A Note on Wildfire (or other) Emergency Evacuations

**Note that at this time, the Alberta and BC CFOs has not made a statement about ATT's. We will update this when they do, if they do**

We've had a few people posting that are in the vicinity of the Fort Nelson or Fort McMurray Fires, asking about their firearms. Here's a quick guide to what we know you can or cannot do in a legal sense:

  • Firstly and above all, your safety and that of anyone in your care should be your priority. Guns are things. Yes, some guns are irreplaceable things but they're no good to you if you're dead or incapacitated or you have to live with some kind of guilt about waiting too long and someone got hurt. Just get out. Things can be replaced. Fires move fast. If someone in a position of authority is telling you to MOVE NOW, you move now.

  • If you have time to pack guns, then you should prepare to transport them as if you are STORING them, NOT transporting them, in case you're winding up with no place to move them to. This means, in most cases, simply trigger locking the firearms. If you know you have somewhere to go, where you can take them out of your vehicle, you can keep them in transport configuration; if you think you may wind up in an evacuation centre or shelter, then pack as if you're storing them. Same with ammunition.

  • Restricted firearms and prohibited firearms DO REQUIRE an ATT, legally. If you are potentially in the path of a wildfire, go on the RCMP web portal (https://rcmp.ca/en/firearms/individual-web-services) and preemptively send in an ATT request to where ever you might be going, if you know. You can put a reason in. Even if you are not granted an ATT in time, you have the documentation that you applied for it which would go a long way if something happened.

  • OIC firearms - this is the big unknown. Legally, you cannot transport these firearms because they are prohibited and you cannot get an ATT for them. CFO's have been generous with letting people move homes with them but that's frankly because they have no way of dealing with it either. If you ask a lawyer they're going to tell you not to take these firearms with you. That's what we're going to tell you here.

  • Last time, various stores offered storage of firearms to evacuees. If any Alberta or BC businesses that can legally store firearms want to chime in here, they can offer advice or assistance.

  • Would the police confiscate OIC firearms in a search? We don't know. It depends highly on why they're searching you in the first place. Don't give them a reason to search in the first place.

  • Would the police confiscate restricted firearms being moved without a valid ATT? We don't know, again it depends why you're being searched and the circumstances. We cannot say one way or the other. We will note that, all other reasons discarded, it is *unlikely* they would, and if they did, you would probably get them back. Talk to a lawyer if this happens to you.

The biggest thing we can say here is keep your head. If you've never had to evacuate before, you're going to be mentally pulled in a million directions at once. In a moment of panic your decision making skills can be compromised if you don't have a plan in place. Take the time. Plan your routes. Plan what you're taking. Plan what's getting left behind. Plan emergency bags. Make sure your family is aware. Make peace with that. It will not be fun, and we're all thinking of you.

For everyone else - GET INSURANCE. Your homeowner's or tenant's insurance may or may not specifically include or exclude firearms. Check. Many insurance companies do not automatically insure something considered a collection: you may need to declare it separately. Check your policy now.

If the worst happens, and firearms are destroyed, you as the owner have a duty under the law to report the firearms as destroyed. I know it is going to be the absolutely last thing on your mind in this instance. At some point, you will need to do it. You will probably have to provide some kind of proof. Take photos.

Lastly, for any of you who can, get the firearms legal insurance. If you need to speak to a lawyer or you find yourself in the above situations, you need it. Get it now: https://firearmlegaldefence.com/

We're going to keep this thread open for a bit but we are going to stress:

DO NOT ADVOCATE HERE FOR PEOPLE TO BREAK THE LAW. DO NOT GIVE INCORRECT LEGAL ADVICE. Your post will be removed. This is not a slight to you, we need to make sure people are not confused.

GForce huckleberry .38/ .357

Anyone have experience with the GForce huckleberry?

https://gforcearms.com/firearms/rifles/gflvr357-rifle/

I've been seeing them pop up, but not many reviews threads on Reddit. I haven't really heard anything bad about them except "oh no, Turkish bad".

I've had experience with Girsan which has been positive so far. I have almost 0 experience with lever actions, and this seems to be the cheapest thing I can find in .38/.357 around ~$1100 locally.

I know Rossi is tried and tested, but I can't seem to find a comparable for less than. ~$1300 locally.

YouTube reviews seem to be good (but I want to hear from real people)

M1 carbine sight adjustment help/opinions please

Hi folks,

My M1 carbine is a inland and has the graduated rear sight that can be adjusted to 1, 2, 2.5 and 3 (100, 200, 250 and 300 yards).

From what I red, m1 battle carbine were adjusted in a way that should have a 6 o’clock hold under a 6 3/8" target. ( SR-1 NRA targets) Basically aiming 3 3/16" under the bullseye.

I went many times to the range and slowly filed down the front sight that was way too high. Today, I went to the range again to finish my sight adjustments with my own reloads (110gr FNJ RN bullet with 15gr of H110 (max load)) and with oem PPU ammo.

I was very pleased with the results but I had a small concern…

At 50 yards, I need to use a 6 o’clock being on the 1 one the rear sight. Both (my reloads and PPU) hit bullseye 👍

At 100 yards, (using the "1" on rear sight) I need to have a 6 o’clock hold with my reloads to hit bullseye 👍 but now need to use a center hold to hit bullseye with PPU (I can live with that)

At 200 yards, (using the "2" on rear sight) I now need to use a center hold for both my reloads and PPU ammo. I guess I can live with that aswell.

At 250 yards, (using the "2.5" marking on the rear sight) I need to use a center hold for both ammunitions again. With PPU I have a great group for the distance (for me at least) 7"-8" group but it is impacting 8" low. Concerning my reloads, it impacted 6" low with a center hold as well (was running out of ammo, just fired one shot of my reloads at this distance)

At 300 yards, (using the "3" marking on the rear sight) I need to use a center hold for both ammunitions again. With PPU, I did a 9" group but 7" low and with my reloads, (was running out of ammo, just fired one shot of my reloads at this distance) and it impacted at The bullseye with a center hold.

Now, my question is, do I keep this like that since I know where to aim and hold to hit the target or should I file slightly the front post again (0.006"=1/2" at 50 yards elevation change, around 3" at 300 yards) wich seems to be what I’d need to have a 6 o’clock hold at 300 but I’d be in between a center hold and a 6 o’clock hold at 200 and I’d still be low even with center hold….

Also, the barrel was changed at some point in the rifle’s life and is a tiny bit longer witch may be part of the reason why the sight doesn’t fit perfectly with the markings. But I want to keep it that way since it’s now an non-restricted rifle 😁.

I hope this is quite clear, Any idea or suggestions?

Thanks for reading untill the end!

Unusual wear on Type 81 Bolt Carrier

Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to firearm ownership, and recently put close to a hundred rounds into my new Type 81 Underfolder. Today, when I was cleaning the rifle after coming back from the range, I noticed an unusual wear spot in the back of the bolt carrier (circled below in red). Can anybody tell me if this is normal? Thanks

What would you do?

Ok so I just got back from the range, took my SKS with me.

I shot 2 boxes of barnaul 7.62x39 (40 shots) with the SKS, it was cleaned and lubed before those 2 boxes. So my question is, would you rush to clean it again after only 40 shots or is that overkill? Is there any harm to just leaving it till next time and cleaning it after that?

What would you guys do? I know these are rugged guns but I don't want to potentially damage it for the sake of being lazy.

Felt a little curious today so I bought one box of 50 BMG, never realize how ginormous this thing is sitting next to a 308. Hopefully we can get something that can fire this beast in the future.

2 of Everything

Got my PAL a few months ago and was told that 2 is 1, and 1 is 0. Decided I needed to buy 2 of Everything (with slight variations). It’s expensive and challenging with hard to find stuff but so much fun! My Tavor 7s in Black and ODG.

Start your weekend right

Took out the FX-9 and Citadel Levtac 92. Also had to sight in the new dot on the type 81 as it donated the Romeo5 to the Levtac.

CCI 22wmr VNT

Anybody have any experience with this ammo? For 22mag it (on paper) has pretty amazing ballistics and terminal power. Watched some reviews on YouTube and ppl were pretty much blowing up groundhogs with them.

Anyone know what this is used for on the X95 Tavor?

It says on the manual that it’s a pivot barrel lock, but doesn’t explain it at all..? Might be a noob question … sorry in advance but would love any help

500 rounds in

Gen 2 templar. Triggertech duty Trigger, Daniel defence extractor and bcm spring. Also added a nylon/carbon fiber plate behind the bold release to avoid any issues with the extremely thin wall. 3 stovepipes in the first 300 rounds. Next 200 no issues running gen 1&2 cross mags, gen 3 pmags and a utg mag that came with it. I am also going to change out the brass deflector to something with a little less of a forward angle. Why did I buy a Canadian 180 (my 3rd), again? Because I like how it looks and I like to fck around with them and tinker. 🤣 Don't worry, I have other rifles that fill the shtf role. So far, I don't regret the purchase. If I ended up punching out the thin wall behind the bolt release, would I bother sending it in for warranty, or would I tig a thicker piece in and 🅱️aint it...that's the question.
