Hi! New here to the BattleBots thing. Just built a beetleweight, and everything is looking good except for the reverse throttle.
I'm using mixing on the ESC, and no mixing on the FlySky i6. When going forward, the bot goes perfectly straight. It also turns right/left correctly. However, when trying to reverse, the robot turns to the right HARD, almost as if I'm holding reverse and right simultaneously.
I checked for previous advice here, but they all seem to be about issues with mixing (ex. going forward turns the bot as well). I'm lost though since our forward works perfectly--only the reverse has issues.
Any ideas/advice? We are using the Dual ESC WEKA for reference.
still, i have to say that it's one of the things with the most universal appeal that i have ever seen, i yjink that showing a top tier fight to someone is enough to have a new fan
Greetings Roboteers,
I was hoping to probe for some information through this subreddit;
25 years ago I used to run a beetle weight robot, and had to quit for financial reasons (running a bot as a teenager was rough on my allowance). But now that ive gotten ahead in life a little, I have bought myself a nice 3D printer which would allow a ton of fun in the ant weight class of this wonderful sport. However, it seems all the old watering holes have dried up and gone away. I cant find anything recent involving regular gatherings and friendly bouts in the battlebox.
Has Robot fighting died out in the Netherlands?
The way I see it, the motors and batteries that powered the spinners in the 90s to early 00s were a lot heavier than what we have today, meaning that the armor of spinners weren't so different to that of flippers. Today however, spinner motors have decreased drastically in size, whilst pneumatic tanks have not. I therefore propose that machines with hydraulic or pneumatic weaponry should be given a small weight bonus so that all machines are on roughly the same playing field when it comes to armor and durability potential.
I should say that I'm not a builder, and if anyone can tell me why this is a terrible idea, feel free to explain it to me.
Talk to me about foam wheels.
-why?
-why not?
-which ones?
-Size concerns?
-Can I laser cut my own?
-Are they allowed in PlAnts?
As the title said I was wondering if this controller and receiver were compatible and if there is a way to check compatibility for other controllers and receivers fro later projects. Thank you for all the help!
I recently wanted to start a club that does a modified version of Plastic Antweight league. We wouldn't be competeing in any competiton we would just be doing this at our school club. (We will have a contained arena) So I wanted to build kits for each "team", but I want to make sure I have the right/compatibale gear. I have a list under this. Is this all the stuff I need, despite 3d prints, screws, electrical tape?
(Each kit would have a drivetrain setup and one spinning weapon, I am open to other weapon ideas0
Thank you so much!
Hey all, I'm officially registered in my first competition as a 1lb plastic robot. I've built the bot and it's awesome, but I have NO IDEA what I'm up against. I was surprised reading the rules that I can't use TPU armor or composite plastics, so now the bot is PLA+ body with a PETG horizontal spinner.
What noobie mistakes can I avoid? Any design or slicing considerations that come with experience? Any and all advice is appreciated.
tldr; I am considering organizing Antweight class event in Czech Republic.
I'd like to build small battle bot but there are no events in Central Europe as far as I am aware and building it just for sake of building isn't exactly what I want to do. Therefore if I want to have a event, I'd have to do it myself.
I am thinking in this direction - put it as part od some bigger event, say Makerfaire so this won't be only reason to go and it will have some audience as well.
Regarding class - I am thinking about UK rules Antweight, possibly non-destructive. My reasoning is simple - if there is nothing, Antweight is cheap and simple enough for many to do and non-destructive is good option if there will be few participants so you can easily do multiple rounds with minimal or no repairs. Let me know what you think.
Question remains - will I be there alone or is there enough people interested in something like this?
I have never built a battle bot and I did some research I thought a antweight would be a good place to start but all of the components are confusing me all I have is a Radio master pocket could anyone help????
I'm planning on making a 2 wheel beetleweight robot using the finger tech beater bar and was wondering what are some good ways to right a flipped robot. Should I just design it to work the same when flipped, or is there something I can add to the design to make it easier to unflip myself? Thanks!
They use up <2 grams of filament, so you can print 50 of these and make an army of little minibots! I'm working on a version where you can slide in a DC motor and a small battery to make it run around and the fork to move up and down. If anyone ends up printing a little army drop a picture, i'd love to see it!

This is what I'm talking about, where for some reason they decided to rank bots like this: Aggression, Control, Weapons, and Defence. I would have added reliability and speed if we go on the modern standards.
This is what bot stats would look like to other bots in the rest of the series.
Endgame (S5-7)
Aggression: 69 Control: 75 Weapons: 85 Defence: 75
Deep Six
Aggression: 48 Control: 37 Weapons: 100 Defence: 43
Huge (I have a hard time on figuring out how control works, because Huge wouldn't do well as a push bot, but the opponent can't even control huge because Huge just drives over them)
Aggression: 88 Control: 75 Weapons: 100 Defence: 64 (72 if on Horizontal configuration)
Hydra
Aggression: 72 Control: 90 Weapons: 77 Defence: 76
Riptide
Aggression: 100 Control: 85 Weapons: 95 Defence: 86
Moist Pony
Aggression: 1 Control: 1 Weapons: 0 Defence: -3
Ripperoni
Aggression: 68 Control: 42 Weapons: 86 Defence: 62
Claw Viper
Aggression: 100 Control: 100 Weapons: 65 Defence: 70
I think it's up to you to put the speed and reliability, and I can tell I would give Claw Viper with 100 speed.
How would you rank other bots base on WCI-WCII stats?
For those who would like a refresher of what each version of Hypershock looks like, here are links to the images of every version of Hypershock so the images themselves don't take up too much space like the Tombstone images from the last poll.

EDIT: I've added a link to Hypershock's page on the BattleBots wiki so you can see each version of Hypershock because the image links don't work anymore.

I want to say here that I have massive respect for Max Bales for giving Mohawk a shot. Crushers are so difficult to build at the best of times, and to build one with a flamethrower is no mean feat.
Having said that… man was Mohawk painful to watch. It had no self righting mechanism, its wedge was nowhere close to the floor, and the crusher was never able to crush. It was such a cool concept, piercing the armour and setting the internals on fire (a concept people still want to see happen today). Remember also that Mohawk existed before Spectre, so the crown to be the next Razer was ripe for the taking. But even in its one win, that crusher wasn’t ever going to pierce anything. In its WCIII melee, it couldn’t even pierce Gemini. So for as cool an idea Mohawk is, was there any machine it could possibly pierce?
Hi- curious what my best path is here. Im capable of soldering, I have a 3d printer, and want to do an ant weight without pre built kits. Should I start learning cad? Im no physicist or engineer. Do most people order their metal parts?
I'll be in Vegas next week, and spotted that there are tickets available.
I noticed that tomorrow's show has been canceled. Got me curious - is the destruct-a-thon any good? Worth doing?
I love the TV show, but don't really follow it outside of that. Will I recognize any of the bots? And how long is the show?
My school will host a battle bot competition where you need to build a remote controlled bot to fight in a square ring.
Do you guys have any tips or strategies to have an advantage?
Sorry, I'm sure this has been asked many times, but it's frustrating to spend my time going between all these platforms that allegedly hosted the seasons at one point or another (but no longer do).
I'm looking for a way to watch past season 5 which was released on Youtube recently. I'm going to find a way one way or another, but it would be great if it was a simple platform. Netflix seems to have removed it. ITV doesn't even show it (Battlebots website states it is on ITV). Prime you have to buy it per episode which would be expensive, and the same with Youtube.
It's unlikely I'm going to buy a VPN just to try purchase it cheaper or anything of that sort... I'd be more likely to find myself on an "unofficial provider".
Does anyone in the UK have an alternative? I might have to check Ebay quickly now for DVD boxsets, if they even released.
Thanks.
where could I make a custom weapon like a beater bar or a vertical or horizontal spinner for my 1 pound combat robot, of metals like AR500 or any strong steel?
After talking with my cousin about his expierence with plastic antweight I wanted to start a small local club that does a modified version of the real competetion. The idea is that we meet every 2 weeks fro fights and then we meet twice a week for community building/questions.
To start this off I wanted to kind of build a kit. As everyone including me is a beginer to this I wanted to find a cheap list of materials that include 2 drive motors, a controller, battery, 1 weapon motor, transmitter, ESCs, etc. I really have no clue what to get. I want decent stuff but cheap. It doesn't necessarily need to be competition legal as we don.t plan to go to any real events. I was hoping to make he "kit" between 20-100 dollars. If anyone can help me find parts that would be incredible. Thank yo so much!
Thank you!
