I have a new 126gl tank setup with a range of south and central american cichlids (osacrs, jack dempseys, convicts and acaras) and Marble plecos (also had clown loaches but they have since passed). Every fish is 2inches or smaller. Before anyone comments on tanks size or fish compatability yes I have done my research, everyone is pleasant atm and yes I'm aware I'll either be rehoming as they grow or investing into a much much larger tank to keep everyone. My problem is we have ich 1 of my acaras, 1 of my convicts and 1 of my oscars have a couple of white spots on each. We've had 3 losses to the tank both clown loaches and 1 of the oscars (oscar may have been an unrelated death he was agressive and it didnt take long til the other oscars and convicts responded in kind). I cannot quarintine the affected fish as I only have the 1 setup and recommendations to increase the temp I am concerned if I raise it to any closer to 30 degress C may cause even more stress to the oscars (have currently raised it to 27 degrees from 25 degrees). Also havent found any definitive paramaters for these fish and raising the salinity especially at this size. I will be puchasing medications tomorrow and potentially doing a partial water change.
PLEASE ANY HELP OR SUGESTIONS WOULD BE MUCH APPRICIATED
I want to prevent any further death in this tank as it has affected water paramaters spiking the amonia levels which I am currently trying to correct.
Our flowerhorn layed eggs in out community tank cave and one of the convict males must have fertilised them and now their are fry probably approximately three days old. I want to move them to an isolated tank using the communal tank water so the parameters don’t change, so I can still isolate them so my Oscar and Severum and the other convicts won’t eat them. Looking for any advice as I’ve never breed before and want the best for the fry, and wondering if I keep them with the mother or if I can move them without her? As I’m also a little worried her bitchy nature will leave her to grow tired of the fry and eat them too, though thus far all she has been is defensive of them.
Apistogramma hongsloi has lost colour overnight and has clamped fins. He's the only fish in the tank that is showing any signs of a problem. What could be the cause? Tank has more than adequate filteration and plenty of surface agitation from the extra sponge filter and air stones. Water tests are, ammonia 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm and nitrate is between 0-10ppm. Tanks heavily planted with Cory's, tetras and 3 other apistos, 2 of which are a bit bigger. Thanks.
The Firemouth has been bloated for a month. At first it hid alot and kept its mouth open all the time, I thought it had gill fluke however now it's become super bloated post treatment with Prazi and Levamisole. Fish isn't eating pooping clear. Should I take it out of the tank and treat it with Epsom salt? Or some other antibiotic?
Thanks :)
So I recently purchased 5 eba from my lfs. They've only been in my tank for 13 days. Either when I bought them I bought a pair or they became a pair at some point in the last couple weeks in my tank. I did a water change yesterday and one of them was nipping at my hand when I was moving a plant. Didn't think anything of it and when I got home from work today I noticed all the fry, there's a lot. The parents are doing wonderful at protecting them and I even saw one crush a pellet for them, fed the pellets before I saw the fry.
They are in a 75 gallon with 5 angelfish, a pleco (1 1/2 inch) 4 rabbit snails, and the 5 eba. Should I move the fry to another tank, when should I move the fry, should I keep the parents with them, or should I just keep them all together and let nature it's course? I so wasn't expecting/prepared for this yet.
It was time for a water change and some tank maintenance
So I changed the tank a couple of days ago.Clean , everything got rock , cleaned it out. And about two days later , I noticed these spots on my fish. I've had the fish.Maybe two years I really like it , so i'm pretty nervous please let me know what I can do to treat it or is it even dangerous to the fish. I know some say it can be the color but it didn't have it 2 days ago. Water temp is the same as the old tank didn't change nothing but moved it to more space. It eats and seems just as active.
Added 4 new fishes How to deal with the white spots on the glass??
Hey everyone, first off Happy Halloween! I had a strange question after watching the behaviors of my gold severum and keyhole cichlid and I was wondering would it be possible for the two to crossbreed? I'm aware that most central American cichlids will crossbreed with eachother but considering how friendly they are with eachother I was wondering if this was at all possible and something I'd need to worry about. Thanks :)
Gonna be setting up a 125 6 ft south american chiclid tank I got a good price on water box anyone ever use these tank im gonna run it with 2 fluval fx6 ?
Spotted in Marysville Washington a few GIANT cichlids, the workers said they were surrendered, they are doing the best they can but obviously none of the tanks are big enough… go grab them someone with a massive tank! A few jewel cichlids, I think a peacock, a bumblebee and this Massive one I don’t know the name of he’s almost a foot I swear!
Currently getting my 55 gallon ready for an Oscar, gonna get a baby one, what are the best tankmates for them also accounting for tank size, I have gravel substrate, some stones, driftwood, and a few live plants.
I'm get a 70 gallon tank, I wanted to stock it with chilids. What are good options that are colorful?
I have 20+ years of experience with freshwater fish.
Title says it all. I've been cycling for over a month. The last week I tried adding Prime and Stability to help speed things up. The ammonia dropped a lot but I can't get it to 0.
I don't have fish in there yet. (I'm getting some mbuna (5 labs and 5 yellow tails to start - all juvies).
I have some anubis and java fern plants coming in (I know, they fish will probably uproot/destroy them eventually) but I understand plants help with amonia.
Any advice would be helpful.
Finally got a decent breeder box set up!
I cant put my finger on it but he hasn't grown very much, l've had him over 6 months. It seems like he's blind? He cant get to his food properly, a brine shrimp will be infront of him and he misses his bite almost Everytime. Im not sure whats up with him. I told myself id just keep him and give him a good life, and him being probably blind or Autistic he wont be a bully to my other fish..
