"Does it really rain all the time? When will Mt. Hood erupt? Where can I get a decent beer in this town?" and other thought provoking queries.
We hope that you will read through and follow our simple rules, which we share with our friends at /r/Portland.
If you're moving to Portland, here are a few basic resources. This is the most recent data of rental prices, and /r/Portland has some good suggestions for general moving questions.
If you have questions about moving, please be as specific as you can - price range, neighborhood, pets, cars, size - and we'll do our best to help. Keep in mind, there's nowhere in Portland that is "unsafe" or inherently better than any other, so your specific tastes and needs will come into play.
If you're visiting Portland please read the AskPortland Visitor's Guide. This is updated frequently and made through the contributions of AskPortland readers - and it's right at the top of the page! We've gone through a lot of trouble to answer all the basic questions, so read through it and then be specific with follow-ups please!

coming out of my cold tap, just wondering if anyone else is getting this?
Hi! My boyfriend and I are celebrating our three years in December. Wondered if anyone knew of any cool events going on or fun things that we could do.
Open to anything (theater/performance, cooking class, art show or class, fun experiences like go karts etc) in December or January.
I’m trying to find the cost per person as I’m going for the first time and I’m so excited. I’m having a weirdly hard time getting that info. Thank you :-)
I put my ballot in the mail this morning. It'll get through, right?
My partner goes to a clinic downtown called Outside-In and it's just circus after circus. They tell you to call at about 8:30 in the morning to make 'day of' appointments because they have no associated urgent care, but lately, they don't even have someone picking up the phone. The only way I was able to even make an appointment for them was to physically go downtown, which took 40-ish minutes give or take.
How is it legal to just not have anyone answering or returning calls? We've left over 10 cumulative voice-mails. Maybe it's a great clinic for people with addiction problems, but trying to get in contact with them or get a straight answer is like pulling teeth.
Struggling to find a good Halloween party tonight. Any ones to know about?
Clackamas county. Put in ballot box Monday eve. BallotTrax doesn’t show it’s received yet. The last alert was 10/16 saying they mailed it to me. The county elections office phone number has a busy signal when I call. Just wondering what the typically timeframe is for the tracking app to alert that it’s been received.
Wondering if this is one of those things that is so popular the crowds kill the fun.
I tried doing a wash-in treatment for my favorite jacket. Did my homework, bought one that was well rated, followed the instructions carefully, etc.
After yesterday's rain it became quite apparent to me that wasn't going to cut it. I love this jacket tho and would happily pay for a decent service if it could substantially improve the water resistant layer.
I'm not particularly outdoorsy so I don't know who to go to. I assume there's gotta be a service in town that will re-waterproof outerwear for a fee? Any recommendations?
I am moving away this weekend and my sister wants to take me out to eat before I go! What’s one place I absolutely have to try before moving?! TIA
When did I miss that the merger was successful? Kroger and Albertsons have merged. I heard and saw the opposition about not wanting it and that it was being stalled but when did it actually happen?
The kids are doing their own thing tonight, so my partner and I decided to do something just the two of us. I'm on the hook to pick the place (dread!). Any place that will have fun vibes tonight for dinner, etc. (non-alcohol-centric)?
I’m coming to Portland for the Sabrina carpenter concert on 11/7! Want to know where a good bar or club to go to after the concert! Any suggestions?
Hi everyone, I know this is a long shot but I'm really just seeking answers at this point.
I recently moved to Portland on October 11th and my voter registration remains in Pennsylvania, where I have lived my entire life until now. I requested a mail-in ballot on October 14th, the Monday after I secured an apartment in the South Waterfront area of Portland. In my experience, voting by mail in PA has been easy with my ballot arriving well within the 7-day voting period. I first assumed the extra time was simply from the fact the ballot now must go across the country. This time, my first ballot failed to arrive. I contacted my Director of Elections, where I am registered, and confirmed the correct address was used on my application. They then printed my replacement ballot on October 25h and mailed it October 28th according to the online ballot tracker. I didn't receive as of this morning, October 31st.
I want to make sure my vote gets counted, but I accept this may not happen at this point. I have been calling Multnomah Station but nobody picks up. I did call my local Voter Registration Office and they confirmed the address on file matches my current residence here in Portland, so it appears I did nothing wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated.
When my first ballot didn't arrive, I called the 1-800 USPS number and they gave me the info for Multnomah Station and told me to call them. I called seven times that day and had no luck. Tried again this morning and same issue.
My artist name is tjmaq, I am a producer/rapper/engineer, and I just moved to Portland couple months ago. A lot of music making is through the internet and somewhat hard to network and work with someone across the country. tjmaq on all platforms in case you wanna see if it’s your style or not. Let’s make some music.
Basically what it says. I got a new car and want to break it in going to the coast. I was thinking 20 over to Lincoln City area, but didn't know how that route is or what to expect. Better ideas?
Turns out I'm staying home with our 2 little ones today. Does anyone know of any fun daytime Halloween activities around town? Thank you.
Hey folks, does anyone know a spot in town selling lava lamps? My partner's kid wants one for her little cave under her lofted bed and her birthday is coming up. :)
I’m visiting Portland on Friday and leave on Sunday to go to Seattle. I really wanted to do a scenic road trip along the coast to Seattle. My plan was to go from Portland to Cannon Beach, then to Tokeland, and then Seattle. That was going to be about 6 hrs.
I posted a question about sunrises and mentioned that route and someone said the route wasn’t as pretty as I’d imagined it to be. Is that the general consensus? If so, thanks so much for the heads up lol. But also is there a better scenic route to take this time of year? 6 hrs is about as much I’d like to do. Definitely open to less I just really want some good PNW views. Thanks in advance!
Hey y'all, I'm look for a super relaxing and peaceful gift for my longtime friend/soon to be ex-roommate who's birthday is coinciding with her Masters completion. Seriously, any ideas on a special place to send her to to decompress from it all? Thank you all in advance
They are a US Citizen and have lived in the US a long time, but I want to take them where they may get more of a "back home" vibe, especially where English is not the primary language spoken (or at least not required). Portland Mercado has been suggested. Thx.
Hi all, I’m planning to visit Portland for strip club. I would like to know more about VIP rooms
Any experiences ? What should I need to do to make maximum? What will be the price?
Thank you in advance
Hello! I see you all had a beautiful sunrise this morning so this might be a great time to ask. I'm visiting Portland on Friday and would love to watch a PNW sunrise during my stay. What are some of the best spots for people to go to and watch the sunrise?
Also, when I leave Portland I'm taking the coastal highway route to Seattle. My plan is to wake up early and get to Cannon Beach and watch the sunrise there. However, it's possible I won't wake on time to drive there and catch the sunrise, so is there somewhere on that route that would be good to stop at and see the sunrise? Thanks!
A place where you can sit and gaze onto dozens of green hills...
Looking for events tomorrow! Thanks in advance ~
What does the bag policy look like? I've never been and want to make sure my purse is good to go
Other than the obvious TooGoodToGo what’s apps have you used to improve your day-to-day/month-to-month
Are there any recreational / more casual style choirs one could join around Portland? Not a professional group, just something a couple of old theater / choir kids could partake in for fun. Like the rec sports version of singing 🎶
What local TV or radio shows might be looking to book guests to chat about and promote a comedy show? I already know Hello Rose City and am looking for other opportunities to get the word out.
Thanks!
