I’m looking to take my dad fishing for his birthday, but I don’t know the best place to go in Lake Porter or Laporte county.
Someone told me big Maple Lake in Hobart is good but not sure

I just wanted to share the Merrillville High School was highlighted today as part of ABC7 Chicago Friday Flyover. I know Merrillville gets a bad rap sometimes but I wanted to share a positive story and emphasize the hard work the school has put in to improve itself. My wife and I are alums and our girls go there now and we are very proud of them.
Hi all,
I'm looking for a decent and reasonable auto body shop in NWI. Wife was coming home from work and hit a tire, which caused some damage to the front end of her car.
Im a 20 year old male looking to move out soon, but would like to stay in the area at least for now. Just looking for suggestions on places to rent that wouldn't kill my pockets every month and also wouldn't be too much of a distance from work.
Can't even get assistance if you tried to in NWI they have completely closed all portals because of too many applications 65-year-old parents can't even get help if they wanted to right now
I know the one in hammond has a Morning Star Veggie patty. Just wondering if any of the other locations have something better, like an impossible patty?
Hi everyone, I have a buddy who's going through a rough spot. He's openly admitted having a drinking problem yet refuses to join AA because "it's too religious ". Excuses I know. Are there other free groups or resources I can present to him from the region? I figure if I do the leg work for him he may have a better chance to join. Any help would be appreciated thank you!
Who's the maga cult member that puts up all those hilarious trump signs on 231 in st john. Thanks for the laugh every time I drive by them. Same as 2020, just funnier imo. How does anyone want a home in there?
Im in college and need places to do homework around nwi. I dont mind going to coffee shops but I also would like to find places that allow you to do homework without being obligated to pay for something😂 besides a library. I appreciate whatever recommendations yall got for me
My daughter and I went to Pro Nails in Chesterton a couple years ago to get basic pedicures, and it somehow ended up costing almost $100, not even including tips. I haven't gone since because I don't really have that kind of money to spare on extras like that, often. But my daughter has' been getting straight A's, so as a reward I said I'd take her to get our nails done soon. She'd get a manicure, and I'd get gel or acrylic (depending on the price of gel). I thought prices would be cheaper because she's so young (she's 10), but apparently they charge the same amount as an adult, and they didn't even give her the full pedicure treatment like I received. No hot towels on the legs or sugar scrub, etc. So that was kinda a bummer.
Where do you all go that is actually affordable for these services?
Did anyone catch the debate between McCormick and Braun? This race is very close but also very important.
Do you think Indiana has been run well with a supermajority republican government? If so, why?
Indiana ranks... #30 overall #50 in Natural Environment (#50 pollution & #33 air quality) #40 in Healthcare (also #40 in public health and health care quality) #40 Womens Equality #29 Economy #25 Education
But we are.. #9 Opportunity (but our growth is at #20 and business opportunity is at #36) #11 Business #23 infrastructure
If you are undecided, go back and watch clips or a recap of the debate.
I am registered to vote in Porter County and was wondering how people’s experiences were voting either early or in the primaries. I intend on getting to my polling place early on November 5th, and bringing anything they need from me to cast my ballot in person. Do I just need my state driver’s license? Or will they get picky and start asking for specific documentation?
My husband and I are due in November and would like newborn photos taken. I've heard of other hospitals with contract photographers that will take photos when your baby is born. Just wondering if anyone knows whether Community has a newborn photographer or we need to look for one ourselves? Thank you!
Has anyone filed a Citizens Complaint form against LE? What was process like?
Many Region residents cherish fond memories of earning personal pan pizzas through Pizza Hut's Book It! program as kids or of gathering around a booth at a Pizza Hut after a Little League or soccer game with a pitcher of pop and a few pizzas to share.
It came as a shock to many local residents when 15 Pizza Hut restaurants in Northwest Indiana were abruptly shuttered in June after Plano-based Pizza Hut terminated the franchise agreement with the local franchisee, which had defaulted on millions of dollars owed in payments.
Irving, Texas-based EYM Brands, one of Pizza Hut's largest franchisees, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is looking to sell all 127 of its Pizza Hut restaurants, including the 15 that were closed in Northwest Indiana.
A new owner likely would end up buying and reopening the shuttered Pizza Huts, which have now been closed for months. EYM owns several restaurant franchises across the country and its financial woes also led to the abrupt closures of KFCs in Valparaiso, Gary, Portage, Hobart and Michigan City in August.
Newport Beach, California-based National Franchise Sales was hired to auction off EYM's Pizza Huts in the South and Midwest as it looks to financially restructure to lower its debt load and streamline its operations.
After EYM Brands fell behind on more payments, Pizza Hut pulled the plug on its franchisee agreement and closed 15 EYM-owned locations, in Munster, Hammond, Schererville, Griffith, Hobart, Crown Point, Winfield, Cedar Lake, Lowell, Portage, Chesterton, Valparaiso, Michigan City and LaPorte. The company laid off about 206 Pizza Hut employees in Northwest Indiana, according to court records.
I have several pairs of jeans and some other clothing I would like to get tailored for a custom fit in the waist, hips, rise, etc. Does anyone know of a great tailor? Maybe even someone who makes custom clothes?
does anyone know what are good podcasts to listen to?
Region native Jim Gaffigan landed a high-profile role of spoofing Vice Presidential Nominee Tim Walz on Saturday Night Life.
Gaffigan, who grew up in Chesterton and graduated from La Lumiere School before playing football at Purdue University, impersonated the fellow Midwestern who now serves as the governor of Minnesota.
"Folks, I haven't been this excited since I got a 10% rebate on a leaf blower from Menard's," he joked by way of introduction in reference to Menard's 11% rebate program. "What can I say? I got that BDE: Big Dad Energy."
He also made jokes about wearing a Kirkland brand suit from Costco and freezing to a bench in a Minnesota winter.
His parody of Walz won many plaudits online with people saying he nailed it, was an inspired choice and was "one of the best casting decisions since they put Christopher Reeve in the Superman costume." Consequence described it as "absolutely perfect, no notes," while X user Ben Palmer tweeted, "Jim Gaffigan as Tim Walz might be the greatest casting in history."
The Wrap reported Gaffigan will play Walz for the entire season of "Saturday Night Live," the long-running sketch comedy show on NBC that's been a playground for comedy legends like Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy and Tina Fey.
Gaffigan is the son of the late Mercantile National Bank President Michael Gaffigan, who led the Hammond bank that was eventually acquired by Chicago's Harris Bank before it was bought by BMO.
Any salsa or bachata classes in the area?
Just wondering if any women in NWI take or have taken any fitness classes you really liked in the area?
Pros and cons of the places you’ve been?
My dad is looking for a group of older people who get together and walk or do anything other activities together. He's a very active guy and would like to meet some like minded people!
There's one he found, Walk with a Doctor I think? But they only meet like once a month and he wants to find something more consistent!
