Why is she digging the substrate

Is it normal behaviour, if it isn't, what's wrong. Also, can I make it stop by doing anything

When your ramshorn snail is trying to make your newcomers feel welcome!

It warms my heart. Snails really do show some sort of interest/affection. He’s been snuggled up next to the newcomer (just arrived today) for like a half hour! It’s helping him to come out of his shell (figuratively and literally 😆). This hobby is so rewarding! 🫶🏼

Giant Ramshorns ate my tank

Welp. I am a fool.

I purchased two giant ramshorns for fun and read that they are great eaters of plants. I put them in my very heavily planted 30 gallon tank thinking nothing of it and now have probably 50 plus snails. That appetite is no joke. My Java ferns are now more like Java sticks.

I don’t really want to cull them all or just hand a bag of snails over to my LFS. Has anyone kept these before and been able to keep them from over munching the whole tank? Right now I’m thinking I might just buy them a weekly head of lettuce to try and encourage feeding on something other than Java sticks but not sure if they’ll go for that instead.

Any advice welcome even if it is to just get rid of then.

Humiliating the new Assassin Snail

Got 3 new Assassin snails for my tank that already had a few Ramshorn snails. Saw this Ramshorn riding around on one of them. How embarrassing to have your dinner use you as an Uber.

What to do with Single Nerite Snail

Hi Folks,

Recently my betta fish unfortunately passed on and I was thinking about tearing down the tank and taking a break from fishkeeping for a while.

However, I have a single nerite snail in that tank that was keeping algae control. I don't feel like killing it is right because it's an animal I've taken into my care and that feels cruel. But, also I don't want to maintain this whole tank for one snail I got as a maintenance helper.

Any advice on what to do? Is there a place that would take the snail? Or are there maybe smaller tanks or terrarium like situations that folks could recommend for a single small snail?

Thanks in advance!

Help please

I know, it’s bad. It fell out of the tank and onto the floor. I’m currently on vacation and getting this info from my roommate. The parameters were just checked and are fine. Lesson learned there will be a better lid on the tank.

What do I do? I feel like there’s no way he will make it but I can’t stand it like suffering. Not to mention I’m not even home.

What is your mystery snails' favorite food?

Hi!!

I just bought 2 mystery snails and I love them to the moon and back.

Only thing that sucks is they can't eat algae wafers because the fish eat them all up in like a single minute.

What veggies can I give them? I heard about zucchini but do I have to boil it first?

Thanks in advance !!

Num num num

My zebra nerite is so cute. Never thought I would think a snail is cute but here I am. How do I know if he is getting enough food? I don’t see a lot of algae in this tank and bladder snails have taken up residence so they may be outcompeting him for food. I have another tank with lots of green algae on the driftwood and some staghorn algae I could move him to.

This is Snibbly and I'm real proud of her

She wasn't doing well but she's turned it around and is doing much better now. I've had her over a year.

Leach doing leach things- harmful to snails, right?

Are there more? Is it harmful to tank inhabitants? Info- It's been 5 months since I've added plants and a mystery snail to the aquarium. Mystery snail died shortly after arrival. Tank consists of two amano shrimp, two Japanese trap doors, three nerites, a big old chopstick (going on 6 years) and bunch of red rams horns. Tank is pretty heavily planted, and I moved the tank 4 months ago to an area I don't see as much unless feeding and maintenance. First time seeing this leach wandering through the aquarium and heading towards the snello I was dropping. When I pulled him out he was attached to the snello in a big pile of rams horns.

Is his shell ok??

I’m very new to having this guy (pretty super he’s an apple snail) and since having him I’ve noticed his shell looks almost like it’s peeling?? Is this a disease or something to do with his water? Any advice would be appreciated I want the best for my new friend!

how many snails can I put in my tank?

Hi there, I was just wondering how many snails I could put in my 21 litre (or about 5 gallon) tank. It's fully cycled and whatnot. Thanks in advance!

Two new mystery snails, not moving around at all during the day

They seem like they're still alive and they are in different spots when I wake up in the morning but all day they don't really move around.

Whenever I've had mystery snails in the past they have been all over the tank so I'm not sure what's going on with these two. I have a nerite snail which is fine and four fish who are also fine.

Any ideas?? Thanks in advance for helping me figure out the "mystery" (sorry I had to).
