Do Mines students actually get to ride the rapid ride bus free or is that just something I made up?
HS Senior who is committed and hopefull to survive major of mechanical engineering. Came across this school through Colorado Mines subreddit & have taken a interest. How connected is the institution to the petroleum field? Are there a handful of for example service companies recruit & take interns?
How is the climate towards women? I am considering Mines for college, and I'm concerned about whether or not/how much I'm going to get harassed or looked down on by my peers for being a woman. Thoughts?
I heard that a lot of students here are very pretentious/believe they are much more intelligent than other is that true?
What is the LGBTQ presence look like in SDSMT and Rapid City? I'm a gay incoming freshman (fall of 2025) and I just want to be prepared for what level of discrimination I'm gonna face from teachers and my peers.
Is there a service or forum or something like that for students to organize ride sharing? Us so, could someone please link it? Thanks!
How is SDSMT with emotional support animals? I'm looking to bring my cat with me when I start next school year and I'm worried about how hard it's gonna be to get him in with me.
I'm currently looking at my options for university (SDSMT is currently my #1 choice :) ), and wherever I end up attending, I plan to join the music program. I am a bass clarinet player who is still in HS, but I don't own a bass clarinet, so I'm renting one from the school. Since I probably won't be able to buy one of my own any time soon, I was wondering if there were any good instrument rental options at SDSMT, or if I'd be better off just switching to a soprano clarinet (which I have 2 of).
How strict is Mines about living on campus during Freshman/Sophomore years? Is it possible to get an exemption from this requirement? This is for an out-of-state student, so cannot use the 'parent's house within x miles' reason for an exemption.
Hi all!
We are conducting a research study that explores various supports for college students who struggle with anxiety and/or depression. Participation is over zoom so you can reside anywhere in the U.S. Please see the attached flyer for more information. If you're interested, you can email us at mindful.student.research@gmail.com or call/text at 605-389-3086.
Have a great day,

I recently got accepted to go to mines and was curious about the EE department. I heard some negative stuff about it some time ago and just wanted to see what everyone thought. Also I’m interested in double majoring was wondering if anyone could share the experience with that. Thanks!
Prospective student here - wondering what the support services are like and how easy it is to get help with classes or assignments? Are students encouraged to work together? How available are the professors if I have questions?
I'm planning to major in Math or CS and go into data science so if there's anything specific to those majors please mention that.
Hey, I'm starting with a couple classes to work towards Biomedical Engineering. I'm looking to make friends with other students in a similar field, and I'm curious if there are any other non-traditional students like me going to mines.

Are people playing DND at the School of Mines? If so, where can they be found? What editions are they playing, and are they looking for DMs or players?
No more SD Mines tikky tokkies lmao
Hey all. I'm a prospective student looking into here, Michigan Tech, and RIT for Computer Engineering. Would any of you recommend SDSMT? What are the good things about it? What are the bad things about the school? Most importantly, is the school/life balance okay? What can I expect going here?
