Does anyone know what they are building over on Auten/933 behind the marathon gas station??
Looking for realistic answers for what would or should happen in this situation:
Entered into a rental agreement on October 1,2024 and have slowly been noticing things that are not ok. First it was minor things that we thought would be fixed before we moved in. Gaps near windows and some cleaning issues. It wasn’t painted prior to moving in and landlord had/has no problems with us diy-ing whatever we want (🚩, I know)
We already decided we were going to call to schedule a code inspection on Monday. Today an outlet in my kitchen caught fire while the microwave on the other side of the room was in use. Like actual flames coming from inside the wall 😳
My bf (who was using the microwave) heard a “cracking sound” so he told me to grab my camera. I got about a three second video before the flame started and i panicked. We sent the video to the landlord and told him we need a licensed electrician to fix this. At the time of this post it’s been an hour and 20 minutes with no response.
My questions are— What really happens after your rental is in violation of safety/rental codes? Are you forced to move out? Who pays the price? Are we entitled to rent and deposit to be paid back if it was not up to code to begin with?
Sorry for the long post, I’m a little shaken up Thanks in advance
Looking for recommendations of appliance retailers that will deliver and install the new washing machine and remove the old washing machine.
My parents live in South Bend and are older and have mobility limitations. Their washing machine has been broken for a couple of years, and the washer may be corroded, so we may need someone experienced to look at that and be able to solve it before a clean/quick removal/installation.
I have no experience with this, but they are my parents, and I want to help solve this for them when I am in town visiting for holidays for two weeks.
If it matters, some additional details:
Old washing machine model: maytag washing machine model A408
Washing machine is located in the basement down one flight of stairs
My street on the near Northwest side was a icy in the morning but when I return from work in the evening, the street was not icy. Thanks SB Street Department 👍🏾
I moved back to the area a little over a year ago and I’m just now getting my wood shop set back up. Where are a some good places in the area that I can find kiln dried hardwood and A grade plywood for cabinetry? I rather not be buying un-seasoned slabs off of FB marketplace.
TIA

I live in an apartment, and have no where to store a Christmas tree after the season, so have been considering a real one. I have pretty high ceilings, and could do an up to 8.5 ft tree. That being said, I would prefer a tall skinny tree over a big round one. Where are the best places to go for a tree? What does pricing look like? And what precautions should I take for having a real tree in an apartment?
Anyone got any idea of gas station that still sell kerosene in the south bend Mishawaka area?
Anyone know of a stellar vet in the area? We have an older dog (11F) and a diabetic+blind (5F) dog who will need routine care.
Thanks!
How hard is it to get kindergarten aged kids into PHM through school of choice ?
Does anyone know about this area? I kinda heard that the west side of the SB is not really good compared to other sides. I'm currently looking for the housing.
Hi there!
Just wondering if anyone had recommendations for apartments near Notre Dame University that aren’t ridiculously expensive. I know it’s a hard ask but currently my husband and I are staying at the Overlook (1br 1ba) and while it’s been great, it’s just too strenuous on our budget.
Budget is preferably around 1k but can stretch to 1.3k.
Currently looking at the Landings since that’s for Notre Dame students and since we’re married we’re hoping that helps with the application. Also saw Studebaker lofts was a reasonable price.
No car currently since Hubby has to take the drivers test and I’m waiting on my EAD.
We’re both from overseas and don’t know what areas are safe so any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you :)
My company is trying to find a local source for some Gaylord Boxes. We're looking for octagonal 4+ wall ply boxes. If anyone has any info that would be greatly appreciated.
We recently moved to Niles and so far we really enjoy it. It's the perfect blend of small town with some stuff to do, but still outside of a larger metro. The area is pretty and the people are nice, so we really don't have much to complain about. Any more love for the Niles are on this sub? Or recommendations on places to check out?
Anyone have experience with good drywall finishers in the area? Need a person with experience for a small job. Thanks!
Hey guys and gals! I received a job offer near South Bend and am planning on moving soon to the area. I am interested in South Bend, Mishawaka, or Niles MI as they are all within my desired commute time to work.
I have read several places that crime is pretty terrible in South Bend, but that's where the majority of the home rentals are that match my price range and desires. I'm looking at a couple of homes to possibly rent in the Northeast South Bend area. How bad is the crime? Would Mishawka or Niles be a better choice or is it all the same? Thanks in advance!
Any good places in the area with Neapolitan pizza crust? It’s my absolute favorite and would love to discover some good pizza.
Allan Dwan was the starting quarterback for the Notre Dame football team at the outset of 1906, but his parents made him quit football, fearing it was too dangerous.
It was probably the right call. Dwan became a Hollywood legend.
Just a Buckeye fan who will be in town on Saturday and am hoping to find a decent place to watch the game!
Any recommendations on where to purchase sashimi grade fish? I used to go to St Clair’s and am not sure of any other local places. All recommendations appreciated!
I live in Portage and got a new job in Plymouth so I'm currently looking for a studio or one-bedroom apartment. I started looking for an apartment in Plymouth because my job is there but I don't think there is a good apartment for 25-year-old single men. Price also doesn't look so reasonable for the apartment's conditions. So I'm looking at South Bend and Mishawaka because it's only about 30-35 mins drive from Plymouth. Here is the list of apartments that fit my budget ($1,100) and I really want the apartments that have a washer and dryer in unit.
The Avalon studio in Mishawaka: Base rent of $1,075 and utility included except for the water and electricity. So the price looks reasonable. Pretty new apartment. Expandable apartment so it is interesting. The location looks nice.
Prosper Apartment in South Bend: No studio, but one bedroom. Relatively cheaper than others ($1,000 maybe) Looks like they are advertising that it is a renovated apartment. But I heard in the past it was so often on fire for some reason and not really a safe place to live? I'm not sure.
River Rock studio in Mishawaka: Haven't deeply dig into it but it has a studio apartment and price starts from $1,100. With utility fees, it might be over my budget but seems pretty nice apartment.
The Ivy At Berlin Place in South Bend: Looks really nice apartment and location seems good but I don't think the studio is available at this time :( If I become available I think my first would be this one
The Hill apartment in South Bend: I haven't got the information and price yet but it looks pretty new apartment and the price is also reasonable. Have to call to get more details about it.
If you know or heard anything about the apartments, please give me some advice! Any other apartment recommendation should be helpful as well. If there is a good apartment in Plymouth let me know!!
Anybody know what the new place (looks like a fast food restaurant) coming on S Michigan st between Belle Tire & Jiffy Lube is?
Since Habitat for Humanity ReStore in both South Bend and Mishawaka have permanently closed (and the closest donation site is in Goshen), where else can I drop off a car load of building materials?
Hi guys! I'm doing a survey for an IB class and I was wondering if some people could participate. It's for ages 14-80, it's super quick and easy. Every participant will remain anonymous. Please give as accurate of information as possible. Thank you in advance! https://forms.gle/vLcftYPUjfekSGim6
