Royal Indian Grocery new restaurant is FIRE

If yall never seen it, royal indian grocery is the Indian market/restaurant located close to notre dame (across from smoke time and next to Blarney Stone). They’ve finally opened their restaurant after being only a grocery store for a while, it’s so underrated imo. The food is so damn good. It’s authentic as fuck and different from most Indian food I’ve had around here in the best ways possible. My favorite things to get are the chicken tikka masala or butter chicken with garlic naan and rice, but they have a pretty wide selection of different dishes! The people who work there, especially the chefs are so kind and hardworking. It seems they’re just starting out and in the process of getting everything running smoothly, so be patient with em-if there’s a wait, it’s absolutely worth it. I’d highly recommend giving it a try!!

Karaoke tonight, 10/5/24?

Hiii!!! Newer to the southbend area... absolutely love to sing karaoke. Anyone know where some karaoke spots are in SB and what the daily spots are? I thought there was an impressive karaoke chart floating somewhere on this subreddit but it no longer exists.

Thanks!

Used DVD/BD Shops?

Hey, all! Recent transplant to the SB/Michiana area and have been desperate to find some good places for used media, particularly DVDs and Blurays. I know about Disc Replay in Mishawaka, and of course the Half-Price Books near there, but honestly the selection at both is pretty limited with HPB having somehow more than Disc Replay. Is there any other stores around that I’m missing? Anybody been to any of the other Disc Replay stores that have a larger movie and tv selection? Would love any recommendations!

The Eternal Flame of US 20

I recently started making regular drives to Goshen and headed east on US 20, about 2 miles before the exit for Goshen College, there's this torch that seems to burn always and forever. Anyone know what's being burned or why? I assume it's some agricultural related thing. This morning it was really reaching for the sky.

Chocolate similar to Sanaa Chocolate?

Sanaa chocolate is (temporarily?) closed. It's the best chocolate I've ever personally paid for in my life, and this includes MarieBelle chocolate in NYC.

I especially liked the tart fruit bonbons like raspberry. As good as the chocolate was, I think the strongly flavored fillings are what set it apart for me. The chocolate-covered dried oranges were another favorite.

Now that they're away, what other incredible luxury chocolate is available? Violet sky is good for bars of chocolate rather than truffles/bon-bons, and South Bend Chocolate Cafe is best for atmosphere or for "Here, I brought you a gift from my home city" while traveling.

Making female friends in 20s?

I (22F) recently moved back home from college and with it all my friends. I'm having trouble making some other female friends my age in the area. I live a bit farther north (Berrien Springs), but have a car and willing to make the treck. Most clubs I've seen are for moms or kids. I really get overstimulated in places like bars. I'm a bit more of a creative person, so I want to attend some events in the maker space but don't have the money to spend $40 on an event each week. I've been to some events at Gaming stores (Fantasy Games, Warehouse, etc) but the attendance tends to lack a bit of estrogen lol. As a result I'm kind of at a standstill. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Needed: room for rent for 2-3 months.

My partner's young adult son is looking to rent a room in the Goshen or Elkhart area (possibly South Bend or Mishawaka or southern Michigan if needed)

He is reliable and can provide a security deposit and has other adults who can also provide financial security if needed. He is employed and works full time hours.

He is in a transitional phase and just need somewhere to sleep and exist for a couple of months while working until his next option is available.

Job Searching in Marketing and Other Related Fields

Hello! I am a recent Saint Mary’s College graduate and I am currently searching for a job in marketing or a related field in business in the SB area. I wanted to come on here in hopes of receiving some advice. Has anyone found a job in marketing in the SB area? If so, where did you look? What is the best way to put yourself out there/network? Is there anything else I should know? All advice/tips are greatly appreciated. If you know anyone who is hiring, that would also be very helpful, but I know that is really just wishful thinking haha! Thank you so much!

Is this a good city for property investments?

I’m early in my career and want to start investing in a house or a rental property. I’ve lived in south bend 5-6 years ago with some friends in the area and talk about how much it has improved.

Would love to chat if you have experience in this!

Info on Truckdriver who crashed into house and was killed by police April 2023

Hey so I just browse the internet for crazy cases and stories involving truck drivers to make some content on YT and this one caught my eye . I came across the news article but it was VAGUE like literally just basic information which is completely weird . Does anyone have any info on the incident. I figured I’d ask this subreddit that associated with the area. Any info will help ? Name of driver description, name of state officer who was involved. I managed to find a person that had the radio chatter back logged . And stuff about the chatter seems off and doesn’t match what was described to the news. Any info help .

For the children... Would everyone in town please give a shit about Halloween again?

My kids love the houses that decorate for Halloween. Something as simple as a single skeleton on a porch they go bonkers over. Growing up almost everyone did something..... leaves stuffed into those big orange pumpkin trash bags, a scarecrow, orange luminary bags with tea candles, jack-o-lanterns or pumpkins, corn stalks, white bedsheet ghosts, and so on.

I see so many grownups who say they don't get any trick-or-treaters but then they don't put out a single decoration, don't turn on the porch light, and half their neighbors do the same.

Kids still love the hell out of the holiday. Its the adults who are letting it go to hell. It's sad that there has to be maps on Nextdoor or whatever to list that your going to be giving out candy.... as if it's it is hit or miss these days.
