Nail Salon in NE Portland?

Am moving to NE Portland to move in with my boyfriend, and I’m looking for places to get acrylics, any recommendations? The place I’ve gone before for manicures and pedicures will be too far to go back for once I move but it’s the only place I’ve gone before

Photo of location of parking ticket?

Question: is it possible to see the photo(s) that the parking cop took of my car without having to go to court?

Background: I got a parking ticket in the mail today but never received one on my windshield. The offense occurred 2 weeks ago and was for parking in a "Reserved Zone". Since I didn't get the ticket on the day of the offense, I have no idea what I did wrong.

There are no hydrants or No Parking signs on the street. It wouldn't be for the Parking Zone because I am paid up. There are yellow curbs and there was construction on the street so there were a couple of temporary No Parking signs.

I'll pay the $85, I just wish I knew what I did wrong because I don't want to do it again. If I can avoid court, all the better!

Where to find indigenous made/sold bolo tie?

Kind of a ridiculous title, but I’m trying to find a bolo tie to wear for a wedding coming up—after a little research I discovered the neckwear is actually quite connected to Native American culture so I’d love to buy one made or sold by an indigenous creator or store owner! Any suggestions for folks around Portland? Thanks!

Rain clothing that actually looks good?

Does anyone have a recommendation for male rain fashion? I sometimes get envious of my friends who live in dry conventional autumn climates, as they can at least look stylish in their warm wear. But we more or less need to be prepared to wear a shell over everything here, and we all look plastic-baggy in the end. Has anyone here actually discovered water proof jackets/clothing that actually look stylish (if they even exist)?

Anyone know of any spooky fun or spooky places to hang out tomorrow night (Tuesday 10/29)?

My friend is going to be in town and it’s the only night we have to celebrate Halloween together. Unfortunately, Tuesday night is not a great night for clubs and it seems like most Halloween-themed events are waiting until Wednesday or Thursday. Looking for any and all ideas as long as it’s in the evening!

Cozy, quiet comfort food?

Imagine two people who are really stressed about the election. Imagine they are hungry for comfort food and want to sit in a quiet and cozy place to eat it.

Where would you send them?

Like what restaurants are like hugs?

Comfort food not limited to traditional American or European.

Cashier and waitstaff problems?

In the last two weeks I’ve had two occasions where I’ve been ignored by waitstaff. What’s going on with hospitality in this city? Seems unusual. First was at a popular sandwich shop in inner SE. I walked in and the cashier just looked at me then went back to his computer. We made eye contact and there was no “hi, hello, welcome in” or anything. It was awkward so I left. Today I went to a dive bar in inner SE I go to every once in awhile. The bartender asked me what I wanted then proceeded to not bring me my beer but rather chat with her coworkers for about 6 minutes. Again I just got up and left. What’s going on with the service industry here?

Does anyone else find Providence to be terrible?

I started a new job a few months ago. There is an employer provided plan through Providence. So far they have done absolutely nothing about my health problems, but put me thousands of dollars in the hole. I am wondering if anyone else has had the same experience, and if so what did you do?

Are there prime parking lots or roads you recommend for teaching a new driver the basics?

My partner is just about ready to start learning how to drive for the first time (not a teenager). I am wondering if anyone has a specific recommendation of where we can go learn slowly, that's better than just a random parking lot?

I've been out of practice for years, and a lot has changed since then. I'd love to get back into the lachey (swing) of things, but, y'know, safely.

How to get driver's license address sticker for new address?

I think I already know the answer but I have a driver's license from a couple years ago.. I've moved since then. In the past the DMV would sent a new address sticker to put on the license with a barcode, etc.

I'm having a hard time sometimes opening an account with a driver's license with an outdated address on it that doesn't match current address. :( To make matters worse.. I'm a nurse so I actually move around quite a bit and usually do Airbnbs in the city for months at a time.

I'm not sure what to do. I know they don't formally issue stickers for new addresses any more. But it can be very hard opening a new bank account or credit card, etc.

Anyone else experienced this situation? Any alternative or solution.

Oh and most banks do accept copies of utility bills or rental agreement. But with Airbnb.. I generally don't have either. So it makes it even more essential if I could simply get an updated address for my Oregon driver's license.. but also my address sometimes changes every several months so forking over $100 or whatever it costs now for a new driver's license isn't practical either

Recommendations for tools in store?

I have always ordered stuff online, or through work. But prices are going crazy and I often am trying to get specific stuff. Does anyone have a recommendation for a store with specific, quality tools in Portland? All the better if it happens to be a place that can warranty them in store but I know that's a sort of dying concept.

For reference, brands like knipex, klein, wiha, wera, etc.

Has anyone purchased a used car recently that did a pre purchase inspection with a mechanic that they would recommend?

I have an amazing mechanic but he is always booked out several days, sometimes up to a week.

Where can I get a hand blown glass piece fixed?

I’m looking for a place or person who can fix the tip of a piece I bought from South Africa that I stupidly knocked over. It’s reminiscent of my father, who loved elephants, for who I bought it for. He has since passed, and I’ve been looking to find ways to commemorate him and thought if possible some of his ashes could be fused with it during repair, if possible. Any recommendations are highly appreciated!

Where to get car key fob copied?

I lost my car key fob last week. Luckily I had a spare I'm using now, but I'd like to make another copy just in case. Where's the best place to go? I will also be calling the dealer I bought it from to ask.

Anyone had a clutch replaced on 00-06 Civic (7th gen) recently?

Where did you take it and how much did it cost? I was just quoted $2,300 for replacing the hydraulic cylinders and clutch plate and that seems waaay off.

Good employers in the sustainability/renewables/housing sectors PDX?

I recently got burned in the commercial solar industry by toxic work culture. My background is in building science, energy efficiency, renewables, sustainability and project management - all construction adjacent. At this point the quality of the employer, work/life balance, benefits, and having good coworkers is most important to me... Is anyone happy with their employer in this sector? Open to public/private/non-profit but with a good in-person presence.

My Vote says "A ballot was sent to the address below on October 24, 2024." Does that mean mailed or delivered?

Just wondering if I need to request a new one because I definitely didn't receive mine on the 24th. This is my first time voting in Oregon so I want to make sure I'm on top of things!

Vegas > Portland. Should I do it?

I'm a Vegas native looking to start new. Prices have skyrocketed since Vegas is overwhelmed with new residents while our salaries remain stagnant and low. I have a partner and two dogs, no kids.

While it's nice to have heat and sunshine all year round, the quality of life here is poor. Air quality is shit and most of our life is spent indoors in A/C since there aren't many outdoor friendly things to do during the summer unless you go to a nearby water park or access to a pool. Not to mention the stupid high energy bill prices since we have the A/C running all year round. I've lived here my entire life and would like to see what the world is like outside of Nevada.

Some questions:

  1. What is it like to live in Portland?
  2. How's the quality of life and work life balance?
  3. Are there a lot of job opportunities?
  4. How is cost of living and what is a comfortable salary to live oft of?
  5. Are there a lot of job opportunities that have a hybrid or remote format?
  6. Any perks or benefits I should know about when becoming a new resident of Portland?

Thank you in advance for your insight!

Moving to Portland?

Hi everyone. I might be moving to Portland for work. For context, I’m from Boston, so I’m used to living in a safe, walkable city with transit. The job is not guaranteed, but I wanted to scope out the city before moving forward. What neighborhoods would you recommend based on walkability, safety, and access to transit? Thanks in advance
