Suggestions for wedding anniversary trip?

My wife and I will be staying in Vail for 5 days at the end of October. We are foodies, love walks/hikes and enjoy being outdoors. Any suggestions of things to do or places to check out? Thanks!

Music fans

I am planning to move to Avon end of this year/ beginning of next. Just wondering if there is a good amount of music fans and live music to be enjoyed out there. Don’t want to have to travel to Denver every time I want to see a show.

Hibachi service in Vail 10/19

Hello! So my bachelorette is coming up in less than two weeks. We had booked Rockstar Hibachi but they just cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. We were all looking super forward to this & now are short on time to figure out an alternative. Does anyone have any recommendations or other hibachi places? This will be for 10/19 & we will have chefs inside.. we are staying 5 miles from the village. Thank you so much.

Longest Chairlift at Vail?

What is the longest Chairlift at Vail in terms of how long it takes to get from the bottom to the top? I tried looking this up online but for some reason couldn’t quite find the stats I wanted.

Hi, I recently accepted a ski instructing position for the winter, but have purchased a Local Epic Pass prior. I am wondering if I will receive reimbursement for the expense upon onboarding?

Appropriate Vehicle?

Hello all,

I’m planning to get a short term lease for the winter in Vail / surrounding areas or perhaps Crested Butte. Some friends of mine mentioned that I would need a big 4x4 vehicle. Currently I drive a hybrid car lol. I work remote so commuting day to day isn’t an issue for me so I wouldn’t be worried about occasional heavy snowfalls making the roads bad, but my friends said Colorado often just leaves the snow on the roads because it’s just so constant. I’m coming for the skiing / snowboarding. My question I suppose is would I be fine taking my prius on main roads to get to ski resorts / grocery stores, or do I need to invest in a bigger vehicle for a few months?

Thank you everyone for any advice you offer.

private vs group ski lesson for intermediate adult

Hi! I'll be spending a week in Vail this winter and I'm hoping to improve my skiing. I've skied Vail in the last couple of years and have enjoyed doing lot of the blue runs in the front of the mountain. However, I've never ventured in black runs or back bowls, and feel that I'd want to take a lesson or two with an instructor before venturing on my own. Would you recommend I do a private lesson? Or should I go for a group lesson? The cost for private is very expensive so I'd probably do only a half day (it's about $1200). On the other hand, group lessons are much cheaper and I'd be able to do several half days. Any advice?

LGBTQ+ friendly bars?

Are there any designated ones in area? If not, which one is the friendliest for me and my partner? Or the best place to meet other LGBTQ+ people?

Red and White Mountain - lost flannel

I was camping up on Red and White Mountain this weekend and accidentally left my favorite flannel (very dumb move) at one of the sites we stopped by off of red and white mountain trail. It’s a simple Eddie Bauer flannel, but it carries a lot of sentimental value. Great for all occasions. I already miss it.

We were up by waypoint 9 that is also on Red and White Mountain Trail. I believe the exact coordinates are 39.69932° N, 106.52322° W.

Does anyone go up there often? I don’t have my own vehicle that I could get up there but if anyone is planning on riding that trail and were to find my flannel you would be the ultimate hero.

Early season skiing-vail or BC?

Have a chance to take a free early season trip mid December and stay in either vail or BC. Just my husband and I and we prefer not to bus between the two even though I know it's easy.

I know lots of terrain won't yet be open- so is it generally better to ski vail early since there's more terrain to begin with? Or is it going to be basically same?

We generally ski blacks/ steeper blues

Ski School Structure?

I’m going to be putting my 4 year old in ski school this season and I’m trying to figure out what exactly the structure/schedule of it even is (beyond the start and end time).

This would be his first lesson ever, so total beginner.

Anyone know what a typical full or half day looks like? I assume they’re spending a good amount of time indoors, but I have no idea. Just curious to know what to expect for him.

Visit early October

We will be in Evergreen, Co visiting from the East Coast in about a week. It looks like the scenic gondola will be closed by the time we get there, but wondering if it is worth the trip (1.5hrs) to Vail and if that is considered a down season or if shops/restaurants will be open.

We are interested in some shorter 3ish mile hikes that aren't to difficult and generally just checking out the views and maybe grabbing something good for lunch. Worth it if we would only have a few hours there?

Picking up my lift pass this month and ready to rip it.

Vail in January with young kids

Going in January with my kids (5, 3) and we've never skied. I plan to do 2 days of ski school but I think any more will be pushing it for everyone (myself included lol). What are suggestions to do for one day not on the slopes? We aren't planning on having a car so we'll have to use the hotel transportation to town.

Looking for closed restaurant name.

My friend is trying to remember the name of a restaurant that served game in Vail village. It was an A frame building. She was there back in the 80s. Any ideas?

Leaf Peepin Camping Ideas

Hello. Coming from SW Colorado (Durango-Silverton-telluride area) for a doc appointment next week. Thinking I might stay the night and do some dispersed camping. Where I’m at the colors are firing right now so hoping to find some colors.

I’m in an Xterra so good with moderate off roading. Really, really trying to stay away from people. Any ideas or just places to start looking? I have not spent much time near Gail.

P.S. I work for a partner with the USFS as a trail ambassador. I promise LNT is always #1 priority, #2 is responsible sharing of places. So DM’s are open if you don’t wanna post it.

7 Day Trips

Me and my girlfriend are planning to go to Denver and Vail by next January. We haven't seen snow directly in our life so we would like to have some run.

Was planning to land on Denver first to enjoy a few days and then head to Vail. What do you think we should take? A bus? Or rent a car? We've never driven a snowy road before so it'll be our first time.

And also any recommendations on where to go and what to do?

Hello! I will be bringing my mother/sister on a short trip (4 days) in mid October. We are staying at Park Hyatt Beaver Creek and we have a car. I know it’s off season and won’t be booming, but any recommendations on activities or things to do/see?

Thanks! 😊

How to get a pass to go up the gondola without skiing?

My wife doesn’t ski and would like to take the eagle bahn up to watch our son in ski school up there on an upcoming trip.

I have no clue how to go about getting a pass like this for the gondola…what’s the best course of action? Do they offer some sort of non-skier pass?

Where to eat and drink

A friend of mine and I are coming in for a couple nights from Denver. Our hotel seems really nice (Somnenalp). There’s a hot tub 😘. My goals are drink, eat trendy but good food, hot tub. This is all I want from Vail. Can you guys tell us where we might have pre-dinner drinks, where to eat, and something that involves more heated water? Also, can I get dressed up?
