I am a non-native English-speaking student, and I can speak and communicate fairly well, as evidenced by my success in my studies. However, I’ve recently started noticing that other students and professors don’t always understand what I’m saying. How can I improve my communication skills, especially when there’s no one to correct me? Any suggestions?
I got waist listed. what grades should I get first (and second) semester of senior year? currently have b’s and two c’s (ap classes)
Hello, as the title states, I live in Indiana and have my entire life. My FAFSA is registered that I live in Indiana, my mailing address on the ball state portal is my house, where I live, In Indiana. I am also currently attending another university in Indiana, but would like to transfer out to ball state in january. But when I applied for aid, the ball state portal says I am out of state and so they sent me a financial aid offer that was almost double the price. I emailed them and they told me to fill out the residency form and email it to them. Is there any way I can just prove to them that I live here and it must have been a mistake on their end? The form requires a lot of information about money and my parents and all of that because the ball state people made a mistake? Is there someone I can email to take care of this?
I keep seeing a bus that has some text along the lines of “Limousine Service” and I don’t know what it’s for. It stops at nearly every bus stop along Ball State’s main road, but I have no clue where it goes or what it’s specifically for.
Hello everyone, I have gone over housing options with my family and I have decided on a Tier 2 Single Room. Any idea what it looks like? Then, does Bot/Swin have any? Also, what are the chances that I can get one? Thanks!
Beside HIST 150 has anyone taken any 300 level history courses or completed the history minor? I don't have a minor, but I only need to take three more courses to complete it.
Hey I'm new at ball state and I don't understand how to make the MITS bus stop for you. I've had it drive past me 4 times now. I've even waved my arms for it and it still doesn't stop. I'm always at the same stop and it's a gamble whether it stops or not.
Hello! I am currently doing a research project for my ENG 104 class, and would love if some current Ball State students or staff would take a survey I made. All responses are anonymous. Thank you so much for your help!
New to the online Applied Behavior Analysis master’s program for Psychology. What professors do you all recommend? Any to avoid? RateMyProfessor’s isn’t much help. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
My daughter (let's call her Lyla) is a HS senior. We've made a list of all universities offering her chosen program, and in terms of the course plan and opportunities, Ball State is the best fit.
Lyla is quite social. She definitely needs her alone time, but she also thrives on interacting with her friend group. We are American but we live abroad. I will be on the other side of the world during her college years. I'm a single mom and Lyla has no siblings. We have family on the East Coast, West Coast, in Canada, and in the South, but we know no one in Indiana or anywhere near it. So making friends will be extremely important.
My concern is the lack of geographical diversity at Ball State. According to several college rating sites, 90% of Ball State students are from Indiana. Nothing wrong with that in itself, but I worry with students staying close to home that they might be attending in friend groups from HS and won't be open to new friends. Or I worry they might be wary of someone with a completely different background.
Lyla attended a monocultural school for a few years in middle school, and the best I can say is that it was not rewarding. I'm not suggesting that Indiana is a monoculture, but when everyone comes from the same place, sometimes people not from that place aren't readily accepted.
If you have attended Ball State, or if your child has, or if you work at Ball State, do you find that most kids maintain their friend groups from HS? Are the students curious about international students or students from out-of-state? Are "outsiders" embraced? I know that there's no definitive answer, but what is your impression and why?
I should also add that Lyla is biracial. Her father is from Africa and I am white. She is very comfortable around Asians having grown up in several Asian countries. How integrated is the student body?
Hello everyone! This year I am apart of Ball State University Dance marathon on the Productions Committee. As a part of BSUDM I am helping raising critical funds for all the children and families at Riley Hospital for children. BSUDM helps fund both the Magic Castle Cart, which helps bring toys and smiles to all the kids, and the Palliative Care Team which is the "live your best life" team. It is officially our biggest push day of the year, One Day for Change! We are fundraising for 26.2 hours all for the Riley kids. In honor of this day I have a goal of raising $500. If you are willing and able to support this amazing cause, you can do so by clicking the link below. Thank you in advance for all of your generosity.
If you can’t donate, please spread the link to those you know!!
Me and my girlfriend are trying to find someplace to move into in may 2025 because we don’t want to move back into our families homes over the summer. we’ve been trying to find places under 800$ a month not including utilities. does anyone have any recommendations for places close to campus? preferably pet friendly as well, but if not that’s okay. studio and 1 bedroom are good too.
I don't have a car because I can't afford one. I'm 20, a sophomore, and I'm concerned that I won't be able to get an internship because of my lack of transportation. I am also concerned because i don't have much to put on a resume because of my lack of transportation throughout my life.
Is this going to prevent me from going farther in my graphic design major? Is there any Ball State students without a car that can give me tips? Thank you
Hi, I'm an incoming student. How do I get my time ticket? Thanks
I don’t see any policy about not being able to mine crypto on campus, does anyone know if we can of not or if they have 0 rules about it?
Pretty much the title. I’m considering applying to be an RA for the 25-26 academic year, likely living in either Park (if I can get in) or somewhere in Noyer. I really like the look of the benefits but I don’t want it to take up all of my free time. For context, I’m a Graphic Design major (so I mostly work on projects and don’t spend all that long studying).
So is the job worth the pay/benefits? How much time do RA’s dedicate to their position?
I'm looking to get some input on the college overall especially for Bachelor of Social Work online track. I'm transferring from UCF where I'm in Clinical Psychology (hard asf I'm currently failing).
Has anyone had issues with their financial aid package and a double last name? My last name (ex. Gomez Rodriguez) is too long for the last name character limit. Ball State insists I can only submit my FAFSA with G as my middle initial and Rodriguez as my last name. The Social Security office couldn’t verify my information this way, so I submitted according to FAFSA instructions (as many characters as possible in last name section) and Ball State won’t accept it this way. I have absolutely no idea what to do now and I’m at my wits end trying to resolve this.
I am neurodivergent and have had various negative experiences here over my 4 years of undergrad. I’ve had faculty tell me that “due to my neurodivergence I may not be accepted into graduate school.” I have also been repeatedly ignored when asking for help and penalized for things related to my disabilities. I don’t feel very welcome nor supported on campus after these experiences. Does anyone else with disabilities feel this way about BSU? It’s super disappointing especially since our school claims to want diversity, yet they don’t support it.
Hi there. I'm asking this on behalf of someone I know who is a TC student. Is it unheard of to fail student teaching and having to repeat? If you have, can you tell me the process you had to go through? I've heard mixed things
Is the Ball state honors college worth it? I’ve heard from a lot of people that they really enjoyed it but would it be too much with a high credit hour major. I plan on doing architecture and was considering attending due to the scholarship opportunities. I’ve heard great things about it from some and terrible from others with high credit hours majors. Would someone who went through architecture or another similar work load major chime in on whether it’s too much?
I recently was accepted to ball state university. I applied for the Architecture program about a week an ago and was accepted about 6 days ago. How long does it take to get your decision back from ball state. I know they only take 190 kids roughly so I’m kinda getting antsy. I filled out everything in the portal except the main campus stuff like the enrollment deposit, emens scholarship, honors college invite, and self disclosure form.
What are some good clubs/organizations that you guys would recommend that I could join at any time? I'm looking to make some new friends and expand my circle.
Hi! It will only take 2 minutes! Please, college students, fill out this survey for my high school brother’s research project. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScGWS6VSmctT073J7_bjRKxTaMGcsA2XUQs1PZ48tMpYLt7sA/viewform
I’m a first year chemistry and nursing student here at Ball State and I am really struggling to meet anyone at all. Everyone seems to know people from high school or SMTH. Professors are great, university is nice and pretty, but I never meet any students who I click with or have a vibe with. I went to club meetings and callouts, I have been continuing to go, I talk to people in my classes. I have made zero progress and it’s making me want to transfer. It feels like what a lot of people say about the party school atmosphere is true(which I am not into), and it’s making me very sad. I have just need help understanding where I can find or how I can make friends.
This dude has to be one of the worst professors you could get. I’m serious it’s nightmare level shit from this dude DO NOT take his English class. He’s a complete jackass who assigns an insane amount of work and pretty much grades all of it based on word count and length. Not to mention, he essentially uses class time to fuck off and splits up everyone into groups for a whole hour and fifteen. Oh and of course if you don’t attend these complete wastes of time you’re docked 10 or 20 points.
I’m not a student, but I’m 22 and work close to campus. Do you have to be a student to live at places like varsity house or the haven?
I think as a 33-year-old with a family and a job sometimes I forget the benefits and savings that we can receive just for simply being a student and it can cause us to miss out on a lot of savings. Post a link or a suggestion of a student benefit that you are aware of that others may not be so we can all save together. Here’s mine 🙃 This for six month Amazon for young adults and students using their school email.
Worth it or a waste?
Long story short, twins both invited to apply who are both looking at CAP. Both early college students from high school, some honors classes from HS, both 3.75+ unweighted.
Anyone who is / was in Honors College want to give a ringing endorsement for them to do it or have some sagely advice?
