Questions about Nerite Snail

  1. I have a 6Gal Betta tank with Green Spot Algea problems. Can I fit 2 Nerite Snails in there?

  2. If I have only female nerite snails, will they lay eggs? I know the eggs won't hatch, but I heard some people said they won't laid eggs at all without a male.

  3. How to provide Nerite Snail with mineral through food? I don't want to dose my tank with chemical.

Found an egg from my blueberry snail?

Hey guys I bought some "blueberry snails" from an LFS, I heard they were live bearers and ... Found an egg with a snail it? Maybe I'm just misunderstanding what livebearer means?

I found something called the gold spotted rabbit snail that looked similar to it, but the shell looks completely different, but saw they also laid eggs?

Is my new snail ok?

I just got this nerite snail a few days ago. Today I noticed this big chip on the tip of its shell. It seems rather large. Will this snail be ok? It’s behaving normally, very active and eating constantly.

What to do with baby snails

What can I do with all of these baby snails? I really like the snails but I don’t want them to overload the tank.

I’m also not sure what kind of snails they are. There was a mystery snail in there for a bit so I think that’s what they are but I’m not sure. They could also have come from some of the live plants. I first noticed them a couple months ago but I haven’t seen any get bigger than this. I first saw just a few but now there’s a bunch. The original mystery snail is now in a different tank doing well. This is the best photo I could get.

Anyone know about leeches?

My tanks have both pond and bladder snails, and one has ramshorns. I love the snails. Like a rookie I trimmed some plants and put a few in the other tanks. I’ve raised cardinals this way- went into a shrimp only tank as eggs ;) This is a very bad practice unless you have no possible hitchhikers. I now have snail leeches in 3 tanks. I hate them and it’s impossible to eliminate them. Here’s the funny thing though, they don’t seem to bother the pond snails. Neither does my turtle. I harvest some snails for her and she loves mts, her favorite, and bladder snails but I watched her bite a pond snail and she spit it out. So maybe they have some toxicity? Back to those leeches. I’m about to switch tanks around. I’d love to eliminate those darn leeches. The only methods I can think of would crash the system and kill the plants. So only way is start from scratch? I can leave the substrates in the sun for a while and reuse those, but the plants. Maybe I’d have to set up a tank for the plants, remove the snails, and the leeches starve? Help

Snails and water heaters

We lost one of our nerite snails about a month ago after I found it wedged between the heater and glass. Now today I found the other nerite snail in a similar spot on the heater. I went to pull it off the heater and it fell to the sand. I’m thinking this one is dead too. Any way to deter the snails from going onto the heater?

Shell help

I bought this snail at a box pet store. I saw the shell but I thought another snail may have laid some eggs on it. After a closer look it seems like bits of shell broke off. Is there anything I should do to help it?

What kind of snail is this?

Title says what I’m after here. I have an infestation of these guys and am contemplating rescaping if I can’t find a way to get rid of them. My bumblebee goby won’t touch them.

Beginner Snail Tank Advice

I’ve been passively keeping snails I raised in a class I took last year and recently decided to turn it into a more serious hobby. I’m a dorming college student and currently keep my snails in an old tank I brought from home, but will be getting a new tank soon. Right now, I have a handful of ramshorn snails and bladder or pond snails I picked up when scavenging for plants, but I don’t plan on adding snails any time soon.

As of now, I have a filter and heater that has been working for quite a while, and I think I’ve got plants and decorations covered. The main issue I’m trying to tackle is what substrate to use; right now I only have gravel, but I want to switch to a soil/sand mixture. I’ve seen plenty of mixed reviews on what (if any) soil should be used, and it’s throwing me for quite a loop!

I’m definitely a beginner and am still pretty unfamiliar with a lot of terminology, but I’m really interested in snail keeping. I can try elaborate on anything, but I unfortunately don't have any means of measuring water quality yet. I’d greatly appreciate any advice, not just about substrate, because I wanna make sure that my snails are happy and healthy :)

Mantle collapse?

I can see far into his shell and I'm a little worried, does this look like mantle collapse? should I be concerned?

Nerite shell eroded?

Just bought this horned nerite snail and I didn’t really pay attention to what the guy at the store picked for me. Now i can see that a couple of it’s horns are broken in half and it has this white erosion on its shell. Will it be ok? Is there anything I can do to help it heal?

Something ate my nerite

I haven't seen him move for a couple of days, so I decided to check if he's ok. Pulled him out only to discover an empty shell and a lonely flap laying beneath it. No sign of the body. Now I've pulled out dead snails before, it happens, but never an empty one. Other tank inhabitants are 7 tetra glo, 5 pepper corys, one ancitrus, 6 pigmy corys, a black cory and three mollies. As far as I'm aware I have some ramsohrns, some bladders, 3 nerites and a mystery snail. What could have cleaned out the shell so quickly?
