With the construction going on full swing by the old toll plaza. A sweeper seemed to kick a bunch of road debris onto the single open westbound lane. Had to slam my brakes to avoid hitting the big pieces and still managed to crack my lower deflectorā¦..fucking pissedā¦

Hey Lakeland!
Iām a student journalist from USF, looking into what itās like to use a city-run utility. Iād love to hear your thoughts:
1. What has your experience been like with Lakelandās public energy utility?
2. If youāve lived elsewhere with private utilities, do you feel the rates and service quality are better or worse than with private companies like Duke Energy?
3. How responsive has the public utility been during emergencies or outages?
4. Do you think having a city-run energy utility gives residents more influence over energy decisions?
5. If you had the option, would you stick with a public utility, or prefer a private one?
Feel free to comment or message me if youāre open to sharing more. Your response may be used in my article, and I might reach out for a more in depth interview. Please feel free to DM me if you are interested!
Thanks
Good morning Lakeland. I have an interview coming up with the city and wanted to see if any of yāall work / have worked in the cities fleet department. I have a few questions. Thanks in advance!
I moved here about 10 months ago for work, leaving my family and friends behind. The woman I moved here with and I broke up a couple months ago and Iām not having the best time dealing with the sudden loneliness. I am in my 30s, work full time and try to stay active and take care of myself. I would love to find a group that works out together and pushes each other. I feel like I should have moved to Tampa or Orlando and just dealt with the commute because I dont see many people around my age still getting after it and trying to be better. No hate if thatās you, I get it and Iāve been there. Iām not at that place in life anymore and I want more. Lmk what you guys think I should do or if thereās an obvious option Iām not seeing. Thanks š¤

A few days ago I sent the following email to R Rep. Scott Franklin (scott.franklin@lakelandgov.net) and submitted this question to his website. He has yet to answer.
Dear Representative Franklin,
As a resident of Lakeland, FL, and a constituent who values the integrity of our democratic process, I am writing to express my concern regarding the role Congress plays in ensuring fair and transparent elections. In 2020, you voted to object to the certification of certain states' Electoral College results, despite those results having been certified as accurate through audits, recounts, and court rulings. This decision raised concerns about the potential for elected officials to undermine public faith in our democratic process.
With the 2024 election approaching, I ask if you would confirm your commitment to respecting the certified results of this election and to refraining from actions that might interfere with its outcome. Such a commitment would help restore and strengthen public confidence in our elections, regardless of the results.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. I look forward to your confirmation.
Sincerely,
Lakeland, FL

Has anyone else in N Lakeland observed a low flying small plane tonight? I mean like at 200'. Started at around 7:00, flying back and forth N-S and S-N. Looked like a twin engine Beechcraft, going way too fast to be spraying for mosquitos.
Hi all , I was wondering if anyone here works for Amazon on county line , what are the working conditions like? Is it a good place to work ? Terrible place to work ? Are options for advancement good? Iāve read several reviews online about working for Amazon but I know things vary from one worksite to another so I was curious about the one in our area

Hey there! Iām looking around for a spot to move to in lakeland. Itās just me, I live a simple life and donāt have many expenses. The only nice thing Iād like is some spot with some privacy to go out back and get some sun. My budget is extremely limited, I donāt care for luxury - just donāt want to step outside my place and get stabbed. Someplace around central or downtown lakeland would be sweet!
Anyone have ideas of finding a spot like this, besides googling āapartments for rent near me?ā

There are plenty of bars and good food and live music here and there in Lakeland. But, with all the lakes we have, why are there no bar & grills on a lake with live music? Seriously, am I completely missing something? Why do I need to drive 45 minutes or more to enjoy music and a cold beer by the water? Dukes and their retention pond, no. The Joinery... not exactly the vibe I'm looking for. And Garden Bistro does a nice Sunday brunch. You all know what I'm talking about though.
I have 12 student/learning guitars that were gave to me and they only need strings on a few of them. I would be interested in donating them to a youth music program if there is anything like that around here?
Thanks
I am working on my mail in ballot and I am a bit confused over what this ballot measure is supposed to do. I can't find any context online about what it actually means in practice. Is this a "save money" ballot measure that means we are cutting corners and/or keeping elected officials jobs more secure or is this something that would actually do something good?
