Uber to YUL

Does this seem like a reasonable price to go to YUL at 6:30am from the plateau/mile end? Normal uber is ~$5 cheaper

Hit and Run - Is the Police any help?

My car was damaged by a Rona Bois Ideal delivery driver while it was parked.

I have the collision on both my dashcam and house camera. Since the video clearly shows the name and phone number of the company, I contacted the owner directly. Unfortunately, both the owner and the driver were uncooperative, so I filed a police report.

Now, my insurance company is telling me that the police report lists the other party as “unknown.” Even though we know exactly who hit my car (thanks to the video, license plate, and the owner’s name), they say they have to go by what the police report says.

I’m really surprised by this. How much evidence do I need to provide? Is it normal for this to happen? It feels like the police aren’t being helpful, and it seems like someone could get away with it if they wanted to.

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Got my bike stolen in Downtown

Hey guys, Today I got my bike stolen while I was away for only 2 hours in Downtown place des arts.

What should I do, is the police useful ? Why was my bike targeted although it's pretty cheap (<$250) compared to other bikes ?

What’s going on in Outremont right now?

I live around the Outremont - Cote Des Neige border.

There are a lot of police sirens and cars passing. About 10 in the last time mins. Seems very active

Edit: 11:40PM - Whatever it was it’s done. No more police, everything is quiet again

PIZZA PIZZA situation bizarre

Towed with no signage, what are my options?

I got towed and a $200 ticket for parking “in a space whose access is prohibited by a gate, an amber light system, a removable sign or an inscription on a cover or panel fixed to a parking meter”. I parked at 6:30 PM the night before with no signage saying it was prohibited. My car was towed at 9:07 AM. I had no way of knowing parking would be prohibited. The city usually puts “no parking 7h-17h” signs when there is planned maintenance. Do I have a case for pleading not guilty? Is there no legal precedent for the city to clearly indicate when a road is going to be closed?

Looking for new friends in Montreal

Hey everyone,

My buddy and I are part of a pretty large friend group, but lately, most of them aren’t really down to go out or try new things. We love them, of course, but we’re looking to meet more like-minded people who are actually up for going out—whether it’s hitting up clubs, speakeasies, bars, or just checking out cool spots around the city.

We’re two guys in our early 20s, and we’re open to making friends with anyone who’s chill, fun, and down for a good time—guys, girls, all are welcome! If you’re someone who enjoys nightlife, trying new experiences, or just meeting new people, hit us up!

Reply here or send me a DM if you’re interested. Looking forward to meeting some cool people!

Btw, I’m new to reddit, I don’t really know how it works, I downloaded it just to post this. I don’t have the slightest clue why my username is the barnacle or whatever, just clarifying so you don’t think I’m a bot or something lol.

Any graphic designers looking for some project work and/or to do a collaboration?

This might not be the most obvious place to post yet I really have nothing to lose. I have been looking for someone to hire/collaborate with on a few projects I have had in mind for a while now. I have not made a great deal of progress on the projects because of a few messed up life circumstances. I want 2025 to be different. I have had talks with a few people and nothing has progressed. I will be candid, some are asking substantially more than what I can afford for now, while others are too busy or not interested in the project. This is all fine. As such, I am looking for someone who might be willing to take some compensation and a portion of the sales revenue afterwards. I have someone for the marketing/distribution already. The key will be to source a reasonably priced printer as the first phase of this project will involve printed material. If you were interested, have a look at some of my other posts to learn a bit about me. I know I can go overseas with this and save a lot of money yet I don't want to do that. Message me directly and I wil share my professional site. Cheers.

which city should I move to?

Hi all! I (25F) have just been offered placements at both McGill and UoT. I am from the UK and have Canadian citizenship but have never actually been to Canada. I am trying to decide which offer to accept- what are the major differences between the cities? I know that the Montreal weather is harsh, but apart from that there doesn't seem to be many cons (I don't speak French fluently but have a basic understanding and am willing to learn more and McGill is an English speaking Uni anyway) . Job security isn't really a concern as I will be studying fully-funded anyway.

Some of the things that are important to me:

I consider myself quite an artistic person, I enjoy galleries and concerts and cinemas and plays and that sort of thing a lot. I want to be in a city that has people who place emphasis on the arts

I am a political person and activism and organising is also really important to me, so again a city with a good sense of community and some good activist roots

Walkability and public transport needs to be good as I'm not intending on getting a car

I have lived in London for a few years and even though I have made some amazing friends I feel like it is quite a lonely city, I want to be somewhere that feels like there is a strong community and people are helping each other out

Also I am single- I know this sounds like a dumb thing but London is a TOUGH city for single people and as I'm going into my mid-late 20s I'm looking to maybe find a lasting relationship of some kind, so which city do you think is better for dating and finding love? I know it sounds silly but in my experience the city can really impact peoples openness to date and the kind of dating they take part in lol

Let me know! (also posting in Toronto subreddit)

Electric Sofa Recliner - Repair Question

My sofa is an electrical recliner and there's an issue with one half of the couch, it's no longer reclining and stuck. Does anyone have a recommendation for a repair person or if you've dealt with this before how you fixed it yourself?

Something I noticed about Royalmount

My new workplace now has me commuting on the Orange Line to Du College. I also often catch the 100 that takes me to De La Savane. So I have more opportunities to take that skybridge over to Royalmount Mall. I went there for the dumplings place I saw when I dropped by near the opening. While walking through, I wondered why all the stores on the second floor were not the luxury brands the place was supposed to be for. I am fairly sure Bikini Village is not a luxe shop.

Then I realized that all the high end places like Tag Heuer were in the first floor...the same level as the parking lots. All the relatively affordable places were on the second where people coming from the metro would encounter first.

What would you say is the least used STM station?

Just curious. Not much information online about passenger count per station. It would be interesting to compare the most used train station in the city with the least used one.

DATAS: Top 10 Mischiefs by area (of all time since 2015)

TITLE EDIT: DATA: Top 10 Mischief Incidents by Area (All-Time Since 2015)

Here are the top 10 areas mentioned in police reports for mischief-related crimes. These locations are based on GPS coordinates provided by law enforcement officers and may differ from reality.

Source: Montreal Open Data (shared in the comments). I can attempt to isolate the data by year if there’s interest. Please note that my formulas may contain errors, so consider this as indicative only. The results are extracted from mischief incidents reported since 2015:

  1. Rue Ste-Catherine Ouest / Rue University (Eaton Centre?)
  2. Métro Berri-UQAM? = Rue Berri / Boul. de Maisonneuve
  3. CF Fairview Pointe-Claire
  4. Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport
  6. Rue Rachel / Rue Boyer (Parc Lafontaine?)
  7. Boulevard des Trinitaires (Parc Angrignon?) (Perhaps related to park events—I’m not entirely sure.)
  8. Rue Ste-Catherine Ouest / Avenue McGill College (Eaton Centre / Montreal Trust??)
  9. Métro Lionel-Groulx
  10. Métro Beaudry? = Rue Ste-Catherine Est / Rue Beaudry

Author’s Notes:
Keep in mind that these results depend on how police officers filled out their reports and how the data is consolidated in the document available on the City of Montreal’s open data website. The formula I used to compile the data may also influence the results. Please take careful note of this.

Edit 1: I tried to correct the metro-related areas by adding “=” for clarity. If you notice other intersections related to metro stations, please let me know in the comments.

Edit 2: I attempted to link the areas to the closest infrastructure to provide better context for interpreting the results. This may not always be accurate, so I’ve added this note for transparency.

Any Montreal protests against Trump's bullying?

Are there any protests being organized in Montreal to let Trump know we won't be bullied over? We need a 100,000 people in the street to protest his economic warfare and make it known we wont take his backstabbing betrayal of the US's closest ally. Any one know if there are protests being organized?

Scam? Recharge Opus 20% Off

Hey everyone,

I came across a guy on Facebook who claims he can load the Opus card with a 20% discount because he works at STM and gets an employee discount. He said the payment could be made after the card is loaded.

Is that true? Anyone experienced something like this before?

Merci
