Technical running

Hi all, I’m training for a marathon in the Peak District this autumn that involves a fair bit of technical terrain and steep climbs/descents etc. I’m definitely going to get up there for some recce runs before, but my training will almost all be here in Devon. Does anyone know of any routes that would be good training for that kind of terrain?

A tourist in need of tips!

Hi Everyone,

This summer, I'll be going to Exmoor park for a week approximately and curious as to whether members of this community know the 'best' or most beautiful but also difficult walks in the area. I would love to receive any tips!

Further, if there are strong recommendations of what to see in Exmoor (or the surrounding area but close) I would also love to know.

Thank you all so much and kind regards

Sunshine & surf have been in pretty short supply this winter in the UK; on a handful of days perfect waves have rolled onto the North Devon Coastline. Beneath cold clear skies, this cinematic short captures a few of those magical moments. Please share & subscribe the channel, All feedback welcome

December is a month like no other, this short is a visual feast of snow, frost and festive lights. Filmed over the last three years at various locations in Devon from deserted snow fields to busy rain drenched streets I’ve tried to capture some of the unique sights and sounds of midwinter

last week. The wind from this storm was the most powerful I have ever experienced. Wind is not an easy thing to film, I’ve tried to capture that energy in the footage. All feedback welcome

What's it like in Lynton & Lynmouth (and other Exmoor tourist towns) in winter?

I recently visited Exmoor with my family - loved it, beautiful country, I'll definitely be back sometime. I very much appreciated the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth, though the extreme touristism especially in lynmouth was a little depressing (I know I am one of those tourists, so I can't really complain - and hey, much better to be an overly touristy seaside resort than a dead one.) It did make me wonder how many people actually live there, and what was it like when the tourists dissapear, ie in winter? Is it just a ghost town, or are there actually a fair number of tourists year round?

(I do live in a very touristy city myself - Oxford - but there's the actual population and all the students so it never feels quiet).

Are there often accidents on Mars hill / Porlock hill? What happens in winter?

I visited Exmoor with the family a couple of weeks ago - loved it, beautiful country, I think I'll definitely be back. We were suprised by the extreme gradiant hills - especially Mars hill between Lynton and Lynmouth, and Porlock hill. The first time I took them in my little hyundai i10 I wasn't certain it was going to make it - and when I had to stop halfway up Mars hill because the car in front stalled, the handbrake wouldn't hold it in place! It made me wonder how often accidents happen on those hills. Are there cars that simply don't make it up them? And then I gave myself the chills imagining what it would be like to take those hills if they were icy - what happens in the winter? Do they get closed, or does the council just make sure they are well gritted?

The subreddit is open

Whilst the strike is on-going, I don't think it is fair to keep smaller, geographic-specific subreddits closed longer than necessary.

Thank you for your support and understanding during the blackout. Whilst I can't guarantee there won't be any further strike action in the future, the sub it open now.
