I am an architecture student designing for the future of the Chicago bungalow. My site is in the Southside and I don't know what it's like to live there so any information will help me greatly. Thanks!
Everybody I talk to has a bad impression of Langley, no matter what neighborhood they’re from. Is that true for you too?
Hi. I just wanted to let this community know that there is another subreddit for Chicago's South Side called r/southchi. It was created about a month ago, and I didn't realize this one existed already, but hopefully between the two of us we can support our South Siders here on reddit. Come check us out!

The Center for Gender, Sex, and HIV Prevention at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is doing an online research assessing the experiences and attitudes of young Latino men who have sex with men and trans* Latinas when it comes to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), a once a day pill that helps prevent HIV. The goal of this study is to understand and improve PrEP access in Latinx communities.
You will be compensated $30 in the form of a money order if you complete the survey, and you will have the opportunity to earn an additional $20 if you refer two eligible friends to the study.
Here are the details:
What is Voces Latinx?
Voces Latinx: The Chicago PrEP Opinions Survey is an online survey study that we think can help improve PrEP access for Latinx MSM and trans* Latinas here in Chicago. Participants are asked to share their thoughts about PrEP and also experiences with health care providers. The study is run by psychologist, Dr. Marco Hidalgo, and funded by Emory University’s Center for AIDS Research (CFAR).
What will study participants be asked to do?
It’s a 25-30 minute online questionnaire surveying their attitudes about HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). They will also be asked about their experiences with healthcare providers. We’re collecting this information because we think it can help improve PrEP access in Latinx communities here in Chicago.
In what languages is the survey available?
The survey is available in both English and Spanish.
Will respondents be paid for their participation?
Yes, up to $50. Here’s how: Participants will be compensated $30 cash if they complete the survey, and they will have the opportunity to earn an additional $20 if someone they referred also completes the survey.
How many respondents are needed for this study and by when?
We're looking to enroll 100 participants by July 31, 2017!
Please go to www.voceslatinx.org to get started, or message us for more information.

I'm planning a trip in August, visiting all the memorial sites of Emmett Till, and I am ending my trip in Chicago to visit his grave in Alsip. But I recently found the address of the home he lived at with his mother before he left for Mississippi. My coworker says its in a bad area "especially for a white person", which I am.

I really would like to visit this location. Would I be safe if I visited during the day? I'm just looking to drive up, be there for maybe a minute to take a few pictures, and leave. Or maybe get a taxi, stop in front, take a picture out the window, and go on my way.
Am I taking a big risk considering this?
In a weird, sitcom-esque twist of fate, I am suddenly the owner of 4 heavy pallets of surplus electronics equipment that's in need of storage. It's skidded, so a forklift would be the easiest way to unload. Does anyone have recommendations?
I'm trying to stay near the lower west side/pilsen area, if possible.
Hello! We work for the Center for Gender, Sexuality and HIV Prevention at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. We are in our last phase of recruitment, and we're currently enrolling male couples in mixed HIV status relationships in a HIV medication adherence counseling study. You will be compensated for your time (up to $700 per couple) and receive free HIV and STI testing.
Here are the details:
Eligibility: 18 years or older, cis-gender men in same-gender-loving relationships with men who have a different HIV status than your own, and live in the Chicago land area (within a 50-mile radius from downtown; you must be able to travel to our office in Uptown). All relationship types are welcomed; you could be dating, living together, married, or maybe you just started something!
What you do: Complete an online pre-screener at www.strongertogether.us to see if you are eligible. If you and your partner are eligible, you'll be invited to come into our office to complete additional surveys and HIV and STI testing (includes blood draw and finger prick) and counseling.
Compensation: Each person will receive $50 for each completed appointment (If you are eligible, you and your partner could be invited to come back every 6 months, up to 24 months).
If you or someone you know may be interested in joining or want to learn more about this study, you can email us at strongertogetherchicago@gmail.com or text/call us at 331-248-1921.
Please feel free to share details with your friends. Thank you!
Redditors - I'm coming to Chicago this weekend and want to see some cool things and maybe eat in Southside. Where do I go?
Edit: I'm a pescatarian.
