Landlord raising fees in the middle of lease agreement?

Hi, all, I have a question about tenant rights in Savannah/GA. We live at an apartment complex and we just received an email that the pet rent, trash fee, and utility fee will all be going up as of Jan. 2025. However, these are all set in our lease agreement that we signed. Is this legal? This is not the first time they have changed utilities on us, in the past they also went from a fixed water charge (also set in the lease) to a meter-reading charge that over doubled our monthly water bill.

Thanks for any insight you might have on this!

Where can I find Ghost Pirates merch in town?

I know the question has been asked before, but that was about a year ago and I'm hoping more places have started to carry it. TIA!

Taxi from Amtrak station at 1:30am?

Hello 👋 I'm visiting Savannah with my partner in a few weeks and our train gets in at 1:30am. Are we likely to get an Uber/Lyft/local taxi at that hour of the night? Loath to book a taxi in advance since Amtrak often runs late.

TIA! Very excited to explore your beautiful city

Bars after 2am??

Any good bars that serves food to go that are open past 2am? My friends and I like clubbing pretty late but don't really keep track of bars or restaurants within downtown to go to right after.

Really happy to see all the trick or treaters out, but concerned how hard families are to see on some streets.

Kids are damn near invisible in Ardsley, and parents are walking in the middle of the road!

I was slowly driving through, and it was a fairly terrifying how little they could be seen in certain areas. With the amount of families that are out, and how poorly lit the Ardsley neighborhood is in spots, it's probably a good idea to invest in reflector tape for next year. Just saying.

Still... happy to see people out, and not just Trunk or Treating.

Healthcare plans from new marketplace (Georgia Access)

So for those that obtain health insurance plans from the marketplace, it's no longer available on healthcare.gov for Georgia residents. Instead, they've switched to something called Georgia Access

I tried finding a similar plan to the one I currently have and obtained through the marketplace. The monthly premiums were a bit higher, but the deductibles and out of pocket maxes are way higher than what I currently have with the same company. There's nothing even comparable with the current marketplace plan I have now.

Has anyone else noticed a big difference?

Is the Sorrel Weed House ghost tour worth it?

Hey yall! My family is traveling to Savannah for a couple of days and were planning to do ghost tours (as per usual), and I read that a lot of people enjoyed doing a walking tour as well as a ghost tour inside of the Sorrel Weed House. Is it worth it to pay the extra $35 to go inside of the house, or should we just stick to a good walking ghost/history tour around the city? We're also taking recommendations for the best ghost tours in the city! We love history just as much as the spooky stuff, so any recs that are not super corny would be appreciated.

Got a dog in doggy daycare?

Make sure you're asking the facility about ratio sizes in the play yards- in example, if the ratio is 1 handler to every 10 dogs (1:10) or 1:30, etc. And if the facility is actually putting a daily limit on daycare.

I quit my job working at a local dog daycare and the moment I realized it was not ethical to both animals, their owners, and the workers was when I was in a yard by myself with 50+ dogs.its a big hazard. Things can get ugly fast and both dogs and people get hurt and it's all technically legal as long as the business owner pays a higher kennel license fee ($400 for 80+ dogs with the GDA). Georgia currently has NO rules or regulations on how many dogs or how many handlers to each dog- its still considered ethical if the dog has access to water, ventilation, and can lay down. There is nothing in the rules about overcrowding or not providing adequate, as well as dog-behavior trained, staffing per number of dogs.

If you care about this like I do, call or email the Companion Animal Program of the Georgia Department of Agriculture (I've created a simple copy and paste outline below) so we can see better regulations in dog daycares that would mandate dog daycares to have better conditions for pooches and their hoomans! The people I've spoken with at GDA recommend doing this so their leaders can make observations and changes. There are currently many other states that have these laws in place, as well as local dog daycares that already have strict ratio policies despite not being mandated to (because ethics)- but not all do and neglectfully choose so.

Companion Animal Program of Georgia Department of Agriculture: caecompliance@agr.georgia.gov

Hello! My name is _____ I'm writing to you today to voice my concerns on the lack of regulations on Dog Daycare facility daily limits and ratios between dogs and workers as well as the grey area that allows overcrowding and risky ratio management in these types of facilities. Please update the Georgia Rules and Regulations with the Animal Protections Act to consider this. Thank you!

Insulating attic of older home

Has anyone used a company to have insulation done on the attic of their older home? I know lots of companies are gonna try to sell you on spray foam but I have some concerns about turning a place intended to breath into an unconditioned space. Thoughts from those that have done it?

Halloween

Does anyone know if there’s any free haunted houses tonight? Maybe I don’t know if like the fire station because where I’m from my town Florida at the fire station host haunted houses for the community I don’t know if Savannah does stuff like that.

Savannah Women’s Marathon map

Hi everyone, I’ve been trying to get a handle on the course for the 2024 Savannah women’s marathon, but I can’t really find a course map that is usable.

The one on the website is on google maps and disappears as you try to zoom in and is a mess to read. They say a printable option is coming soon, but they started saying that weeks ago.

I have been sending emails to the contact address on the website, but have not got helpful leads. The pointed me to a garmin map that someone did on their own, but there are discrepancies.

The course on garmin (and I do appreciate who ever made for trying to figure it out) is .6 miles longer than it should be and the second half is going the wrong direction from what I can tell about the course at this time.

It is disappointing that Team Milk (the organization behind the race) has not done the simplest, and most important, aspect of a marathon. Publishing an accurate course map that is readable. I do know the course was finalized just a few weeks ago (at least that is what they told me) but it should take only a couple hours to make maps on garmin, Strava, mapmyrun or whatever other common apps for running route planning.

So has anyone had any luck figuring this course out yet, or know where to find an accurate map?
