Free ways to meet people?

Hey! My 19 y/o cousin moved to Lafayette to be with his girlfriend who is going to Purdue and a few weeks into it, she dumped him 😅 Now he’s there alone with no friends in a year long lease and no extra spending cash. I’ve already had a talk about how dumb this was with him, but this is where we are now.

He’s asking me free ways to make some friends, and I offered up volunteering and a church. Other than that, I’m not a local and I’m drawing a blank.

What advice would you give a broke 19 y/o male who’s also not going to the local university? 🥲 thank you!!

ETA: he has a full time job M-F, just doesn’t make great money right now

Moving to the area next week, looking for some friends

Hey not sure if this is allowed, please remove if not lol. I’m moving to the Lafayette area next week, 28M. Love the outdoors, do a lot of wildlife and macro photography. Recently started tattooing as well. Any tips or places to meet new people would be appreciated!

If so, why and how can we fix it?

Don't be a jerk in the voting line!

I was in line to vote today at the Fairgrounds and the woman in front of me kept loudly asking her husband, "Do you think that person over there is a citizen?" I saw her say that about three or four different people and then point at them. Come on, Lafayette. We can do better!!!

Opinions or suggestions on acupuncture? Reiki?

I have never done either and would like to know how people feel about them.

I have been to a chiropractor numerous times, but I would like to try alternatives — aside from stretching and exercising — to release tension in my back muscles. I feel as though acupuncture would be more beneficial, but I don’t know enough about either of them quite yet.

Are there any places in West Lafayette/Lafayette that people think are trustworthy? Recommendations on places that actually make anxious people like me, comfortable? Thank you 😀

2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment in downtown Lafayette sublease for Nov and Dec 2024 and/ or Spring/ Summer 2025 - $900 (utilities included)

Looking for someone to subrent my furnished 2-bedroom apartment in the downtown Lafayette. It's a new apartment building, and it's very well-kept by the managing company. All the appliances and plumbing work impeccably. The unit has a washer and dryer, a dishwasher, and central air. Bus 23 stops right across the street from the building. Purdue is within a 40 minute walk/ 15 minute bike ride. If anyone is interested or knows someone who is interested, please DM me.

Biking downtown?

Hey all, I will be moving soon into Lafayette near IVT and I was wondering if it would not be a stupid idea to buy an electric bike? I am trying to not use my personal vehicle as much to save fuel and curious anyone here had any insights, thanks!

Harrison HS and WL Jr Sr HS

Please help me understand any difference between these two high schools in Lafayette-WL area. Is it curriculum, quality of instructions, class size, course offerings, admin, spending, etc? I know the West Lafayette school district has a more racially diverse student body that’s also main from wealthier and more educated households.

I read through the course catalog for WL Jr/Sr High and thought that it doesn’t have many CTE classes. Couldn’t find the course catalog for Harrison HS to make the comparison.

I personally went through public school systems from of two different states. Schools in first state only offered 5-7 AP classes total but the teachers were dedicated. Schools in the second state had unqualified teachers (i.e.the Spanish teacher spoke at elementary level and specialized in a home ec). Quality education in my mind include diverse offerings (both CTE and academic courses) and qualified/skilled/dedicated teachers.

Are Harrison and WL Jr Sr pretty much the same with the only difference being the student population?

Thank you.

ISO - Hair detangling professional for 8 year old little girl

Hi there. I have a bit of a unique situation that I REALLY need some help with. My neighbors have custody of their 8-year-old granddaughter. She is a wonderful child and has beautiful waist-length curly hair. 2 months ago Grandma suffered a brain bleed and had emergency brain surgery. She is STILL in the hospital so all day to day care has fallen on Grandpa. Grandpa has done his best but having raised 5 boys, he is completely clueless about caring for long curly hair. Unfortunately, it was 3 weeks before he realized how bad the situation was and reached out for help. I managed to get one side of her head detangled but I know when to call in a pro and this is my hail mary SOS to ANYONE with experience doing this. The right side of her head is one giant knotted matted ball and cutting her hair isn't an option.

To make matters worse she started a new school today and I did some fancy styling to hide the mess with a braid and hairbow (so she wouldn't get teased) but that was a bandaid over a bullet hole. Is there anyone out there who can detangle her hair or recommend someone who can do it and if so what are your prices? Thank you in advance.

hey..

i just know this is going to be really long, so bare with me. i don’t even know what to say tbh, but i’m just going to spill and hope that at least one person is interested. i moved here a couple months ago with my boyfriend who goes to purdue. i go to college as well, i just don’t go there. ever since i moved here from a few hours away, i’ve been really stressed, anxious, and honestly depressed. not because of the boyfriend though. i have a lot of family stuff going on right now, and it’s taking a humongous toll on me. my mom is really really sick, and my dad is in prison. i miss my sister and.. yeah.. i don’t even know. i miss my mom, and i wish that i could talk to her. she moved into a nursing home, where she says full time, during the beginning months of my senior year of high school. she’s 44, but doesn’t have much longer to live. my family doesn’t know how much longer she has, but it’s clear that it won’t be very long. she has a rare disease called Huntingtons, which has run in my family for a long time now. i feel like i’ve been doing horrible with college because of all the stress i’ve been under. i never want to go to my classes, so i don’t. i failed my math class, which i’m taking for the second time right now. i have like no friends and i just feel really alone sometimes. i’ve tried to make friends on here and in real life, but it seems to never work. i feel like no one wants to be friends with me, but i will say i also do a shitty job at trying as well. all i feel like i can do right now is cry. i’m only 19. i’ve watched my mom slowly get sicker and sicker all of my life, and it just feels so unfair. i love her so much, and i know she somehow loves me even more. she’s wheelchair bound, and can’t really have conversations anymore. all she does is suffer at this point, and there’s nothing that i can do about it. there’s no medicine or doctor that can save her. i think of her every day. i did talk to a professor i had during the last 8 weeks about this, but all they did was tell me how i need to be seeing a therapist about it all. i know that’s true, but it felt like a punch to the gut. i don’t talk a lot about what i’m going through, so hearing that just made me feel bad and feel like i don’t want to talk about it anymore, but i’m not okay, and i feel like i should talk about what’s going on with me, even if it makes me feel a little uncomfortable. at this point in my life i’m just very sad, and i wish i wasn’t, but it’s hard not to be when it feels like everything i’ve ever known is falling apart. i wish i was likable and i wish just so many things. i don’t know what i want to do with my life, i feel so lost and upset with the world. i used to be a person who reassured everyone and myself that everything happens for a reason, but after experiencing the grief of my mom, i feel like that can be an extremely rude thing to say, and now i don’t know that i believe that saying anymore. i don’t know what the point of me saying all of this is, but if you’ve made it this far, i’d love to hear something back. wether it’s advice or honestly anything. it all matters to me.

Rescued Stuffed Lamb Toy at Lafayette Fresh Thyme

I rescued this sweetie pie from the parking lot at Fresh Thyme/Hobby Lobby on South & Creasy. The Fresh Thyme manager is keeping it safe until it’s reunited with the child who lost it.

Family friendly restaurants

What are your recommendations for child friendly restaurants? We have 2 toddlers that are reasonably well behaved, but they are toddlers and so have their moments. We generally get a sitter to go out to dinner, but want to attempt making it a family outing. Thanks in advance.

Avoid South St between Sagmore Pkwy and I-65 this afternoon.

I have to drive home today and this road is already crowded enough. Rumors are, there will be goblins running up and down the street ready to steal your precious.
