Is there anything that could go wrong? Cause I have a feeling there is, but cant come up with anything specific. If I back it up somewhere else, do I use another cloud device, or like a local memory stick?
Hi guys.
I have samsung phone with Onedrive to backup my files. I'm synchronzing my phone photo gallery with Onedrive. Right now, when i remove photo from my phone it will be removed from folder on the computer, also if i remove photo from computer it will be removed from phone (in the synchronized folder).
I will like to make a automatic copy of all photos which I'm taking without synchronizing it.
I would like to have folder with all photos copied from my phone, and later sort it and move them to other folders without deleting photos from phone. Idea is to have folders "christmas 2023", "vacation 2024".
Dropbox was working that way ...
Sorry for my english. I hope evrything is clear

Click that top left app grid and then click its OneDrive app icon.
If you click the center left OneDrive icon it will not show usage. Spent 15 minutes trying to figure this out. Love ya M$...

I take a lot of photos and videos on my samsung phone, now I am running into space issues and there are no options for a memory card (just external USB which is not a good solution)
I was wondering if Onedrive is a good solution and also is if there is the ability to have the photos automatically stored in Onedrive and not on the phone? So that when I look at the photos on my phone its actually the onedrive storage?
There are a few folders like this one.

This is a new windows install, about 30 days only, and sice day one I saw this bug. I was waiting, and hoping, that 24h2 would fix it, but nope.
Any ideas?
I'm still on the old one on Samsung S22+.
Microsoft desperately needs to fix video playback on mobile
I’m trying to watch videos I upload on OneDrive through the mobile app and it’s painfully slow.
Takes ages to open and once open it constantly buffers. What’s even worse though is the quality , even after setting it to full (requires setting it every single time) , the full resolution still doesn’t get applied. This happens on a videos even shorts ones of 10s
OneDrive already way behind in the backup photos category , if they want to compete with iCloud and especially google photos , they desperately need to fix a simple issue … video playback. You can hardly watch any video at this rate.
I was looking to switch from Google One to Microsoft 365 and needed an easy way to move my files and photos. I tried Google Takeout, but it wasn't quite what I wanted. Not sure how many of you are aware of this, but with the latest update, Microsoft made it super simple to import Google Photos and Google Drive files into OneDrive.
Here's how: On the OneDrive mobile app, go to settings and select "Import Cloud Photos and Files." Once you connect your Google account, OneDrive will automatically import everything in the background.Has anyone else tried this yet? Let me know your thoughts!
Hi everyone,
As my phone storage is coming to an end soon, I want to upload some of my pictures to OneDrive. I already created some folders on my phone with the same structure as in OneDrive. However, when uploading those pictures, I do not get the same sorting as on my phone. Even though I mark all pictures in the folder at the same time, OneDrive seems to upload them in an arbitrary order. As I want to include pictures that I took myself and WhatsApp pictures in the same folder, sorting them by file name will not be a solution. Therefore, I tried sorting them via date, but OneDrive uses the upload date which does not work, as it uploads all the pictures in an arbitrary order.
Is there a workaround for my problem? I already checked online, but did not find a proper solution. Furthermore, I asked Microsoft support, but they told me there is no solution to my issue: https://answers.microsoft.com/de-de/msoffice/forum/all/onedrive-sort-pictures-by-date-taken/c0a0314e-2fd4-4fb3-b3f8-7b642fc17cbf?messageId=96d975f5-2937-495d-8c31-94dbfbaf5822 I know this question has been issued in this sub before, but for some reason I cannot comment on that post.
Thanks a lot for your help!
So I purchased a yearly family plan to back up all my photos (almost 1TB in RAW file format) and to be able to see them and edit them from any of my devices. I uploaded some of the photos and I am unable to see the thumbnail for any of them, I can only see a grey square or the usual mountain&sun icon. I’m having this issue in all the devices (Macbook, Iphone, Ipad), in all the browsers (safari, google, brave) and in the app as well.
I tried looking for solutions online (download the file and upload it again, reset devices, stable connection, internet settings, onedrive settings…) nothing works.
I contacted OneDrive a week ago and, a part from having to wait 1 full day to get a response every time, they only come back to me with the basic solutions (the ones I mentioned before).
Also, sometimes I’m able to see the preview of the photo for a couple of seconds, but when I open it the quality is horrible. The only thing that works is to download the file, then I can see it full quality, but then OneDrive loses it’s point (having everything accessible in the cloud, not taking up storage in your devices).
Does anyone have the same problem or an idea of what I can do to fix this? Thought this thread could be way more useful than OneDrive support service…
Thank you all!

I have noticed this behavior several times with OneDrive, and it's enough to make me fully uninstall and go back to physical backups of everything. OneDrive seems to "randomly" overwrite documents with old versions, sometimes MONTHS-old versions, and deletes all version history of that document.
I think I finally know what causes the issue. If you're working across multiple platforms, and one of those platforms is powered down, on booting the system that was shut down will sometimes overwrite everything on OneDrive with the file versions it has stored locally. Version history is lost because OneDrive accepts this new "old" version as "current" and discards any version numbers conflicting with or exceeding the "old" version.
This bug has caused HUGE amounts of headache for me and my team. At least now we (think we) know what's causing it.
So I have been paying for office 365 and want to store some videos and pictures that I’ve taken throughout the years.
Starting next week I’ll have 1000/1000 fiber.
What is the max upload speed I can do with OneDrive?
Wasted so much of my time, disabled onedrive because it is most counter productive app on my computer. Forcefully trying to shove a terrible product down people's throat...
Hello,
I have uploaded everything I own in terms of pictures, files, pdf etc. for several years now. Some of them even twice and three times. Now I wanted to start sorting and sorting out my Onedrive. What is the best and fastest way? Are there any extensions for the browser or any tools for this or how do you go about it?
Thanks a lot!
Hi all,
I want to create a folder to my Onedrive for Business and share it between 5 individuals.
Into this folder I will have only 3 xlsx files (file1.xlsx, file2.xlsx,, file3.xlsx).
I want to strict access to these files (eg only user1 will have write access to file1.xlsx, user2 will have write access to file2.xlsx).
Which is the best way to achieve this?
Thanks in advance!
Hi. I'm after a bit of advice, we run an ecology business and take a lot of video files, we need to share these with clients. The current process is creating a folder for the project, and uploading the video files and sharing that folder with the client. They can then view the files and we delete after 30 days of access or when they're done.
My question is, currently, uploading the 10-15GB worth of video files ties up a machine while copying the files from the SD card to the OneDrive folder. Is there a smoother/easier process? Is uploading via the web interface a better solution because you're not then essentially having to put it in two places (the local machine, and then the upload to OD) ???
Any pointers/advice welcome. Thanks!
I was pulling my hair out because this problem began with the latest Quicken update. After reading many posts and turning off every sort of synch and cloud backup mentioned, I discovered that one drive was indeed backing up my Quicken backup files. The solution was simple. Right-click and invoke"always keep on computer" or something to that effect. Bingo, no more problem. Another interesting thing was the program "blanked" and asked for the vault password before presenting main page again.
I love that OneDrive modifying filepaths and not cleanly uninstalling has now turned into a war against the program's dirty path structure breaking other programs.
Did I say love? I meant deeply despise.
Hey everyone!
I'm excited to share a Chrome extension I've developed called "OneDrive Direct Download Link Generator." It's completely free to use and install, and I think it could be really useful for many of you who frequently share OneDrive files.
Key Features:
• Instantly generates direct download links for OneDrive files
• Works with both personal and business OneDrive accounts
• Saves time and streamlines file sharing
Why I created it:
I found myself constantly needing to share OneDrive files but do not want then to open in the browser like a word document. The ones that I've found were no longer working.
How to get it:
You can install the extension for free from the Chrome Web Store https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/direct-download-links-for/jnndhddpabmgbafgghkgfkgcgnmnmiba?authuser=0&hl=en
I have also create a web version here: https://mokachat.com/onedrive-download-link-generator if you are not using chrome
I'd love to hear your feedback and suggestions for improvement. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments!
Thanks for checking it out!
If you create a CSV file in Onedrive, then click on it, the system will immediately convert it to an XLSX file and delete the CSV file. I just lost an hour of work trying to work around this insanity, but it seems to be a known bug going back at least five years.
It's trivial to replicate this ridiculous design flaw: Just upload a CSV file to OneDrive on the web, then click on the CSV file
I started receiving emails from OneDrive titled “Your memories from this day”. There appear to be my saved photos from the day but from past years. Now, I’m not real technical, but it seams to me that to create this email Microsoft had to hack into files I have on OneDrive to create the email and send it to me. If they can do it with pictures, then they can hack into any of my files and send them in an email to anyone. I thought my files were safe on OneDrive; I guess not.
So I recently got a Macbook air and like many others, was a little disappointed with the OneDrive app. Mainly with it's inability to execute on its core feature of syncing files but also with battery usage.
Is there enough demand for me to build an alternative? One that hopefully functions as you'd expect from a cloud storage client in 2024.
I'm looking for advice/help. I am used to using Box. My prior four employers all used it, so I have a lot of experience with the program. However, I am the new CEO at a small organization (36 members) that recently moved to OneDrive (about 2 weeks before I got in my position). I hate it. It seems like the smallest thing messes up syncing files. My staff try to open files and get errors that say the file is open somewhere else - but it's not. I also do not like that OneDrvie does not show me file revisions and what my staff done to each document - if that feature is available, I've not seen it yet.
I am wondering if this is a case of someone (me) who does not want to learn something new or if others have similar issues. I am so close to pulling the pin and migrating our team to Box.
Is there any way to force onedrive client to accept syncing to a folder on a remote drive? i have a hd connected to another pc that I access remotely, and want to have my onedrive folder there.
I've tried soft/symbolic linking and junction to no avail.
It can be on either windows or mac. No, i cannot use original pc to have the onedrive there.
I tidied up my work OneDrive today for a fresh start. To do so, I deleted everything. In my folder, there is a shortcut to a OneDrive folder from a MS Team.
Here's where I think I went wrong: On the online version, it doesn't even let you delete that folder - you can only 'remove' it, which then unlinks it. If you 'select all', there isn't even an option to delete.
Windows user through and through, I know that deleting a shortcut is no big deal. So, when I selected all of my files and folders including the MS Teams one, *on OneDrive for Mac*, I deleted everything in that Teams folder. I only noticed my fauxpass in the coffee break when everyone was panicking about all the files from our shared folder disappearing.
Luckily, I managed to restore it all from the files section on MS teams.
Lesson learnt. I hope I grasped correctly where I went wrong. Feel free to point out anything else. I am just a bit worried that it still disrupted some of my co-workers' work as they had actively been working on documents saved on there.
I have a file appearing in my OneDrive (personal) "Recent" view that was shared by someone else back in 2022. It appears both online (at https://onedrive.live.com/) as well as in the OneDrive Mobile App. Screenshot below:
I don't want to see (or anyone else to see) this file. But I can't figure out how to hide or delete it from the list. The original owner of the file has disappeared and I cannot contact them to "unshare" it or delete it from their account.
I've read and tried to follow the steps from https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/delete-files-or-folders-in-onedrive-21fe345a-e488-4fa7-932b-f053c1bebe8a under the Remove items from your Recent list heading, but they don't match what actually is visible on the site (there's no "circle check box").
How can I permanently hide or remove this unwanted file from my view?
Here is a link to MY POST at answers.microsoft.com describing the issue:
I can't receive E-mails anymore on my 15 year old hotmail, my desktop is and all my files are gone and every time I open up Onedrive to try and make it stop, it automatically begins syncing right away, and then because it's so busy syncing 1000's of files at once the entire systems shuts down and freezes.
I've restarted my pc and Onedrive over and over again and the same thing keeps happening. Autosync (god knows which files it's trying to sync but seems like it's my entire pc at once) and then 5 seconds later the Onedrive app stops responding and I can't change anything. Mind you it's still running full power and overclogging my 3000$ PC. which I now consider ruined.
Thanks Microsoft, and thanks Onedrive! What was suppose to be a nice Saturday chillin' off work, has turned into a digital nightmare.
I made a tool to download Live Photos from OneDrive, since their video part cannot be seen by OneDrive desktop client anymore.
