Humans: it took me an hour to get home today from my job in South Lakeland. That’s insane! I might as well work in Tampa or Orlando lol The reasons I live here such as little to no traffic are no longer benefits. An hour because of traffic when it’s usually 30 min is insane. What is going on??
I was having a neighborly chat with my next door neighbor and he mentioned that just like Fluoride, education is causing communism and cyanide poisoning in developing brains. My granddaughter is receiving education. Should we ban education?
Goodbye Fluoride! Goodbye Education!

Moving to Winter Haven in the next month. What is the best/cheapest/most reliable internet provider for the area if there are options? I’ll be in the southeast part of town near Legoland.
I am looking into seeing if anyone does that really deep clean both inside and out and maybe could touch up the paint for minor scratches. Is there anywhere I can get any quotes?

Hello r/WinterHaven community,
Assuming that you all are residents of Winter Haven, Florida. May you all please do my survey for my Highschool science project for my Environmental Class. It is a survey that I am going to use to calculate the relationship between Income Level and Ecological Footprint in Winter Haven, hence the need for survey takers in Winter Haven. I would really appreciate it a lot if you guys are able to do the survey, as it would help give me more accurate and varied data. The survey will likely only take 1-2 minutes and your answers are anonymous since the survey does not require any sign up or identification.
Here is the survey: Environmental Systems & Societies Survey
Thank you to all of those who take the survey, I appreciate it so much.
I just adopted a 6-month old from a family who was not prepared to have a dog.
I need to take this pup to the vet and get him checked out and vaccinated. Generally I would love to have a one-and-done in terms of finding a good fit Vet for him.
Breed: Dalmatian
Looking for: a Vet that cares, does not rush our appointment slot, & affordability.
Additionally: if you have any insights to vaccination clinics etc - I’ll take that info too.
Thank you!
Hello all, we are considering moving to Winter Haven from Lake County Florida. Where we live has gotten very expensive and crowded. We stumbled across Winter Haven through my work and the town looks so nice and welcoming. How is the quality of living in Winter Haven? Are there local jobs for young adults? Any thoughts about working at Lego land? We are a simple family of four with two older teenagers, who are looking to move to a safe place. Something affordable, but not worried about getting shot. Suggestions?
Let me know where I can get some gas in the winter haven area foreal
My friend can’t get in touch with his mother in Winter Haven. How are things there? I read that cell and power were out earlier today - I hope you all are doing ok down there.
Let me know if any one needs help on their yard will work all day if I have to. Reply to this post.
I have friends who live on East Lake Fox Drive and evacuated, and cannot contact neighbors or folks in the area. How is the damage there? Thanks in advance.
Running lower than I would’ve liked already. Has anyone noticed any gas stations around that seem to have active pumps again?
Hope you all are safe and hanging in there.
I have family that lives about 2 min driving distance from the entrance of Legoland and I haven’t heard anything back from them in hours. Could anyone tell me how are things in the area?
I’m in Miami and I’m going to try to get up there asap if I don’t hear from them.. I’m very worried.
Thank you all for your help, please stay safe.
UPDATE:
I just heard from my family. Aside from lack of power and minor damages to their house they are ok.
It's been quiet for about 25 mins now and I can't tell if we're in the eye of Hurricane Milton or it it's just done. 😭 (I'm assuming the former.)
Looks like the eye might literally pass us through, anyone concerned about the winds?
I know that this Hurricane will be beyond anything anyone has ever witnessed so I’m willing to bust my ass on helping getting all damages cleaned up from any bodies place or land after this hurricane gets passed us. I’m 27 from Texas but been in Florida since December 2023 and I’m not planning on leaving so if any one needs help please don’t hesitate to reply to this post , I’m currently in winter haven and been really irked to work already, Please be safe out there any one and follow proper directions to evacuate, sadly I won’t be able to evacuate, I’m beyond broke 😭but feel free to contact me after this is all over! Names Jay.
I'm going to Tampa to ride it out in my house over there. I wondering if I should board up my SW facing windows.
Has anyone heard the forecasted wind speeds will be?
Any concerns with flooding here in Winter Haven? What about power outages?? Just curious as to any prior experiences as far as this goes. Thanks so much!
Anyone here worried about the hurricane?
Anywhere in the Winter Haven area sell pre-made Thanksgiving meals, or casual restaurants having a Thanksgiving menu? TIA!
UPDATE 23Oct
Greeting, All! I'm sorry for being incommunicado, I spent more time than I expected in Tampa for Milton and then got kidnapped by friend to go to III Points in Miami.
So, when we last spoke, we were talking about trying to get together. So let's throw out some days and times. As for me, I can be available 24/7!
If someone wants to create a discussion group that would be great.
just relocated here from Tampa. After some marriage counseling, my wife and I decided that we were growing apart, and we are having a completely amicable divorce that is very upsetting for both of us.
Anyway, the therapy led to some epiphanies about my own mental health that has given me a lot to think about and work on. (I know this is a REALLY WEIRD post, but stick with me, I’m going somewhere with it.)
So, I bought a house here and took 6 months off work to “work on myself.” (I know, I roll my eyes every time I use that term too.) I had to get out of Tampa, because everything reminds me of her, and I chose WH because it seemed like a nice quiet place with very few distractions. Ideal to concentrate on healing.
Also, I have noticed some posts on r/GenX of people sharing some of their struggles and seeking advice.
So, with this in mind, I was wondering if any local GenXers would be interested in forming an informal mutual support group that meets regularly to discuss stuff we are dealing with and sharing techniques that we are using to deal with them. I’ve realized that I have completely ignored my own mental health for my entire life; to the extent that I sometimes feel that I have deprived myself of a lot of happiness. Because of GenXers unique childhood experience and associated trauma (another eye roll), I know that our mental health isn't something that most of us don't think about. As Robert Smith said, "Boys Don't Cry." So, I am pretty confident that we all could benefit from taking inventory of our psychological and emotional state.
I am excited to see how this gets received and feel free to message me if you are not comfortable posting your reply publicly.
I apologize if this massive "overshare" violates any sub policies or was too weird or cringy for anyone. Everyone have a stupendous weekend!
