I'm curious if any contractors or remodelers in the Chicagoland area are accepting Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies for payment.
Dekalb vs Joliet? Young family
Hi all you may remember me from getting bashed about asking about the steger/south burbs š. I finally have got preapproved (160k) I know itās basically nothing for the burbs.
But we have narrowed down our options too Joliet or Dekalb there are houses in both areas that meet our budget. Iām familiar with both areas but not as much to know how they are for young familyās. Any info in appreciated please donāt kill me like last time lol.
Looking for a restaurant that has some really great dairy free options. Not vegan though. Going out with about 20 people for my wife's 40th. She's a meat eater but doesn't do dairy. Probably kind of a trendy place. Bonus if they have great dairy free carrot cake or pumpkin desserts. Actually that's probably the most important is great dairy free dessert options.
I was just trying to find a cvs man wtf is this
Hello all, I am a young adult in my mid twenties. I grew up in the Southwest suburbs (Joliet/Plainfield area) and moved to Chicago for undergrad + grad school. I am working on my field now and starting off getting a handle on my financials, investing, saving for a down payment for a house, etc.
My goal is to purchase a small home within the next couple of years. I am wanting to hear feedback on which suburbs would be a solid choice for a median salary (currently single atm so not anticipating merging finances with anyone) that is still reputable, safe, and a nice place to live (that is a joke on Darienās āa nice place to liveā sign)
I would not like to go directly back to the same area I grew up in. Currently working in Chicagoās Medical District area; willing to commute a bit considering Iām hybrid wfh & 2-3 days in office.
Also, who knows where life will take me employment wise! Iām open to prioritizing location of home & surroundings over a potentially temporary job.
Thank you in advance!
Hi,
My front door was not properly sealed by the builder and can feel wind draft + see lights coming through, tried the frostking weather strip but It cannot properly fit (not sure if it's because the door was not installed properly or whatnot). Kind of gotten worse now that asian lady beetles and flies seem to come through.
Any recommendation on any handyman/small shop that is willing to do this kind of work? I called around and I don't think anyone is willing to do such a small job.
Located in Mundelein/Vernon Hill area.
TIA.
I'm considering moving to Oak Park, but thinking ahead to when our kid(s) are older and of driving age. I found out that you cannot park on the street overnight and most houses are only permitted two parking spots out back.
Do the teenagers just not have a car? Do the parents drive them everywhere? Do they walk? I don't understand how families are getting by with only two parking spaces. What am I missing here?
I'm talking about the mixed residential/retail in the city center just east of Lake St. (US45). They seem to have been completed a few years ago. Doesn't anyone want to live the faux urban lifestyle in Mundelein?
Context: Wife and I are in our late 20s. We bought our home downstate right when Covid started, so itās cheap. We make roughly 150k/year right now and have no other debt. Itās very comfortable and a hard choice to give up.
Itās quite a bit more to live in the suburbs, but brings with it a lot more to do and places to work. We would still increase our expenses even if we stayed downstate and bought a nicer home so that helps close the gap. On the other hand, itās peaceful around here.
We are looking for other factors to help decide what we want to do with the next few years. Aside from career opportunities and more things to do, is there anything not usually considered that drew you to greater Chicagoland? Is there anything you learned about post-move that you particularly like, donāt like, or wish you knew earlier to inform your move? And, would you consider Chicagoland or somewhere totally different now?
I checked out a few goodwills near schaumburg and carol stream and found no furniture, any suggestions for affordable furniture new and or 2nd hand to check out?
This is so cool.

Does anyone know the streets this house is located at? I'd love to take my wife to see it tonight. Huge Elton fan.
Chicago used to have e horse drawn carriages ready to anyone who walked up. Is there anything near Chicago or neighboring border states that have horse drawn carriage rides that donāt cost hundred of dollars to have someone meet you somewhere. Something similar to what used to be legal on Chicago?
Iām a pretty good home cook and Iāve accumulated a lot of knifes - from good German to amazing Japanese carbon steel.
The problem is I suck at sharpening them. Iāve tried some of the tools, and sharpening aids, bought several whetstones and watched many YouTube videos, but just canāt get it right. Now I barely use my good knives because I donāt want to dull them since I canāt sharpen them well.
I know thereās a few places in the area that offer whetstone sharpening but I really want to do it myself. Does anyone know of a class or even a private tutor who can teach me? Iām in the Westmont area.
Anywhere that sells dance shoes?
I have a 2 going on 3 year eviction on my credit and itās hard finding housing. Do anyone know of any private landlords or housing that doesnāt do credit checks? Or accepts LEAP Easy? Please help
I am taking over a service-based business in the Chicago area next year. Most of our business is on the weekend. I currently live in Des Moines, Iowa, but my wife recently took a job at the University of Iowa. We plan to move to the border town of Moline, IL. It's about a 1-hour drive to Iowa City for her. I plan to move the business to Aurora, Bolingbrook, or Naperville which is a 2-1/2 hour drive for me. We can both work from home several days a week. We plan to do this for about 2-3 years before we fully move to the area. Broad question, but can anyone, provide any advice about commuting, working, living, hot tips, things to know, etc before we make this move?
Anyone else frequent this intersection? Seems they changed the timing on this light recently making it change way too often if you are driving eastbound/westbound on Irving Park Rd. This has caused crazy traffic and backups all along that stretch of Irving Park Rd for the past few weeks during evening rush hour.
Anyone have any intel as to why or who to make aware of? I believe this would fall under the village of Franklin Park?
I am at the end of my rope, I am looking for a gastro doc (preferably female but Iām open to male doctors if theyāre really fitting the bill) I am looking for someone who
has an office staff that is easy to deal with (preferably uses some kind of portal that you can message questions)
is very anxiety friendly, I have really bad anxiety around healthcare and need someone who will work with me on that(this is the main thing Iām looking at)
-major plus if they have pelvic floor therapy as part of their practice or is something theyāve worked with
I am in the Arlington heights area but willing to travel for a great doctor/practice
Hi all! Iām in my mid-twenties, looking to move to the area. My hope was downtown Chicago, but I will be working in Willowbrook.
Are there any good walkable suburbs with people in my age range near the area? Chicago commute appears to be too far. Thank you!
Looking for rent around $1600 or less.
It always amazes me how far back the manmade channels in the Chain O' Lakes extend (especially Long Lake!).
Does anyone have any good reads on the history of how these channels came about? I'm particularly curious about which of the channels are the newest.
Also, do any locals know if there's talk of connecting/dredging to any other nearby lakes as well? I imagine local politics + nature preservation are probably keeping the situation at status quo (doubt anyone wants more boat access on the Chain), just curious.
Lake Tranquility, Antioch Lake, Duck Lake, Lake Louette, and Brandenburg Lake all seem like the closest candidates for expansion and at similar elevation.
The tagged flair isn't perfect since it's technically a "since moving back" question:
Grew up in Illinois, spent about 10 years in New Orleans, and built a great career down there at some spots some of y'all might know. I recently moved back, finished school, and making a career change.
With full-time positions in my field of software development being slow to open up, Iām looking for part-time bar/restaurant work for the next 2-3 months while applying to full-time roles the other half of the week.
The challenge is, I donāt really know anyone in the industry here and have been having trouble finding something local to the suburbs. Iāll probably need to work in the city, but thought Iād first check in with my friends at r/ChicagoSuburbs for any recommendations on where to look beyond LinkedIn, Craigslist, or the usual Facebook Service Industry pages.
Any advice is appreciated! Happy to offer more personal info in DM.
My son is 15 and has his learner's permit. I am running out of places for him to drive me. We live in Deerfield. I am looking for places 30-45 minutes away that he can drive me to and then drive home. We can only run so many errands. Would be nice to find something fun we can do together.
Basically wanting to get more background and pros/cons to these issues.
Election Worker Protection and Candidate Accountability Referendum Act of Public Act 103-586: Should any candidate appearing on the Illinois ballot for federal, state, or local office be subject to civil penalties if the candidate interferes or attempts to interfere with an election worker's official duties?
This seems pretty straightforward to me. What would make someone vote this "no" that I may not be seeing or understanding?
Property tax relief and Fairness Referendum Act of Public Act 103-586: Should the Illinois Constitution be amended to create an additional 3% tax on income greater than $1,000,000 for the purpose of dedicating funds raised to property tax relief?
Seems straightforward enough. What are the reasons for voting no, other than having an income >$1 million? What impact would this have on average joes by voting yes?
Assisted Reproductive Health Referendum Act of Public Act 103-586: Should all medically appropriate assisted reproductive treatments, including, but not limited to, in vitro fertilization, be covered by any health insurance plan in Illinois that provides coverage for pregnancy benefits, without limitation on the number of treatments?
This one is a little more complex. My question is what implication this will have on medical premiums for health insurance plans for everyone else. Seems overly broad to state "all...assisted reproductive treatments" and "without limitation on the number of treatments." I understand the pros of this, as it is dang expensive to get these treatments (my sister needed help in getting pregnant), but could the downside be that it significantly impacts premiums for everyone else? (don't get me started on my own issues/thoughts on the private healthcare system)
Hello, I am researching people on my ballot. I am a democrat and I see that there are 5 democrats running in district 1 and 2.
I was wondering if you could tell me who you are voting for and why, I am sadly not very involved in local elections (this will change) so I am trying to understand this section of my ballot.
I know everyone is different and I was hoping to learn more about the choices by asking other locals
Options are:
Benjamin Schmidt
Jamal Williams
Zachary Turnbow
Savena Joiner
Zach BachmannĀ
Hi everyone! Wanted to circle back on this forum as I had a successful discussion some months back when I was trying to locate a new dentist due to change of employment. (Landed on Higgins family dental)
Due to the same cause, I need to locate a new primary care doctor as my current job had me switch providers for benefits.
Currently looking for a new doctor for annual check ups but wanted some recommendations in the NW burbs to NW Chicago neighborhoods.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Looking at some homes around Orland, Tinley, Palos. Some havenāt sold since pre-Covid so theyāre assessed at significantly less than their list prices. Taxes are already expensive.
Iām assuming the assessed value will just pop right up to the sale value within a year or two after purchase? This could be a significant change in expenses that Iād want to consider ahead of time.
Also, is Cook County really that much worse than DuPage, Will?
Thanks!
