"The best thing is to always keep honest people around, because when you have a bunch of yes men around that know that you're making a mistake but let you go on with it, that's when it ruins your mind state as an artist." ~ Kendrick Lamar

ADHD af artist here in a bit of a creative rut, been working on this Kendrick piece for a long long time and was looking for some fan inspo for shit I can incorporate into the design to get the creative juices flowing. Open to all suggestions! I want this to be a pretty big piece with some background noise too. Hope to share it here when it’s finished! Started out as a Grim Reaper design but I’m now drawing an owl in a cage for him to hold instead of a scythe and will maybe chuck in his Grammies somewhere. Blessed day to you all 🙏
It's a great album but it lacks deep substance that Kendrick albums are known for. GNX is just full of Not Like Us formula (which isn't bad, it's just not great in album form). It should have been released as a mixtape, like how J. Cole did with Might Delete Later. GNX sounds like Overly Dedicated but better.
I’m gonna lose it
Fah fah.. Fah fah fah
I want to listen to every Kendrick feature
Only listened to a couple but i personally enjoyed gkmc
not hating buts facts is facts🤷♂️
this is an artwork i did for my graduating art exhibition last year. i currently hold a diploma and have been finding work here and there before life speeds up. it was a disjointed series of reflections and ideas regarding the world, my personal life, and various approaches to viewing the self and growth. each cube was about 1x1 metres by the way. the idea first started when I listened to Count Me Out for the first time.
with his recent Grammy milestones, i thought this would be a good time to examine my experience with Kendrick's music.
i discovered him sometime late 2023, it was the "Count Me Out" music video. I've been working backwards through his career and album discography ever since. i had never been too attuned to music or the music scene, so venturing this deep into an artist's work was very new to me. something about his lyricism and personal journey just captivated me like no other and it all seemed to click. I'll admit, I was at a really low point in my life, or rather at a turning point, full of growth, chaos and change. the Mr Morale album got me to reflect a lot on my past mistakes, on my goals, on my role as a family member, on what I really wanted. "Wesley's Theory" really hit me hard. something about the beat drop gave me this feeling of reaching for greatness, only to fall victim to a corrupt system, with said greatness being denied and lost. it really humbled me, and made me reconsider how i wanted to go about creating my art and how I wanted to pursue wealth or fame.
and yet I still fall, making mistakes, sometimes the exact same ones. each album i listened to i would leave with new lessons, new realisations and new notes. at a certain point i realised I was siphoning all my ideologies and beliefs from Kendrick, I took a step back from his music sometime last year before realising my approach was the problem. "I am not your saviour" once again, realisation.
i don't really have a conclusion for this, its a lot of aimless rambling. but i suppose if anything, i would like to express my gratitude to K-Dot and his community. I'm not an African American, or American in any shape or form, I'm so far removed from his world, and yet I found such profound solace and knowledge from his music, also its just really entertaining and awesome lol. I look forward to more and I hope everyone found an avenue for growth through Kendrick's music too.
Both are my favourite artists and I love both did their thing in the song.
after the beef i see 100x more hatred of kendrick people just decided listening to gnx was enough
I love nachos so much and then Kendrick came out of nowhere and reminds me just where I’m supposed to be putting my ‘chos. Shit like this is why he’s the goat. Upvote if you agree Kendrick is really good
I had someone telling me that Kendrick was just a pawn for Lucian Grainge to take down Drake, like Kendrick didn’t have his own reasons for going at him. If anything, Lucian needed Kendrick way more than Kendrick needed him.
Having mutual interests doesn’t mean one person is being “used.” Kendrick wanted this battle and executed it perfectly. Lucian having his own reasons to want Drake’s value lowered doesn’t change the fact that Kendrick’s own motives were clear from the start.
And the way people try to use the short-term deal to “prove” Kendrick got used is hilarious. If anything, a short-term deal gives Kendrick MORE power and leverage, not less. He didn’t tie himself down, didn’t get locked into anything long-term, and likely walked away with full control over his music and branding. That’s not someone getting played. That’s someone playing the game smart.
The way people try to twist this narrative to make Drake look like a victim is insane. If anything, this whole situation just shows how much weight Kendrick’s name holds. Lucian couldn’t “use” just anybody for this. He needed someone who could actually execute. And Kendrick did exactly that.
Making a group chat on insta for everyone going to the seattle show for kendrick n sza!! just trying to connect w people im 18 btw!
Obviously this weekend highlights "Kendrick just opened his mouth, someone hand him a Grammy"
I never really thought about this until yesterday. This album would be perfect for true hip-hop fans. Both of these rappers are on par with each other lyrically, in punchlines, and bars. I know this might never happen, but just imagining it would be one of the biggest albums of all time. Imagine if, in one of the songs, they actually had a rap battle just for fun. I'm just saying! They could also have Dr. Dre produce a couple of the tracks. Man, that would be legendary! What name would you come up with for the collaboration album? Also, off-topic, congrats to Kendrick for winning five Grammys last night. Talk about legendary! 🧹🧹🧹🧹🧹 🐐
He would pay his mama’s rent and honestly he’s kind of been on a roll lately so this might be the next step for him.
To Pimp a Butterfly, DAMN., untitled unmastered., & the Black Panther soundtrack have new Dolby Atmos surround sound mixes that have just been released on Apple Music.
What are your thoughts on them?
Shutcho Uncultured Azz Up!!!😤
Nice foreshadowing kendrick
