Let's look back at some memorable moments and interesting insights from last year.

Hello everyone, I am a current student, fourth year to be exact, am writing to prospective students and their parents/guardians about the recent events in Grinnell. You deserve to know. Although Grinnell prides itself on social justice, diversity, and academics, there are major systemic issues here that will greatly impede with your education here. Racism on campus and off campus has gotten worse and worse over my four years here. Currently, students’ cars and college property is being vandalized with racial slurs and threats. Black students and other students of colour get harassed but not only a select group of townspeople but also by their fellow students. By harassed, I mean they are experiencing racial slurs being hurled at them at college events and and a truck with a confederate flag often comes through campus to yell at students as well. Additionally, micro aggressions are rampant in the classroom. Grinnell has a reactionary approach to all the things stated. Administration does not hold racist students accountable what so ever and blames people of colour. Secondly, there have multiple suicide attempts and unfortunately one student died by suicide yesterday. Rather than addressing this issue, all Grinnell did was send condolence emails and told students to talk to counselors. Professors were encouraged to cancel class or hold space for traumatized students but many didn’t. Life at Grinnell resumed as usual while students are having to come to terms with the fact that their friend has died. Some professors even chastised students for missing class because of this horrific event. This institution cares more about academic rigor than students’ mental health. This has proven to be dangerous and will continue to cost lives. Grinnell is broken and students here are rapidly declining in their well-being.
Thank You So much :)
Hi! I’m doing a school project to explore how college students buy or resell furniture, and would love to hear perspectives from people in this group. Help us by answering a few questions https://forms.gle/MwDkDNi47mXPwoQ3A, thanks!
How is Grinnell for Physics/Astrophysics. Is it good for those who want to attend grad school?
This might be a rlly dumb question so sorry but I signed up for an online event (Zoom meeting) on early decision, not a 1 on 1 meeting but a general thing, and then I completely forgot about it and didn't join the meeting. I provided my name and email when I registered, so is it possible that Grinnell will keep that information and consider that I missed a meeting when I apply?
Heyy I'm most prob gonna apply ED to Grinnell this year but I'm worried about the social life a bit since I'm more of a city person. Is there much to do outside the college?? Like malls, coffee shops etc.? And do interesting events happens within the college??
Thanks!
My daughter is finalizing her list of schools to apply to, and Grinnell would be right at the top if it weren't for the Iowa factor. She's pretty sure the campus environment would be accepting of a trans student, but is understandably nervous about most of the rest of the state.
I know Grinnell is small, but: is there a trans community there? Is it thriving? Is it safe?
Thanks in advance...
Grinnell values demonstrated interest a lot. Recently, I have been mailing the international admission counselor regarding some general mails like ''How's entrepreneurship ecosystem at Grinnel" & "How to opt for in-person interviews" What else can be done or asked?
Thanks a lot 😀
Hi,
I'm entering my 2nd year and see myself using a bike this year, but I would not like to buy a new one.
does anyone have a bike that they don't want to use and that I can buy?
gracias
Heyy! I am an international student and am strongly considering applying to Grinnell but I am a little concerned about making friends since its such a small college and I am not the most extroverted person. So would it be possible to lmk how easy is it to integrate. Also could I have some more information about the quality of the Career Advisory Services here. Thksss
Hi there, I'm coming to Grinnell this fall and have been assigned to a "mini co-op" with three other people. I can't find any resources on the website about the living situation in one of these. Does anyone know what these rooms look like? I was just wondering if people have semi-seperate spaces or all four people sleep in the same room. I saw they have their own bathrooms (and maybe kitchens) but I don't know anything about the layout of the room otherwise. Any details would be appreciated.
Title. Thanks in advance
Hi guys,
I want to communicate with any Egyptians at Grinnell as I want to apply to it ED and I have some questions.
Hi guys, I am a senior and I want to apply ED for Grinnell. I want to double major in physics and fine arts. I am an international student and I will apply for a huge amount of aid, probably an EFC of 2k. would it be hard for me to get in or should I apply to another college? also what about fine arts major there?
Basically the title. My family can't afford to spend more than 10K per year on my education. If I'm a qualified applicant (>3.8 GPA, decent honors, test scores, etc.), but nothing exceptional, do I have a chance at getting in?
Hey everyone! I'm here because I am thinking about applying to Grinnell for this upcoming admission cycle. I currently have 20 colleges on my list and am trying to narrow it down to around 10-12. I have limited knowledge of Grinnell and would like to hear from current students about their time there. If possible, could some people give me an honest pro and con list on the different aspects of the college? You can discuss anything — weather, academics, social life, athletics, or dining. I am planning on registering for information sessions but would like the information not given at info sessions. Thank you so much for your help!
Hi there,
The billing agreement form provided for new students asks if they permit Grinnell to use so called “federal title IV financial aid funds” for prior year tuition, fees, room etc charges ….
I’m unsure how I should answer this question as I was under the impression that said fund were only given to US citizens? Is this the case or are international students also given federal tittle IV funds?!
Thanks in advance
Throwaway for obvious reasons.
Since I have a lot of sex, I figured I should get tested after reading about the recent syphilis outbreaks on Reddit. Went to the place, wanked in a cup, the whole shabang. The guys said they would call me, but that night I dropped my phone in the toilet so I no longer have access to my number. Anyone know how I can get my results without having access to my number?
EDIT: I just found a number of suspicious sores and I have a rash on my palms. I'm really worried...what should I do?
Basically title. Just caught syphilis in the latest campus outbreak. Went to donate plasma today, turns out you can't if you have an active syphilis infection! I usually use the cash they give me to finance my cigar addiction but now I can't donate for 8 weeks! I also got in a heated exchange with the nurse at the clinic and they threatened to ban me for life.
What should I do? I'm not sure how I'm going to make it 8 weeks without my luxury cigars and I don't like working so can't earn money any other way. Does anyone know how you can hide an active syphilis infection from the blood tests they use? Maybe I should try drinking a few gallons of water before my next visit?
Thanks for your help guys,
u/grinnellrepublican, signing off
I just got it from my friend Deric's golf clubs. Seems there is an outbreak on campus. Check your pustules people!
Hi, I'm a committed incoming student for the class of 2026. The more research I do, and post visits etc, the more concerned I'm becoming about the political climate. While I'd say my actual beliefs are generally pretty left-wing, I'm critical of a lot of aspects of the social justice movement and definitely have some libertarian leaning views. My beliefs aren't particularly extreme, but I hold them pretty strongly and I'm starting to get the impression that because of that I'm unlikely to be successful in making friends here, potentially to the point where I should try and consider another path for higher education because being friendless in the middle of nowhere for 4 years would be miserable. On a similar note, I'm worried I will not be able to express my views openly without risking teachers treating my work more aggressively or giving me lower grades for pieces of the same quality as a more traditionally left-wing student's. Is there anyone on this sub who's anything other than left-wing and pro-social justice, and if so how are you doing, or how are you expecting to do?
Is the show at Harris next Thursday only for Grinnell students? Jubilee was my favorite album from last year so I'd love to go, but I'm a uiowa student.
im thinking about ed-ing grinnell for the upcoming fall, and im curious to see the stats/extracurriculars that students have to get in this school. please lmk!
