Veganism: "A philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals." - The Vegan Society

Looking for Easy meals while traveling

I am traveling full time while house sitting and occasionally Airbnb.

I prefer to eat at home but it's really hard to figure out when I'm constantly traveling.

I'd like to make enough for 2-3 days at most without having to throw so much food away.

Looking for some easy meals to make for one person. I'm okay eating it two days in a row.

Carrying food everywhere is not working as it spoils too quickly. Thanks!

Peruvian Vegan - Lima and Cusco

Hi! I’m traveling to Lima and Cusco and wanted to know if anyone has tried Peruvian cuisine (vegan, ofc) in Lima or Cusco? I’ve never tried authentic Peruvian cuisine before so would love some recommendations for restaurants. If anyone has had street food that is vegan, that works too!

Restaurants visited during road trip to Nevada and California

About a month ago, my girlfriend and I went to Vegas for a week, then on a road trip finishing in San Francisco. Here are all the places we went to in our time out there...

Vegas, NV

  • Nacho Daddy (omni, close to the Strip, decent range of food, 7/10)

  • Ronald's Donuts (mostly vegan, absolutely amazing, 10/10)

  • The Modern Vegan (we went there twice, loads of amazing options - sandwiches, salads, mains etc, 9/10)

  • Evelpie Pizza (omni, a few vegan options, but massive pizzas that taste great, 8/10)

  • Grand Lux Cafe (omni, good quality food, but not loads of vegan options (7/10)

  • Tacotarian (completely vegan, lots of different protein options, soft(er) tacos are better, 8/10)

  • Yard House (omni, very limited vegan options (we were there with family), 6/10)

  • Chef Kenny's (completely vegan, great range of Asian dishes, 9/10)

- We didn't get to try Tarantino's, No Butcher or Crossroads, but heard really good things about them

Bakersfield, CA

  • Indian Village Vegetarian Kitchen (ended up going here after we arrived too late for our other restaurant, quite a few vegan options, really good curries, 8/10)

Fresno, CA

  • La Jacka (completely vegan, we went there twice, crunchy wraps, burritos and fries were all amazing, 9/10)

  • Batter Up Pancakes (omni, most of the options on the menu have the option of being made vegan, 7/10)

  • Planet Vegan (completely vegan, decent burgers and fries, 8/10)

Modesto, CA

  • TNK Vegan Cafe (completely vegan, sandwiches, Asian-style mains, plus cake, 8/10)

San Francisco, CA

  • Wildseed (completely vegan, so many different mains (we both had great pizzas), 9/10)

  • Beach'N (completely vegan, really good breakfast burritos, 9.5/10)

  • Thai Idea (mostly vegan, so many mains sounded amazing, shame we were only there once, 9/10)

All in all, we ate really well while we were out there, and I'd recommend any of these (exclusively vegan) places, and most of the omni places rated 7 or higher. Hopefully this helps someone out in the future :)

Where is your favorite vegan quiche in Berlin?

I find it impossible to find vegan quiche in my city but in June I will be in Berlin, and they have lots of vegan cafés and bakeries. Tell me about your favorite quiche or savory tart in Berlin and where to find it.

If you have recommendations for other savory pastries feel free to share those as well.

Vegan guided tours for Japan

Hi r/vegan_travel,

My parents are vegetarian/vegan and kind of inexperienced travellers outside of their home country (India). They've expressed great desire to go to Japan but have always been deterred by two things (1) food (2) language barrier.

I want to get them a tour package for their big anniversary milestone!

As they're inexperienced travellers, I'm looking to find tours that have a set itinerary wgile also taking care of the food aspect of things.

Do folks here have any recommendations for a guided multi-day tour that is vegan friendly? My reddit search for this didn't yield much and Google is just sponsored ads, so I'm not even sure whats a reliable search result.

Thank you so much!

Things to do in Mykonos?

Travelling to Mykonos soon and staying at Koukoumi (the vegan hotel). Would love to know about any day trips that were "vegan friendly" - i.e. winery tours, catamarans, day clubs, etc. that were accommodating if snacks/meals were included.

Also, if you stayed at Koukoumi, is it worth getting full board, half board, or breakfast only? Any input would be great.

Recommendations for las Azores and mainland Portugal

I’m thinking about visiting Portugal later this year and can see most of the posts are about a year old (or more). I’m interested in going to las Azores (Açores) particularly São Miguel island to do some biking/hiking/enjoying time in nature. The one place which was often recommended on São Miguel, Rotas da Ilha Verde, google says is closed “temporarily” but I can’t see anything on their socials about that so perhaps that’s wrong. I’ll definitely visit mainland Portugal too (likely Lisboa and Oporto).

Anyone been to las Azores recently or have any recommendations for the mainland cities?

I booked an over night stay at Monistrol de Montserrat, a monestary in the countryside near Barcelona. I forgot about the whole needing to eat part of being alive and now I'm seeing Happy Cow and Google are giving zero results. Looking for tips

Tips on eating vegan in the less populated parts of Spain. I could bring ziplock bags of nuts or something from Barcelona where I'm stayin for 4 nights before coming out here, but not so sure how long that'll really last me.

I guess a lot of dry sandwiches and a pile of fruit might need to be brought along.

Honestly would love to share with everyone this list. I've gotten dozens of requests and I am so happy to provide them!

If you need any company, I am happy to accompany you to eat some great vegan food too here in NYC!

Portuguese phrases

¡Bom dia!

I'm going to be staying on the southern coast of Portugal at Praia Da Rocha which I guess is in Portimao for a week in a few days and have some questions about how to get by as a vegan. I know I could use Google translate or something but I think someone is more likely to understand and would appreciate more if I ask in the way a Portuguese person would. If anyone could help me I'd greatly appreciate it.

I know the town I'm staying in has a vegan restaurant in so that's a good start. But I'll be with other non-vegans most of the time so will want to get food in other restaurants or shops.

How should I ask if a restaurant has vegan options in Portuguese? How about if an item on a menu is vegan?

Will most places have Oat milk or an alternative for coffee? How can I ask for/order this?

I will be in bars most nights so it would be nice to know how to ask what brand of spirits a bar serves so I can check if it's Vegan. How can I ask this?

If there are any other phrases you think I should learn please let me know.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Southern Germany / Normandy France

We are going to Germany to visit wife’s extended family and France to see my extended family in May. We are the only one that’s vegan. My wife thinks it will be really difficult to find vegan food during our trips especially out in rural areas. It will be our first international trip together as a vegan. We’ve been vegan for 7 years. The places we will be visiting; I'll check happycow, but any outside tips would be helpful. What did you usually eat from grocery store, we're prepared to eat lots of peanut butter/ Jelly sandwich.

Germany: roughly 11 days

Fly in Frankfurt

Stuggart (family in this area)

Rothenberg

Munich

Bavarian alps

Fussen

Cologne

St. Goar

Berg Eltz

Baden-Baden

France: about 6ish days

After Baden-baden:

Head towards Orleans (my family town)

North to Normandy area

Then fly out Paris

Any tips or thoughts in those areas?

Help Us in Making Vegan Living Effortless in the UK for locals/travellers

Hi everyone,I am the co-founder of Ganddee, a sustainable lifestyle app. Think of it as the Google Maps for sustainable places. While other platforms promote new green products, we believe that sustainable consumption should also include vegan shops, second-hand shops, charity shops, rental places, etc., in addition to sustainable new products. We feature around 2,000 physical stores and hundreds of online businesses in the UK, some offering special discounts. We have a special discount from vegan stores like MuLondon, Wild Cosmetics and many more.
I would love to receive feedback on the app and would be grateful if you could suggest any vegan stores online/physical in the UK. We have been relying on our community to suggest new places and inspire each other. All the suggestions can be done through app.
If you are a owner of a vegan store, I would love to connect and explore how I can help you reach a wider audience.
