Need help improving my topic research tool

I have been playing around autocomplete suggestions on google, youtube and etsy to find out market gaps in content around couple therapy. I found myself typing the same queries regarding the topic again and again on each of these platforms. I created a tool to do the repetetive search for each keyword across multiple platforms, but I still feel that the suggestions don't always give usable insights. I have used answerthepublic and that has the same issue, the queries are always static.

Are there any hacks that are there which make researching about a topic easier? Specifically related to using google autocomplete for research.

PS- you can take a look at the tool here - https://www.searchpatterns.cc/. Just an heads up that it's far from being polished.

How do I fix broken XHR resources preventing Search bots from successfull Rendering?

Hi there!

I'm in a situation where I am not sure how to fix broken XHR files on a page which are very likely the culprit preventing Googlebot from rendering a page.

https://preview.redd.it/zcxnjovszdyc1.png?width=719&format=png&auto=webp&s=ed3b5e288b9fca35d9a2f3ca926180548933c904

As you can see, the initiator passes through mpulse and then generates the XHR requests returning HTTP 302 redirect.

These are the other errors from the inspection tool in GSC

The screenshot showcases a blank page instead of the full page with a video above the fold.

Thanks!

How do I enhance homepage visibility through internal linking strategies?

I am a creative professional with a basic understanding of SEO, I’m working on a website that now boasts around 600 pages. Despite outperforming local competitors in various SEO metrics like DR, DA, and PA, I'm finding it difficult to rank for local keywords (Eg. related to specialty coffee shops).

To address this, I've heavily invested in creating local themed content, including comprehensive reviews of boutique coffee shops, which perform well on their own. However, these efforts have not translated into increased visibility for my homepage as expected. Interestingly, the pages that rank the highest are often unrelated to the local content or are using tactics that are not clear to me.

The dilemma I face involves the strategic placement of internal links - should these detailed reviews direct readers straight to my homepage, or should they point to another internal article without linking back to the homepage? I have tried emulating the backlink strategies of competing pages, targeting their keywords, and using tools like SurferSEO for content optimization, but these methods have not yielded the desired results. This situation is confusing, especially since my site appears to be technically superior to competitors who achieve better rankings.

I would appreciate recommendations on refining my internal linking strategy, a friend recommended the Crawl Spider plugin which seems to have worked well for them but would like to hear your opinion on this as well.

Crawled but not indexed - thing content page

Hey there!

quick question, in the search console I have a few pages that are crawled but not indexed. Most of these are thin content pages without a purpose.

Would it be enough to de-index them and remove them from the index?

Established Travel Site Struggling with Main Keyword Visibility

I'm diving deep into an intriguing challenge and could use some collective wisdom. I'm working with a unique travel agency's website based in Germany, a niche player and the only one focusing 100% on their specific area. They boast a solid foundation with 80+ targeted blog articles, a well-structured site, and a longstanding web presence. Despite these strengths, the website doesn't rank within the top 50 for its main keyword on Google.

I've exhausted conventional tools to diagnose issues: Search Console, Core Web Vitals, Ahrefs, and Screaming Frog have all been deployed without revealing significant problems. Everything is indexed appropriately, and there are no glaring usability issues. Yet, I'm left puzzled.

An anomaly that caught my eye is the volume of CSS within the header when inspected via the URL Inspector in Google's Search Console. Approximately 70% of the rendered HTML comprises CSS, thanks to their use of the Astro framework and Tailwind CSS. While none of the tools explicitly flagged this as an issue, could this be a factor in their poor SERP performance?

Has anyone encountered a similar situation where excessive inline CSS affected a site's rankings, or could there be an undetected technical error or penalty at play here? Any insights or diagnostic tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and expertise!

GSC: homepage is not served over https

So in Google search console, under HTTP settings it shows that I have 169 HTTPS URLs and 0 NON-HTTPS URLs. Yet when I inspect my homepage, it says "page is not served over HTTPS". When I inspect any other page, this error goes away. I've scanned the source code of the homepage and I don't see any mixed use of HTTP and HTTPS URLs. I have no clue what would cause this. Is it likely that the property is corrupt and should I deleted it start a new one or is there any other tool that I can use and check to see why this is happening? Thanks.

Accessibility: Hard Coding H2 Tags & Font Size?

Can hard coding the heading tag and/or the font size have negative affects on accessibility?

For blog posts on a WordPress site, we typically use the dropdown style menu to select the style (H1, H2, paragraph, etc.) that affects the heading tag as well as the font size. On occasion, an SEO partner we work with has been changing the code to H2 and overriding the font size - while leaving the selector the same. I recall seeing issues with this years ago when it came to accessibility via semantic structure and compatibility with assistive technologies - affecting the hierarchy of content/page jumps while using readers as well as by using the dropdown menu to select headings, you ensure that these accessibility-friendly styles are applied consistently. It seems their goal with doing these changes is to use the dropdown to select H2, and change the code to override the font size associated with the H2 <h2 style="text-transform: none; font-size: 16px;">

https://preview.redd.it/cnenpnlzd0yc1.png?width=468&format=png&auto=webp&s=1a49ce038217fb455e3ddca6eda887bbf3dcccec

Can any of this lead to accessibility issues or other issues?

Rendering Issue in Google Search Console

I'm facing a peculiar rendering issue with a client's website in the Google Search Console's URL Inspection tool and I'm not sure how important it is.

Here's what's happening:

  • When viewing the rendered page via the URL Inspection tool, only the logo and a large green rectangle, which is part of a fullscreen background image, are visible. Text and other content elements do not appear at all.
  • To maintain privacy, I've added a black overlay over the logo in the screenshot I’m sharing here.
  • Interestingly, when using the PageSpeed Insights tool from Google, the page renders correctly on mobile, displaying all content as expected.

This discrepancy in rendering between the URL Inspection tool and PageSpeed Insights is confusing. Here are some details about the site:

  • The site uses a significant amount of inline CSS, primarily from Tailwind, which could be impacting the loading or rendering to some extent, though PageSpeed Insights does not indicate major performance issues.
  • The site has been live for over a year, and all pages are indexed, but we're struggling with visibility for key terms.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue? Any insights or suggestions on what could be causing this and how to resolve it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Here’s the screenshot from the Search Console:

Search Console couldn't load Page Resources & Java Script

After Google's latest updates, as everyone, I became a paranoic.

And I noticed in Seach Console that Page Resources couldn't be loaded. The same with Java Script. But the pages are indexed

Here are the snapshots.

Wondering whether this is a problem for SEO. And if so, how can this be fixed.

Thank you so much!

What are people's favorite go tos for handling pagination?

I'm a big fan of self-refering canonicals and indexable.

Lots of other approaches out there though, what's your favourites?

Why isn't there a tool to make this job easier? Imagine copying and pasting a bunch of URLs, and boom: well written meta titles and descriptions in the right pixel length....

Over the past year, I've been busy writing meta descriptions and titles for different websites. Some were my own creations, while others belonged to clients who needed SEO help.

But here's what's been bugging me: Why isn't there a tool to make this job easier? Imagine copying and pasting a bunch of URLs, and boom! You've got well-written meta descriptions that are just the right length. Or, you upload your sitemap, and the tool spits out customized meta tags for every page.

I can't be the only one wishing for a tool like this, can I?

If you know of any existing tools that can do this, please let me know. Because while there are plenty of meta generators out there, they all seem to focus on one page at a time... Hmm.

Does GTM tag fire for Googlebot?

Will googlebot see my tags injected via GTM?

Background: I need to deindex a subdomain and am forced to rely on GTM to add meta robots noindex and remove canonical tags. But Google still indexes my site. I know it’s not ideal, but since we don’t control the code or server, it’s necessary. It’s my understanding, that Google bot will be able to render the GTM JavaScript for these changes in the HTML head. Is this correct?

Blocking in Robots.txt - but Page still Indexed

We are in the 1% use case where blocking the crawl is more important than deindexing.

I work with a large website that has over 1.4M of query parameter URL that has been blocked by robots.txt. I understand that means there is still a potential of it being indexed - and it is because it is internally linked on our webpage due to other reasons.

What is the solution here to get the page deindexed but also prevent crawling?

  1. Unblock from robots, add a noindex tag, wait till they deindex then block them again?
  2. Fix the internal linking issue and then block them so google doesn't reach the page?
  3. Could adding a nofollow tag to the query parameter help?
  4. Some other solution I can't think of and hoping you folks can help

Subtitles below the main H1 to insert keywords and avoid duplicate content

My website lists 400,000 products, and I'm using subtitles below the main H1 just to:

  • insert the main keywords ("where to buy Acme 555", "photos of Acme 555") in the first words of the page
  • make each page unique (to avoid duplicate and thin content), with different wording just at the beginning of each page

I'm aware that using H2 as a subtitle for an H1 is incorrect and so far, I'm using the following structure:

<h1>Acme 555</h1>

<p role="subtitle">Information to buy Acme 555</p>

<p role="subtitle">Acme 555 is a product that blah blah</p>

<p role="subtitle">Here you will find photos of Acme 555</p>

<h2>Map of shops selling Acme 555</h2>

text

<h2>Where to buy Acme 555</h2>

text

I would like to know your opinion about this structure to obtain the mentioned targets (insert keywords and avoid duplicate content).

Drop (just for US and especially mobile) of the Spanish version of the site

My site presents information in Spanish concerning bike tours in Mexico, primarily targeting Mexican residents living in the US.

From mid-January 2024 onwards, the Average Position of the mobile pages experienced a significant decline solely in the US, while remaining consistent in Mexico. Mobile impressions began to steadily decrease starting in September 2024, also limited to the US.

The figures for visits from Google for Mexico-mobile and for US-Desktop have not changed at all.

Some facts that may help:

  • I'm suffering from Core Web Vitals issues in the Spanish version that I'm trying to fix: 25% of the URLs analyzed by Google are orange-flagged (INP longer than 200 ms) and 5% are red-flagged (CLS more than 0.25)
  • The English version of my site is suffering from 'de-indexation': since January, the number of URLs dropped 90% in Core Web Vitals and 50% in the 'Page indexing' section
  • The hreflang of my website is 'es' for Spanish (not 'es-mx') and just 'en' for English (not 'en-us')

I am trying to find clues to help me locate the root cause of the problem.

What is your thought on html website using <table> <td> <tr>?

So I'm interning in a company for a digital marketing position and the boss said that he'll maybe wants to hear my insights on SEO since he wants exposure and since my resume said im into SEO. This is a perfect opportunity for me to have an seo experience. So I did a dig to the company website and I can see why his exposure is lacking.

  1. He made the website from scratch from html, css, javascript without using wordpress at all, there's nothing wrong with it at except for maybe it's not semantic and seo optimized. He's using <table> to position his content and not much of <p> and any jsonld. So my question is, is using <table> ok these days?

  2. And he also has a separate web page for mobile. These days we only use <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale 1.0"> right? And I think there's no need to have a separate page for mobile anymore. I will ask the boss if it's intentional that he have that. I also wants to hear opinions if I got it wrong.

  3. When should we crawl website again and do we need to put a new sitemap? Should I crawl after changes have been applied? Do we need to constantly recrawl from gsc or is it automatic?

  4. Does a organization website need all that <article><main><head> etc or is it only good for blogs?

  5. Finally, is there source where I can learn about how to fix duplicate and canonicals?

Thank you for your time reading this. I'm really into seo and have been upskilling myself. I really want to impress the boss and have a seo career in the future.

New site launch - noindex or let thin pages be crawled as we go through and edit them?

In the next few months we're looking to launch an ecom site with along the lines of 10,000 product pages or so initially.

Right now the product pages are being added in batches via datafeed, then we're fleshing them out properly.

This is a new domain.

My question is, would there be any benefit to slowly/regularly letting Google crawl these thin pages as they're created - or do we keep the site deindexed until the pages are of a good quality even if this means going from 0-10,000+ pages on the first crawl?

It seems to me to be a trade-off between 'warming' the domain up in terms of regular crawling Vs risking low quality signals from the actual content Googlebot indexes...

Mobile pages on custom-themed site need Core Web Vitals improvements- where to start?

My site with a custom theme was built as a desktop first and has been using AMP for WP. Now that google has devalued AMP, what is the best way to fix the fact that 131 mobile pages need CORE WEB VITALS improvement (they have failed the assessment), and the mobile page speed performance is at 74% out of 100%. Should I first take care of the code changes on mobile and desktop and after those are effective in improving CORE WEB VITALS for the mobile site - only after that- uninstall AMP plugin?

Index your page on Bing, Yandex, etc.

I wrote a small script to index your site on Bing, Yandex, and a few other search engines (just like you would do with Google). Free, no bs, just simple API calls to indexnow.org:
