker found it was cheaper to fly from Newquay to Malaga and back to Manchester – with flights costing £54.

On Sunday Jan 19 Mrs Coulson, 43, and her husband, 50, packed their bags and caught their flight to the south of Spain.

They spent the day there, then flew back and stayed in a hotel near to where they were picking her new Skoda Yeti, then drove home.

They spent £54 each on flights and £45 for a hotel – a total cost of £153.

The mother, from Lansallos, in Cornwall, said: “A bit of good came from something bad – the car accident and having to sort out a car – as it sent me in the direction of sunshine on my way to pick up a new car.

“Everything was on time - it was just lovely and easy.

“On a flight you are guaranteed a seat, you don’t have to stand up for hours on the train, and it is quicker.”

Mrs Coulson was hit by a drunk driver on Dec 12 in Devon and luckily wasn’t injured in the crash.

“Having been hit by a drunk driver I’m not in a position to buy what I wanted but for now the car I’m getting is enough,” she said.

The cheapest place to go to and from was Malaga.”

Her flight, which arrived into just after 12pm, cost £19. The flight back to Manchester was set for 10pm and arrived just after midnight and cost £35.

“It is a bit of an out there idea. I haven’t heard anyone doing it just to pick up a car,” she said.

Mrs Coulson made the most out of her trip to Malaga: enjoying the sun, food and drinks.

She said: “Rather than sitting in a train you are travelling to Malaga I spent eight hours in the sun.

“It was quite a little adventure. Positive fun which has come from a few weeks of nightmares and phone calls.

Hi all, I'm planning to go to Cornwall in early September with my wife and golden retriever, we live in London and are planning on getting the train down. We don't plan on hiring a car so looking for a suggestion of how to split a week.

I was looking at Falmouth as a starting point given ease of getting there and I can see there is some nice day trips such as St Mawes. I'd appreciate any other tips. Is September a good time to visit in terms of weather still being warm? Where else should we go? Should we base ourselves in Falmouth for entire week or do 3/4 days there and then go somewhere else for the rest of the time?

I am looking at getting back into mountain biking for the first time in around 10 years or so, got the bike, gear but absolutely no knowledge of proper off road Cornish routes. I want to totally avoid routes involving any on road riding and want purely off road. Any suggestions?
