What would you consider the most famous or infamous crime that has ever happened in Rapid City?
One example:
My friend Ed was murdered after visiting an ATM downtown, and from what I heard later, 2 of the 3 men involved took their own lives after sentencing. His story was featured on Investigation Discovery's See No Evil back in 2017.
I am flying into rapid city and am deciding whether to rent a car or pay someone to drive me to eagle butte. If I decide to pay someone to drive, what is a fair payment for the 5 hour roundtrip?
I frequently see golden spa massage while getting driving nearly daily. Even late at night they are open. I looked it up on Google and the hours are 9:30am to 9:30pm. I guess my question is has anyone ever been there? Is it a front for something else?
5-10 years ago, my friends were staying at a seasonal campsite that had a caged (borderline domesticated) wolf at the campsite. Does anybody happen to know about what campsite I’m talking about? I think it was somewhere in the hills by Sturgis, but not positive!
Looking for recommendations on where to search for an apartment for an incoming graduate student at Mines. I'm looking for quiet and safe. Off street parking and washer/dryer in unit are a must. Do you have any thoughts on specific places to look? And, maybe more importantly, where to avoid? Thanks!
Does anyone know if the grills at Canyon Lake Park are reservable or if they are first come, first served? Looking to have a cookout this weekend after the color run.
Wondering about your service experiences with Courtesy Subaru?
Hello all,
SD native but originally from the east side. I haven't lived in the state for years now but always loved the hills area. Wondering if you could provide some perspective and insight on the real cost of living in the area.
I recently got an advanced degree and have been applying for jobs. I got an offer to go to Rapid City for $54,000 a year (overtime is on the table but not mandatory). I cannot negotiate any higher and the salary is a decent bit lower than the offers a lot of my fellow graduating cohorts have been getting. But I figure, hey, it's SD and CoL is lower + no state income. But I have also heard that RC is getting expensive...fast.
In your experience, is 54,000 enough to live comfortably in the RC area? I don't have any big debt, single, and no pets. My only fault, financially, is that I am cyclist which, if you're aware, isn't the cheapest hobby. I would like to live comfortably but don't need anything lavish. Wouldn't want to rent anything more than a 1bdr or small townhome.
54k comfortable wage or bust?
EDIT - Thanks for the input everyone! I know these types of questions can get old fast but I appreciate the insight.
I was trying to find a small storage unit to rent in town while I move out of my slum apartment, but literally everything is full except this place: https://www.droppointstorage.com/
You sign up and rent online though, and no one answers the phone. I can't drive out there today to see if it's a real place and google maps just shows an empty field, but that might be old. Does anyone know if this is legit?
I went to The Storyteller store downtown and was essentially told if I'm not into D&D I'm out of luck finding a group. I'm looking to start a group face-to-face running either Traveller or Tales From The Loop. Anyone have suggestions on where to advertise (other than Facebook)? Does anyone know if Western Dakota Tech or School of Mines have groups?
I know that we don't have a lot of light pollution but is there a better spot to see the lights tonight?
heeey! my wife and dog and i are only staying in rapid city for 3 more days! we have seen mt rushmore, bear country, needles, custer, wildlife loop. wondering if there’s any more must sees!? esp dog friendly. thanks in advance!!
Hello there, fellow Rapid Citians. I am new to the area, and I was wondering if anyone had an old adult baseball bat that they would like for me to take off their hands. Preferably a 34 inch bat, but I’ll take what you’ve got.
Hello,
Any Volkswagen Tiguan owners out there? Where do you go to get your car serviced? Liberty just seems really expensive every time I go there, so curious if there are other places in town you've used that will service them for less than what Liberty charges.
Would love your thoughts and recommendations!
This mornings double rainbow
One of my wisdom teeth is absolutely fucked, its unfortunately also situated on a nerve so a simple extraction is not possible. Who would you all recommend for oral surgery? I'm not new here, but the surgeon my last dentist recommended I thought was really, really high. And rude tbh. I don't have dental insurance atm, also, just medical
Family reunion in June in the area. Looking for a jcpenny-style photo studio to do some 90's retro portraits.
Hi all I'm thinking about emigrating with a small family to America from the UK. I have enough in sale of my current home to purchase a modest house in Rapid City with no mortgage ideally I wanna invest in solar to reduce energy bill too . I don't want to be chained to the same lifestyle I am here working 40hr week etc.. is it possible to work part time say 25hrs a week and get health insurance etc ( both me and wife would happily work jobs/ just neither of us are that career motivated at this point ) .. I am set as far as a pension goes as both me and my wife have state pensions from Uk and public pension here in UK. For context early 40s, kids will attend a middle school/ highschool .. would we cover bills etc.. what's cost of living like.. I just want to do more things I enjoy , coaching sports etc..
Hey I (m15) play guitar and I'm looking to start a band, I like thrash metal nu metal and death metal
Less than a month ago I came across someone with closer ties to the theme park. I asked about the rollercoaster and flume which are showcased in the promotional video that was released but was not mentioned in any promotional advertising. They said they are part of the attraction and that they are "all-in" on the project and are currently getting investors.
That said, and the name withstanding of the theme park, it sounds like it's 100% coming and that it will open in several phases (theme park, housing, camping, etc). The person I talked to mentioned that the city is 100% behind it.
When you look at the current growth and projected growth of the area, as well as the companies coming here, I see no reason it won't happen outside of things possibly beyond anyones control. Or unless investor interest dries up for some reason.
Some have mentioned how it won't probably happen then point to the dead 'Rippin' Rapids' indoor waterpark that was supposed to have opened not that many years ago near the Mall and a block from where this theme park will go.
But those people fail to realize that it was almost complete when the owner and person pushing for it, unexpectedly died and his family didn't want to take ownership of it as it was his project, not theirs.
That all being said, everything I have heard and seen points to it happening. What about the Keystone location that wouldn't be a theme park but more of a place for shopping/eating and meetings/events and a hotel?
I know there are some concerns about staffing and other things, but that isn't what this is about. I'm just curious on the movement of this.
What have you heard? Anything new? I'm sure there is a lot of conflicting information out there. But let's hear it.
Promotional video:
Libertyland USA Fly-Through | Storyland Studios | Theme Park Design (youtube.com)
Storyland Studios writes up on it (all are generally different with different info, but same core):
Libertyland USA - Storyland Studios
Libertyland USA - Storyland Studios
Storyland Studios announce Libertyland USA - Storyland Studios
Anyone been before?
Need to get a windshield replaced. Looking for shop recommendations. Thanks!
Hello! I'm posting again to see if anyone has some good recommendations for stylists who do perms in rapid city!
Hello Rapid City! I'm an ethnomusicology student from Turkey, and I am currently in Rapid City. I want to learn more about Native American culture and experience it firsthand. Are there any events, places, or music-related activities that I can participate in? I have already visited the Crazy Horse Memorial, and I am amazed by it. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to attend a Pow Wow yet, but I know the Black Hills Pow Wow will be held in October this year, and that's already on my list. Other than that, are there any other events or activities I can participate in this summer?
Thank you so much for your help and suggestions!
Anyone interested in doing a hazbin hotel and or helluva boss watch party? I'm bored. Maybe we could do a watch party? Feel free to comment if interested.
