Homebrewers' Pride of the Southside annual Oktoberfest party is back!

There will be HOPS! members around, including many with BJCP expertise, who will give beer advice, brewing knowledge, style critique and let you know how you can become a member of one of Chicago's oldest homebrew clubs fermenting since 1995.

Hello everyone! My girlfriend's car was hit parking during Sunday 9/1 and Monday 9/2 by the Starbucks in Chinatown. It's a white sedan. I am devastated for her since she just spent a couple thousands on repairing the car.

I was wondering if anyone witnessed anything or have footage of when that happened. I also wanted to ask if the surrounding buildings generally would give us the footage if we asked (no idea how this works, it's our first time).

My wife was telling me back in the day, her dad used to take her to some of the White Sox Parking Lots to have her just get used to the car and drive around. I believe the lots are all blocked off now, so I don't think that's an option. Anyone else have any advice on where I could take a teenager out to start?

At the UIC HAPPY Lab, we are conducting research studying how ovarian hormones (estrogen, progesterone) influence drug effects and behavior. If you are a woman (sex assigned at birth) aged 18-35 years old, use birth control pill (21 days active, 7 days inactive), and currently consume or previously consumed substances on a recreational basis (for example, alcohol, caffeine, cannabis, stimulants etc), you may be eligible to participate. Hello! My name is Jennifer; I am a graduate student at Northwestern University. I am hoping to learn about the experiences of Spanish-English bilingual speakers from Chicago. I am specifically interested in understanding what information affects how we hear speech and am currently inviting participants for a language perception study considering that question. Participants will receive a $20 digital gift card of their choice for completion of the study.

Participation takes about thirty minutes and can be completed remotely. It involves listening to speech and identifying what you heard as well as completing a follow-up questionnaire about your impressions of the speakers and your language background.

Dr. Cope Feurer (PhD) at the University of Illinois at Chicago is conducting a study on social interactions, brain responses, and emotions in teenage girls. We are looking for adolescent girls between the ages of 13 and 15 with a family history of depression to participate in a study at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Adolescents and their participating parent will complete psychiatric interviews and complete questionnaires at a screening visit. Additionally, adolescents will complete some tasks while their brain waves and heartbeat are recorded. Adolescents will also complete an fMRI scan to non-invasively measure brain function, brief surveys throughout the day on a phone app for 14 days, and 3 virtual follow-up assessments involving interviews and questionnaires across 12 months. Families will be compensated up to $275 for their participation in the study.
