    PSU single sign on problems

Is anyone else having trouble signing into any PSU accounts? Whenever I try to sign in it says "CSRF token verification failed". Really annoying, can't access my email.

    MKTG 363 with Gillpatrick

Hi all! I’m expected to be taking 363 next term. Are the negative reviews about Gillpatrick true? I’m concerned about the arbitrary grading and no specific rubric. Are there any tips for getting through his class? Are there other professors that teach this class? TIA

    Halloween parties?

I'm trying to make new friends this year and I think my costume is great too. Anyone know of any Halloween parties going on this week?

Good ways to make friends at PSU? 4th year & feel like I haven't made any! lol 😅

I guess I'm asking for some advice because I kinda feel like I've missed out on college social life since I don't know many people here! Are clubs or events a good way? Or just meeting people in class?

When studying on campus, do you guys leave your stuff alone when you go use the bathroom?

This is my first term here, and I study alone for hours in the same spot. When I need to use the bathroom, I often put it off until it’s almost painful because I have crippling anxiety about asking others to "watch my stuff." I feel like I’m bothering people around me especially when they have headphones on 😣

At my old community college, no one cared if you left your things unattended- you could even leave a pile of cash, and it would still be there when you came back. But here, the buildings are way more crowded, and I know there’s a high chance that belongings might get snooped through or stolen. The buildings I frequent are all badge access, if that helps.

I know it’s probably a bad idea, but I usually take my electronics with me and leave the rest of my stuff on the chair. So far, nothing has happened but I feel like it's a matter of time before something does happen. It’s so busy here that if I pack everything up just to use the bathroom for a couple of minutes, someone usually takes the seat or table and I'm left wondering around for an empty spot like a lost idiot (i'm new and still trying to get used to the layouts here). I never know how to handle this.

What do you guys do in this situation?

    Resume tool & review

I'm a PSU alum, and I know the job market is brutal right now, so I wanted to share a resume tool I built. It’s helped me land interviews for VP roles, and I’m offering 10 free resume downloads for current students to give you a leg up. You can make unlimited customized resumes for free that fit whatever job you're applying for.

You can sign up here: https://www.resumecraftai.com/?ref=psu2024

It’s all about making resumes that actually get through ATS filters and match what hiring managers want to see. Hope this can be helpful. Let me know if you have questions or feedback! Also, if you want me to personally review your resume, I work with hiring managers all the time and would be happy to review it.

Good luck out there, and Go Viks!

    Study group on campus

Helloooo, I've been desperate for a study group and all the ones I've seen have times that don't really work for me. I live on campus and am looking for other people who live on campus because I'm more motivated at night. However you don't have to live on campus!! My availability is:

Monday- anytime after 3 Wednesday-basically all day Friday (sometimes)- all day before 7 Sunday- all day

I have weird hours because of work but you don't have to do just these hours!! Feel free to talk to other people in the discord and organize other times to come together!

Looking for current grad students in PSU’s school of business who may be available for a quick interview regarding networking and professional development.

Huge thanks to anyone who can talk. Please let me know! This is for a course in digital transformation I’m taking in the MSADSB program.

    UHRL needs to pay RAs

If you're going to restrict the ability to work outside of it, then make it so people can cover their basic expenses. Especially when they're basically running your department for you. I tried to confront the parasites in charge with this last year. But they're more focused maintaining the status quo of pizza parties and gratitude emails. This school has the same workplace practices as Amazon or Walmart.

Tl;Dr Savannah, Julie, and Ashley at UHRL are parasites in the way of actual change for residents

    I really like PSU

As an engineering student. I was at OSU last year and I transferred this year to be closer to home. Even though OSU is pretty much a dedicated college town, PSU feels much more fun and welcoming. Maybe it's because we're mostly from Portland? Maybe because it's a lower cost college? Thoughts?

    BA 303 Business Finance

When I was in this class I was really struggling to keep all the formulas straight with the pace of it all. Looking back, I would’ve loved a better tool for support. I have an extremely helpful Excel workbook with embedded formulas that’s color coded that saved my life I can share if others had the same struggle. Obviously no answers are in this, just the structure of formulas categorized.

    Opinions on Computer Science program

Hi, I just got accepted to PSU and I'll be a transfer student from UAA. I'm a current second semester freshman and I haven't started my computer science classes yet because of my math grade. I've heard some mixed feelings on the course and I would like to know if it's gotten better since. I don't want to move out of state and pay an extra $3,000 per semester for something that may not be worth it. TIA!

PSU opinions from out of state grad students? (MFT master’s)

Hi everyone! I’m looking at PSU for the marriage couple and family counseling master degree. I’m really interested in the internship opportunities and the program seems like a good fit for me, but I am from Texas. I was wondering if any grad out of staters could share their experience with financial aid/scholarships and whether you felt the money was well worth it or not. Also, I was wondering how the actual culture towards minorities are at PSU. I am Hispanic and I definitely look like it lol, so just curious.

For background, I’ve frequently visited Washington for the PNW beauty as I love hiking. I recently made a trip to Portland and Manzanita beach (unrelated to school and before I knew about PSU) and I loved it. In Texas, there are only a few schools for my program that are CACREP accredited and I already applied for the one I would like to go to if I stayed there. It was coincidence, really, that PSU is one of the few schools offering what I want in a place I feel is beautiful. Just wanted to hear others’ experiences.

    Thank you!

St. Helens Building - 2nd year experience

Does anybody else think it’s unfair that the St. Helen’s building is exclusively for the people in the second year experience? If we’re paying for housing I think it’s only fair if we’re able to choose from ALL of the options available but that’s not the case. The crazy thing about this is that this literally is my second year but I couldn’t live in that building since I’m over 21. How does that even make sense? I was able to live there last year (which was my first year) and I loved it there. Not sure why it wasn’t a problem for me to live there last year but it was this year. In my opinion St. Helens has the best room option out of all of the student housing buildings so I’m bummed out that I couldn’t live there this year. All because it’s “only for the second year experience” and I’m not accepted into that because of my age. It’s BS honestly

    Potential Grad Student

Hello! I'm relatively new to using Reddit but I'm considering Portland State for graduate school. Any opinions/advice? I was particularly wondering any suggestions on how to go about looking for housing in Portland close to the university and any insight into the social scene/activities as a young adult? I'm a rock climber and a big outdoors-y person so I'm just looking to get involved in that type of community. I know that's a broad question so feel free to redirect me somewhere or answer only one thing!

Digimon Players Around Campus? (other TCGs too)

Howdy! I transferred to PSU this fall, and realized that I'm going to be around campus pretty often! Different from what I was used to with PCC. Currently, I've got some morning classes, but I've got an evening class on Tuesdays.

I thought hey, while I'm here, it might be fun to bring some cards with me in case there's other players around! I've got a few Digimon starter decks (Cendrillmon, Garurumon ACE and Mastemon), but I've also got some Flesh and Blood, and Magic (Commander/EDH). Any other players on here? I'd love to see if there's any schedule overlap on campus to jam some games. New players always welcome! I love teaching games to folk.

CS Department -- And University as a Whole -- is a Joke

I'm a senior at PSU and what we're doing is equivalent to first or second year stuff at other universities. The whole thing has been a joke since PCC. The available electives are thin and uninteresting, I drive over an hour one way each day now (since in-person attendance is mandated) just to watch an obese guy read slides. I've taken many online courses (FREE!!!) for fun and nothing has come close to being as bad as PSU in terms of content and organization.

I went here because it closer and cheaper, but I deeply regret not going to OSU or a more serious school. It's no wonder their enrollment numbers have been dropping.

Help! Senior Auditor won't turn off phone in class 👂🏻 ⏰🚨

Help. I'm in a very serious history class and a senior auditor is disruptive with her phone notifications going off, 20 times in a half hour (2 hour class). She says she is incapable of knowing how to turn off the volume, and of knowing how to turn off her phone. She says she's blind and deaf, but I see both "blind and deaf" are at a degree since she has no aids and presents as fully capable.

She handed me her phone yesterday in class, I tried to turn it off, then she grabbed it back and said she doesn't want me to turn it off because she won't be able to turn it back on. I told her I would never do that, she needs safety especially now that she said she is blind.

I always have an android, she has an i-phone. The last thing I want to do is be responsible for learning her dirty i-phone. In a class of 60 people, everyone else turns off their volumes to listen to the Professor's serious lectures. This happened yesterday, I finally spoke to her a half hour into class, asking if it's her phone that is making noise. She appeared very angry at me for speaking up. During the 5 minute break she started arguing with me, I said I didn't do anything to her phone, I didn't know how to open it, I always have androids. The Professor asked the students if there is anyone who can help her turn off her i-phone, and someone helped. I'm feeling traumatized by this situation, and I hope it isn't repeated. What can I do? This 80 year old thinks it's okay to be disruptive in class because "she's blind and deaf" and "doesn't hear the phone"/ "it's not ringing - is it?!"

I don't want classmates and the Professor to be upset with me for (trying to) have a classroom where I can learn which reflects on my classwork/ discussions/ tests and paper writing / questions about the material. Learning today she is/was an exceptional artist and lawyer, when I googled her name. She doesn't know how to turn down her volume or off her phone?! She said, a few times, she wants to know if someone calls her during class. Help. I need to concentrate on this class and information to do well.
