I am going to go full dad mode and ask. Have you flushed your coolant and checked your fire extinguisher?
Tuweep/Toroweap Area in Grand Canyon National Park - photo by Michael Quinn
From Grand Canyon National Park News Release:
GRAND CANYON, Ariz. — Grand Canyon National Park will implement a new pilot advance day-use ticket reservation system for the Tuweep Visitor Use Area, July 21, 2022. Park staff are managing for significant and steadily increasing visitation at Tuweep since 1995, along with limited park staffing in the area, ongoing vehicle safety, and natural and cultural resource concerns.
There will be two types of reservations available. One ticket will be for private vehicles and the other will be for authorized Tuweep tour Commercial Use Authorization (CUA) permit holders. The day-use reservation system will apply to the Tuweep area of Grand Canyon National Park, including all park areas within Toroweap Valley and on the Kanab Plateau. It excludes the North and South rim developed areas and overlooks.
Reservations to enter the Tuweep area will go on sale through Recreation.gov at 10 a.m. ET on Tuesday, July 5. The day-use vehicle tickets will cost $2. Visitors must also possess a valid park entrance pass. Two CUA and six private vehicle ticket reservations will be available to reserve up to 120 days prior to a visit. Reservations for the remaining 12 private vehicle day-use tickets to enter the Tuweep area will be available to purchase two days prior and up to the day of a scheduled visit.
Visitors with a backcountry permit for overnight camping in the Tuweep area do not need to make a day-use reservation for their permit date(s). The pilot reservation system does not change existing policy for tribal communities’ ability to use their traditional homelands within park boundaries.
This pilot program will include monitoring and review of visitation patterns to make further adjustments, with the potential to raise the proposed day-use vehicle limit, implement a timed entry system, or other actions. This system will be adaptable to changes in visitation trends and commercial transportation patterns and used to enhance the overall visitor experience and improve public information resources.
The Grand Canyon National Park 1995 General Management Plan (GMP) was developed based on National Park Service (NPS) management policies and extensive public participation and input to preserve the character of Tuweep as an uncrowded, rustic, and remote experience that is dominated by nature and solitude. The GMP set a carrying capacity of 30 vehicles or 85 visitors in the Tuweep area. The NPS selected roadside signs and other information sources to achieve this limit, and if unsuccessful, the GMP outlines that a reservation system may be required.
The intent of the pilot day-use reservation system is to facilitate the management of the carrying capacity set for the Tuweep area. Housing the reservation system on Recreation.gov will enable visitors to easily secure reservations online and plan a safe visit to this remote location by reading the Tuweep preparation material.
Hello I own a ford raptor that has mainly been a pavement princess, I’ve done light off roading with it Reddington Pass outside of Tucson easy things like that, I’m looking to get more into it maybe go out to camp sites or trails, Amy recommendations in the general Tucson area would be appreciated!
We will be taking a family vacation to the Page, AZ, and Grand Canyon areas in a few weeks. Renting a JEEP from the PHX Enterprise for the week and staying in Airbnb homes. Looking to do some easier trails (safe for a rental) in that area. Any resources or tips are greatly appreciated. Visiting from TN
I have a set of 4 Raceline Havoc 925 wheels with Nitto Ridge Grappler tires. Tires are 35x12.5x18 and are near the end of their life. Wheels are 18x9 with a 5x150 bolt pattern. Looking to sell locally. I went back down to 16’s with 33’s and need to unload these.
Hey All, I am thinking of taking a trip out to Wilbanks Cabin. Anyone been out there lately? Are you still allowed to stay the night there? All the info I can find is about 7 years old. Is the well dry, of course I will have more the enough water on me, but would be nice to know going in if there is a good well.
Thinking about checking out Bulldog Canyon this weekend. Has anyone been lately? Any recommendations? I have the pass that seems to be required, printed and ready to roll.
Have a PowerTank and need to get it refilled. I know Phoenix Welding downtown can do it, but hoping for something north/ central valley?
Considering doing the El Camino trek in mid-November. I've been to Cabeza Prieta once (Charlie Bell pass area), but never done the El Camino before. I am thinking we will do it in two days, starting from Tucson, with one night of camping. My buddy has a Willys, and I'm in a Subaru Forester (don't laugh!)
Any issues or concerns with the trail at this time? Any advice or guidance? Have been studying the TrailsOffRoad guide, have the GPS track downloaded to GaiaGPS, etc.
My coworkers and I are going to do an overlanding trip to go collect some trash from Table Mesa West. The drive was pretty easy but the trash was all over the place. We're thinking of taking Table Mesa East back to Cave Creek and end at a brewery.
Any big obstacles in to be aware of when it comes to TME? Will stock Tacoma's and Subaru Forrester's be able to handle it?
I feel like AllTrails and Jeep both recommend doing Schnebly Hill from Highway 179 to I-17. Is it possible to do it the other way? So starting from I-17 and ending in Sedona?
PS First time off roading in a long time. Very excited. We're going to start the day with Table Mesa on the way up.
Hey guys, looking to do a bilstien lift with new tires, maybe new wheels on my 2019 ram (new body)
Could someone recommend an honest/good shop to get the work done? Preferably on the north side of the city but willing to travel to work with good people.
Also, if anyone wants to talk shop on my lift build, I have many questions and would love some feedback on the best way to go. Im looking to get enough clearance for moderate off roads, mainly for camping/hunting access
Thanks!
Anyone have any good recommendations (possibly local) for a 2 stroke expansion pipe repair? Big dent and bent at the motor side.
My wife just recently got into Overlanding and we are trying to find good dispersed camping locations in Northern AZ. We have a lifted Toyota 4Runner so we are able to get to most places. Would any of you be willing to share your secret spots with us?
Hello! Does anyone know if the FS road to Four Peaks is open, or is it still closed? Thanks!
We just got a rzr this year and definitely don’t want to keep it stationary, but, so far, we’ve had to travel at least 2 hours. I was just wondering if there were any closer trails near the area to skip the planning and scheduling for the day.
Anyone know what the current condition of the trail is like? I've never been and have read that there is one obstacle without a bypass that might bust my vehicle up.
Anyone make it up this trail on something similar?
Thanks!
A few months ago I saw a handful of Jeeps meeting up at a Speedway Gas station at Magee and Oracle, I didn’t have time to stop and say hi but I would like to get in contact with them. Does anyone have any info on future meet ups there at that speedway?
Hey folks! Trying to plan some fun things to do in Payson, AZ for my vacation. I've got a pretty much stock 04 toyota highlander, it's got all terrain tires and AWD. So are there any relatively easy offroading trails that a small AWD suv can do near Payson? Also, any roads that lead to some spectacular spots? Waterfalls, lakes, etc? Thank you in advance guys!
