Sorry if this has been talked about already. My son abd I were watching the Vegas All Stars and got curious. Google says he "said no" to something. Did he really just leave to go to PFL, or was there something worth talking about that happened?
Thanks!
From what I’ve looked into, SendCutSend is best for laser cutting parts, while CNC madness is best for carbon fiber parts. Is that accurate, and are there similar services that are worth mentioning?
Looking at expanding from plastic ants to Full-combat ants and beetles (most likely beetles). My school has a machine shop with TONS of scrap metal to use, especially mild steel. While obviously not going to outperform metals like AR400/AR500, 4130 or S7, is it passable as a weapon material?
To set the bar, I’ll say “passable” means it can survive a 3 minute fight against another spinner.
Dual 2lb bots i fought at the October NHRL (0w, 2l) :/
I don't know if this is just me, but I've been trying to subscribe to the facebook page for about 2 weeks now, because I both want to support the show and get access to the new fights they're putting up, but facebook is refusing to actually accept any payment.
I'm UK based, if anybody else is having similar problems, and have tried both paypal and a debit card, and every single time I just get a generic "unable to process payment at this current time" type of message.
Anybody else who had this kind of problem actually figure out how the hell to make it work?
I can't help but feel that it really shouldn't be this difficult to give a company your damn money!
I’ve been rewatching the first season of King Of Bots recently, and honestly I’m still surprised how great the show was. It definitely felt like a love letter to robot combat watching it.
When an international competitor showed up, the show actually went into depth with how well they did in Robot Wars or Battlebots. Before Tanche’s first fight, they actually mentioned that Terrorhurtz beat Sabretooth in series 6 and Sabretooth beat Terrorhurtz in series 9. Ian Lewis from Razer was actually one of the judges who they interviewed fairly regularly. This was also where we got to see Great White and Blue which would eventually become Death Roll and Shatter from Battlebots. And seeing Megabyte in this was glorious. I would argue we never saw Gigabyte this ferocious, and their fights were all amazing.
A bunch of the Chinese machines were no slouches either. Barbecue King was a very powerful machine that was definitely on the upper end of vertical spinners for the time (remember that this was before Battlebots season 3). Thunder and Lightning made it to fourth place as a multibot which will probably remain the best performance one will ever do. And Sun Wheel was so incredibly durable. Watching their wedge and drum being ripped away and STILL working was unbelievable. A very worthy runner up.
The here is probably the ideal arena for robot combat for me. Oota zones in the corners, flippers closer to the centre, and those massive spinners along the sides that can actually do damage. I’m not a fan of the fog that blocks the driver view for a few seconds though. It’s no fog of war, but it’s still not my cup of tea.
One thing that’s surprising to me is the lack of bias towards the Chinese machines. I’m well aware that in This Is Fighting Robots this wasn’t the case, but I couldn’t detect any Chinese bias here. Of the four wildcards, three of them were international, with the one Chinese wildcard being a deserved pick. The tournament bracket wasn’t particularly favourable to the Chinese machines either. They could’ve easily had the top 4 be Spectre vs Megabyte and Thunder & Lightning vs Sun Wheel, but they did it.
Speaking of Spectre, they were definitely the robot that robot combat needed. The hydraulic crusher that was finally able to take the reins from Razer. When I first saw their first battle, I thought to myself “this machine has to be the champion, I will not accept any other result”. They were a great machine to watch, and instantly became my favourite robot of all time before Quantum entered the scene.
The show wasn’t without its flaws, but rewatching the series on YouTube made me remember how impressive the show was for a first season. I highly recommend watching it if you haven’t already, I think it’s easily the strongest of all the shows’ first seasons.
In an ant weight robot, what do you do with the long floppy antennas that most receivers come with? Seems bad to leave them loose inside the chassis, but equally bad to have them exposed on the outside
With the recent reveal of Tombstone's FaceOffs design, I thought I'd make a poll asking you which Tombstone design is your favorite.
Since only 6 options are allowed I had to narrow the designs down.
Seasons 2 and 3 are grouped because it's the same frame with no discernible changes.
Season 4/re:MARS 2019/Season 5/Bounty Hunters
I grouped up re:MARS 2019, Season 5 and Bounty Hunters with Season 4 because they all use the frames that were built for that season and once again, there are no discernible changes. (I'm not counting the blades)
re:MARS 2022 isn't grouped with Season 6/Champions 1 because it has a shorter back, the shock mounted plates for Tombstone's wheels have been redesigned and the wheels are closer to the frame.
While the FaceOffs Tombstone uses the same frame as 2022, it's wheels have been brought forward which is enough to grant it it's own spot in the poll.
Hey, I'm a High School student, running a robotics club. We fight bots quite unsuccessfully at NHRL, and i'm trying to change that. The link below accesses the parts list and google drive with my .IPT files. Just want some opinions on my design!

My previous bot designs: A.J. and O.J. Which I fought at NHRL on the 27th.
Those were on one 4s 450mah 80c each, 20A drive ESCs, Repeat robotics brushless drive, 4mm weapon motor direct drive (They snapped immediately off). All red is TPU, black is ABS. Should have used paht-cf for the prongs and TPU for the dustpan. these 2wd bots stayed planted well but suffered from bad weapons systems. This was their failure. Also, in the future I'll probably add a front lifter to the fronts of the bots to allow for more complex attack strategy, These are assembled with m3 threaded rods through the entire robot.

Everyone has a favorite bot, but what's your favorite to just look at? Mine, is Switchback.
Hi! I'm a big fan of battlebots from when the show aired on netflix, unfortunatly i can't seem to find any streaming services that displays BattleBots (I live in Italy). would really like a helping hand.
The materials used in combat robots are often chosen for their toughness and durability in the battle box. Unfortunately that means they are often a pain to fabricate and modify, because again they are very tough.
My baby mill cries when I bring Ar500 into the shop. My tiny lathe hides under the bench. But the grinder? It laughs and tears through material. Unfortunately I'm not a steady hand, and the wibbly wobbly shows in the results.
So. I think I want a X/Y/Z manual motion system of some kind, that attaches to a beefy bench grinder? Something so I can bevel a whole batch of forks consistently. Or contour a fat wedge. Or take the nasty impact marks out of a weapon blade, and restore the rake angle.
Surely there's a standard machine that does such things? I'd rather not have to design my own. (I'm a big fan of buying used whenever possible... Such a great value!). Sort of like a valve grinder? Or an endmill grinder?
Maybe I'm over complicating this, and the real answer is fixtures for a surface grinder? (that's one of the last 'real' tools my shop is missing.... But I just have zero space left).
This tournament was filmed before season seven yet they keep acting like it’s brand new
Saw this in a post a WHILE ago. Was this just a thing they tried or is this how it'll be looking going forward?
Hi!
I'm trying to build a 3lb bot with 4wd, My design philosophy is belts are stupid: Direct drive weapon and 4wd.
Previous bots i've built are all 2wd, just want the good tracking of a 4wd bot. I currently have FS-i6X with the 6 ch receivers. Any ideas?
I'm using brushless drive with the PalmBeachBots gearmotors.
The Robot Fighting League Switzerland got just recently founded in February and held it's first Tournament yesterday, and the first official Tournament in Switzerland at all (to my knowledge). It was a small 150g Antweight Event with about 8-9 Participants and 16 Bots in total.
And I've won :P
We will try to organize semi-regular events starting with next year, planned are about 4 Tournaments yearly ranging from 150g Antweight, 450g AntweightXL up to 1.5kg Beetleweight. For the time being only Antweights as the Arena needs to be reinforced for Beetleweight (which isn't cheap). We also organize bot building courses for complete beginners, but also for veterans to connect & exchange knowledge. We are a primarily a german speaking community, but most speak english too ;) You can find more information and a discord link on the official webpage.
There will be some Videos and more Pictures at some point, after we've compiled all the stuff we captured ;)
