so ik that the UCs are test blind, but i have an award on my application that was partially awarded due to my ACT score being above their threshold. would it be ok to mention this in the award description?
Hi everyone,
I was planning to submit my UC application Sunday night (Dec 1st), the application is due December 2nd. I've heard a lot about the unreliability of the application and crashes in past years. How early do I have to submit? I'll finish all the coursework and questions by tonight, but want to be able to upload all my essays and activities. from a separate document Sunday night or, at latest, Monday morning. Is that okay? What steps can I take to make sure my application gets in?
context: ive gotten one B my entire hs career and have pretty solid rigor (12 APs) but im still second decile given how competitive my public school is (top 5 in cali, top 100 nationwide)
ik most selective schools only take t10% of classes, but are exceptions given to “feeders” and ultra competitive schools?
I was just scrolling through instagram and I see accounts like "yale_2029", "princeton_2029", "cornell2029_", and "duke2029_"
In these accounts, there are 500~1500 posts of people "who got in" for class of 2029 (with pictures ofc) and the description has their brief comments on who they are and how they are "committed"
Everything's featured by "IGOT !N" and apparently every account is "not affiliated with ___"
Is this next-level trolling? Did ED results come out for this many people?
I'm genuinely confused cause I've never heard of "IGOT !N" before 😭
Hey! So I've submitted the UC app and now I'm allowed to add my SAT score. I took the dSAT and I have section scores for reading and math (200-800). But, the UC app form for reporting the score also required test scores for reading, writing, and math (10-40) to submit. I'm under the impression that I simply don't have these scores. Am I mistaken about this? Where can I find my test scores?
Thanks :]
What are passion projects I could do that relate to law?
Hi, I attended a community college in Summer 2023 for dual enrollment. I was told not to list my courses because they aren't transferable in the A-G system, and instead list them as "Other coursework" in my activities section. But if I leave year blank, it says that there are errors. What should I do?
I reviewed my application a bunch of times and somehow forgot to mark “I took summer courses after this grade” for 9th, 10th, and 11th and just inputted my summer courses as normal ones. I also just found out that I have to input the online highschool that I took the courses in. Kinda panicking but also hoping it’s not a huge deal. Should I send the admissions people an email now or wait til January when they ask for an update on my grades? edit: this is for the UC app btw
I already submitted my A-G courses and realized I put my languages and performing arts classes all under G by mistake instead of E-F which means I didn't meet the E-F requirements. I've emailed all of them but ik they're not open rn and the deadline is on Dec 2. How screwed am I and will I get auto-rejected because of this stupid mistake?
for every single school i’ve been reusing the same 3 anecdotes over and over again 😭😭 i’ve run out of insightful content
You'll see people from t20s earning a median of 90k/year in STEM out of college, but I wonder why this is. Is it because most of these students have parents who are well off/connected and can help them land easy jobs, is it because the school prepared them, or is it because the students who go to these universities would earn this much out of any school because of the type of person they are? I have seen a mix of these three answers among counsellors, parents, alumni, ect. As someone who is not even remotely well-connected or wealthy, this is a question I have asked myself a lot and the answer very much determines if a school is a good fit for me or not. What are your guy's thoughts?
Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you have furthered this interest inside and/or outside of the classroom.
Does this prompt have to be about your major? I'm applying as a engineering major but have written about my deep interest in economics through competitions, classes, clubs, etc. I also highlighted how my interest in economics sparked my strengths in mathematics, data analysis, and the problem-solving mentality, which are also related to engineering.
Is this okay? Or should this prompt mainly focus directly around engineering related activities.
I was so surprised when I saw the 650 limit on common app but I did try to do some editing nanda got it down to 633 im not sure if I could do some more I feel as if the story would be hurt by it and I heard the closer you the word limit you are the worse is that true?
Hi!
I'm a junior and I've been looking at different schools and I'm stuck between a few, but am open to suggestions. Currently, the ones that I've been looking at are anything in California (I'm going to be applying to a couple schools down there), U of Austin, Umich, Georgia Tech, and RPI in Troy to major in Mathmatics/Applied physics. The biggest contenders right now are UofA, RPI, and a few different schools in Cali. Where would be best to get my education/where do you think has valuble resources. I want somewhere with a sense of communities and oppurutnies to meet new people, but don't want to sacrafice my major. Just wanted some advice!
I'm a current freshman at Williams College planning to major in Math. I'm hoping to go into finance/consulting/quant post-grad. I honestly love Williams, I've met amazing people and I think the environment of the college is perfect for me. However, my dream school in high school was Columbia (I was deferred ED, then waitlisted). Even though I'm very happy at Williams, would the potential career advantages of Columbia make it worth it to transfer?
I’ve been trying to write my essay for common app for WEEKS. It’s the day before December 1st which is the application deadline for a few colleges I’m applying to, and I basically have nothing. I’m not a super interesting person, and tbh I don’t want to write about my trauma in a college essay that will probably be seen by at least a few people. I’ve tried googling advice but it’s all the same bland answers. I’m just stuck and I hate it. I work a lot and my class schedule is full, so even without this roadblock I barely ever have time to sit down and put serious effort into this. I’m just so fed up
I reached the writtig part where it says "Personal essay" can I just put my college essay on there since it fits one of the 7 topics or do I have to write a whole new essay?
So I put treasurer/member of NHS as one EC (service projects, raising money, assisting in chapter purchases), but we just started this tutoring project that I assisted with getting started up and I tutor every week. So far I've tutored 4 students in math and will tutor every week. I don't have space in my first NHS listing, so should I add an additional activity for the tutoring thing or should I just combine it??
My mom has lived and worked in Texas since July. Me, my mom, and my sister live/work/go-to-school in California. Our taxes are under Texas I believe. Am I an in-state applicant for Texas? Or will I pay in-state tuition if I am accepted and enroll at a public Texas university?

Hii Im a little confused in the section on the Reccomendation and FERPA Common App Section. What do I do if I have no teacher reqs to add in that section? Do I skip the section entirely?
I'm a hs junior interested in wharton and have seen amongst people that got in from my region that they usually all "start something" (nonprofit/newspaper etc.). How common is it for wharton undergrad admits to have this EC on their app and would I be at an implicit disadvantage for not having one despite strong leadership and tenure in ECs, 4.0, 1550, and 15 APs?
On the admissions website, Harvard states that US citizens arent "advantaged or distaventaged" compared to an international student (and vice versa). They explicitly state citizenship is NOT a factor in admission.
Is there any truth to this, or is this simply a front that Harvard is putting up to attract international students? Will an accepted DOMESTIC student also get accepted had they applied as INTERNATIONAL? It seems Harvard is in line with the rest of HYPSM with about ~10% international, some of which seem to consider international status during admissions.
Due to advice from my brother, a UT student, I've realized I really need to put in more effort if I want to have a good application for the major I want. But I have no Idea where to start and I'm honestly a little anxious on what to do/where to start. Any advice?
on my common app i filled my ucs first and i didn’t know that you’re supposed to round up for grade levels on common app if u did something in the summer (so like for example, if i did something for 9th grade summer and then continued in 10th 11th and 12th) i selected 9,10,11,12. is this worth sending out to my colleges? it’s only for like 2 activities where this is the case but idk
Hi everyone.
Long-time lurker who's applying to college this year. I met some very powerful people and landed a very lucrative position working in the defense industry as a contractor at the beginning of the semester. I signed an NDA and will be purposefully vague in this post about what I do.
As a contractor, I played a key role in the development of a technology that fulfilled an order valued in the high seven figures. The technology that I developed will be directly used in war.
This is by far the most impact I've ever had in the real world, period. But the defense industry is an extremely touchy subject, so I'm curious if I should even list the experience at all. Do you guys have any advice as to how this can be perceived?
applied to a very competitive ed1 school - any suggestions for ed2? i genuinely don’t care where i go as long as its well regarded. some choices are, BU, northeastern, emory, and nyu. any other reccs?
This might sound like a stupid question but I honestly need a for sure answer. I applied to 4 schools for early action and just now realized one the schools was the wrong school (long story) I need to submit an app for the right school but from normal decision, will this be okay or am I gonna be in trouble?
Thanks
Title. Can a student of accepted to both, be in both when they start as a freshman undergrad?
some of the colleges I applied to early(like duke) require "counselor letters of recommendation", but my counselor just submitted a "counselor recommendation" (basically a school report i think)
do you guys think I should request her to write an LOR now even though the apps were submitted 3 weeks ago? or will it not matter that much?
thank uu
