Trying to figure out how some people journal for years while some give up

I am doing a human behaviour study for my thesis project. I want to understand why some people journal while others don't. How do people keep going while some give up?

It'll be awesome🥺❤️ if you can help answer these few questions. (It'll take 5 mins)

https://forms.gle/e9kPYXuJqSXKixyc8.

While I have nothing to give in return, here is a link to vibing cat 🐱: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUYvbT6vTPs

P.S.: I hope the cat convinces you to fill out the form! And I promise to email you anything unique I find.

I love my Journal; So, I created some!

Hi everyone!

I've been an avid journal writer since high school, I absolutely love it. It's a great tool to release the stress of the day, or to keep your thoughts and goals in order. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have the option to get my thoughts on paper .... there's just something so relaxing about it.

Being laid up and unable to work recently, I needed to figure something out for some passive income. I thought, why not combine what I love with an easy way to potentially make a few dollars.

I would like some feedback on the products I've made if you find you have some extra time! I would like to tailor to other writers to increase my chances of selling some :)

December’s notebook cover. I’m using loose leaf paper in a binder so December is more about keeping a daily writing practice. I also hope to work on rewriting my NaNoWriMo novel. What are your December goals?

December prompts!

Here's some multi-page drawing prompts to fill the time until the holidays! They're deliberately un-Christmassy for the sake of your brains, if (because) you're probably sick of the holiday cheer.

  1. Timed figure drawing! Go here or here for a timed figure challenge.

  2. character design! draw/write the following pages for each character:

-Iconic look and pose

-Personality and context

-associated objects (what's in their pockets?)

-a scene fron their story!

  1. Find a window (or five) and sketch what's outside of them. This one makes a good timed challenge! When you finish one, move to the next window.

  2. imagine the view from your dream house. do you have a garden? are you high above the clouds? What about pets?

  3. Cartoon practice! find some references and draw your favorite simple cartoon characters.

  4. crossover cartoons! Now you have some practice, draw the characters interacting with each other.

  5. Draw as many different animals as tou can think of! Look up reference photos to copy for practice.

  6. invent some chimeras ( animal mashups). they can be cartoons or realistic! Try seeing how many variations on one combination you can do.

  7. Draw the contents of your desk! Try grouping them in interesting, overlapping piles to practice observational drawing.

  8. what do the contents of your desk say about you? draw a version of your desk setup that would reflect your personality.

October prompts!

Inktober is on! If anyone's interested in the challenge, let everyone know in the comments and enjoy! For the less visually inclined, however, here are some mixed creative writing and journalling prompts to give you something to play with.

  1. Consider the feelings that you associate with a particular color. Who might feel this way? When have you felt these emotions?

  2. Write a scene using as many color descriptors as you can! Then rewrite the scene to pare them down to what feels best.

  3. Write a scene that conveys as much as you can of a particular color without using any color descriptors!

  4. Think about what technology could look like in the next 20 years. How do you think you'll react?

  5. Puzzle time. How do you feel when faced with a puzzle that's too hard to solve? Have you faced one? For fiction writers, what puzzles could you face?

  6. Write about your favourite characters. what would it be like to meet them? What makes them your favourites?

  7. What do you need in life? What are your bare essentials? How do you think your life would be different if those were all you had?

  8. Take a poem you like and analyse it. How do different lines make you feel? Can you apply it to a character in a story?

  9. How do you think you'd react if you found a shrine to you in someone else's home?

  10. What's your greatest fear? Write about a time you faced it, or the process of figuring out what it is.

  11. You know you locked up, but now you've found an open window. How will you react? How do you feel about it?

  12. Let a reader get to know you. If you died, what record would you want to leave? What would be left to preserve?

  13. Who's that standing behind you?

It isn’t exactly a monthly notebook - will probably take 2-3 months to finish - but I’ve been writing daily since Sept 1st and I’m quite pleased with my progress!

September prompts!

Here's some creative writing ideas for this month's Monthly notebook!

  1. "The moment I heard it, I knew I was in deep trouble."

  2. Two little kids make up a magic game based on the things in your room. How does the magic work? What characters do they play?

  3. Put your music on shuffle, and take inspiration from the first song that comes on. Who's singing? Are they the main character?

  4. Pick a number between 2 and 7. Now imagine a team of that size; what do they do? Are they superheroes, bank robbers, detectives... What distinguishes each member of the team?

  5. People watching time! Find a public place and look around. Write a three-sentence story about each person who catches your eye.

  6. Write a fable, starting with the moral (or "moral") you want to prove and setting a story to it.

  7. Run through the rainbow! Write a story or a description themed around each color.

  8. Time for a deconstruction: Pick a character you think is mentally unhealthy, and send them to therapy!

  9. "That's... not what was supposed to happen." "You THINK?"

  10. Go to the random Gutenberg books page and pick a book from the front page. Write a scene or a plot outline based on just the book cover!

  11. Write a script for a comic book you wish existed!

  12. Modernize your favorite (or least hated) "classic" book from English class.

  13. Write a story about magical jewelry! Is the jewelry a reflection of the person? Or maybe a tool for performing charms?

  14. Imagine a character (yours, or just a favorite) on a reality show. What show are they on? Who do they hate? What do they say when interviewed?

  15. Turn a pop culture icon on its head. Take the story of Superman, Sherlock Holmes or Red Riding Hood and take it someplace new!

Prompts for July: visual journaling!

Note: This isn't prompt-a-day, sadly, since I ran out of ideas! If anyone comes up with more, comment and I'll add them to the body for reference.

Draw and write your thoughts!

I've written some prompts to help people fill their Monobos, or at least add some fun material to this sub for each month.

This month, I've tried to come up with ideas that work well for combined drawing and journalling. Remember, you don't have to be "good at art" to have fun drawing these!

  1. Look around. What are the objects nearest to you? Do they have stories? Do they evoke emotions or memories?
  2. Pick a friend or acquaintance. How would you describe them? What stories can you tell about them? Do you associate some object(s) with them? Draw them realistically and/or make a caricature!
  3. Put your music on shuffle (if you still use physical media, close your eyes and grab something at random). Listen to a song or album. What images does it evoke? Is there a story you could write around it? What memories do you think of when you hear it?
  4. Picture yourself at three different ages (even in the future if you like!). What do you look like? What's your view of the world? Do you think they're wrong about something?
  5. Revert to childhood. What's your dream fantasy pet? Why? What does it look like? Did you have a different fantasy pet when you were little?
  6. What's your favorite ever vacation? Where did you stay? Does anywhere you went stick out?
  7. Pick your favourite room in your home (past or present). What do you like best about it? What's the main color? Do you like it in spite of something?
  8. What makes you feel happy? Food, places, experiences, people, things to do...
  9. Personify a concept or a feeling. What does it look like? Write an open letter to it.
  10. Look at your hands. Draw them! What do you do with them? What would you like to do with them? Do you/did you have interesting calluses or scars?
  11. What's your favourite story? What does it look like in your imagination? Why is it your favourite? Is there anything about it that's like your life?
  12. If you won the lottery, what would you buy? Would you rather become famous or keep your money secret? Would you buy things for others?
  13. Icons! Pick some concepts, some feelings, some objects. How simple can you make a picture of them and still be clear what it is? How short a description can you write without using the item's name?
  14. If you have a favourite poem, write it down and illustrate it! What do you love about it? Is it connected to a memory for you? When did you first read it?
  15. If you don't have a favourite poem, go here and pick a poem off the list. Have you heard it before? What do you think of it? Make some beautiful illustrations!
  16. What have you bought in the past week? Month? Year? What stands out? Is there anything you regret buying?
