3) Utilize the NSFW Tag
If you are going to post a photo of a deceased or severely injured animal, please mark it NSFW!

NOTE: Cohabitation is in fact, a form of neglect.
No porn should be self explanatory
5) Use a descriptive title and search before posting
If asking for help or advice, please use a clear and descriptive title, as well as additional details in the post body.
"HELP!!" is not a good title, it says nothing about what kind of help you need, and is quite low effort.
"What is the best substrate for a leopard gecko?" is a much better title, it clearly states what kind of help you are looking for without coming off as low effort.
You should also search the subreddit before posting your question, it is highly possible that your question has been asked and answered previously.
6) No posts asking to buy or sell
This subreddit is not a marketplace, nor do we have infrastructure in place to prevent scams. Find another forum to buy/sell in.
7) Stay on topic
Posts must be related to geckos in some way.

Hi there,
So I thought I could venture from the world of fish and amphibians into the world of reptiles. I did a bunch of research, and set my heart on a day gecko. One became available on craigslist one day, so I jumped at the opportunity, and took it home.
But now that I have it, the tank isn't as described, and I don't believe it's properly set up for a gold dust. The guy custom built the tank with the great stuff foam, said it was bioactive (yet when I picked it up the poor guy was on his front porch in November, dry as a bone) but I did see one isopod when I dug a little? But all the plants are dead and need to be replanted. I need some advice on good substrate to use as well as hearty plants?
Also, I cannot for the life of me keep his humidity up. Do I need these "hydro balls" I hear about underneath the substrate layer? I would assume it's due to the lack of plants (and any moss) on the bottom that make for the difficulty in keeping it humid.
As for UV, I just knew the bulb wouldn't have been changed in ages, so I rushed out and bought a reptisun "desert" 10, as I heard the mesh screen blocks nearly half the UV output.
I'm reading the Acadia shade dweller 7% is great, thoughts?
Now, for heat. There was a ceramic heat emitter on (dual dome) and I was told to just keep it on 24/7 for heat. The top of his cage is 90 degrees, his favorite "perch" on his bamboo is a little lower down.
I'm reading there's supposed to be a drop in temp at night? But how do I do this consistently every night? I'm so confused!
Also, I was going to feed 4 crickets 2x a week, with 1 feeding of pangea or fresh fruit per week as well. Is that appropriate? I was going to alternate cricket feedings with dustings of multivitamin and calcium w/ D3. I'm hearing mixed feelings on Pangea?
Last but certainly not least, gecko "enrichment." Right now his cage is bare bones. Nothing in it. It's got a custom built background, a couple bamboo tubes sticking out, and the two feeding ledges (one food, one water), but that's it. I feel like he needs fake vines, sticks, branches, a bird ladder, I dunno, something, anything, to climb and play around on. What does your gold dust like to climb on the most?
Thanks in advance!
TLDR: I just got a gold dust day gecko off craigslist, tank not quite as advertised and needs to be revamped/completely redone, I need suggestions on EVERYTHING as I am a newbie!
Thanks again!
My crested gecko, sizzle, randomly has wounds (i think its a wound) on his head anyone know a reason it couldve happend? Or if it isnt a wound what else it could be?
I don't plan to get a gecko until spring 2025. I am trying to learn all I can, learning to care for their plants and buy supplies, tank, stuff for it to climb on etc. I think I would like a female leopard gecko (crested interested me for a bit but I have always loved leopards). This will be my first reptile. I was told to not buy one from a store. They were scary cheap, even more so on Black Friday. What website do y'all recommend to buy a gecko? Favorite brands for everything? Are online products the same as what's in the store or is one better than the other? I was told to buy my tank from Facebook marketplace and clean it with diluted vinegar. I want a bigger tank than what it would need, maybe 55 g. I figure it will need a back up place to go when I clean it's house or is a carrier ok? Do geckos have a particular form of entertainment they enjoy? If there's a question I did not ask please let me know. I want to do the right thing to care for my new baby. Thank you!
Edit: what about reptile shows? I live close to Birmingham, AL (about an hour away), Gadsden is the same distance. I will need a reptile vet. If you have one for my area that would also be appreciated. Thank y'all again for any info.
i was thinking of getting one since i found a breeder in my country, i did some prior research on the basic necessities of this species but i’m curious on someone else’s experience on keeping them(idk if the grammar’s right but oh well)
This is my baby Luffy after I had just finished giving him some crickets. It’s like he was licking his lips they were so tasty!
Hey yall! So I wanted to come on here and get some advice
I have two geckos of my own, one Leo and one AFT
I just picked up a rescue AFT who has very stunted growth who has a home lined up but I’m fostering him until the end of the year—- all his stuff has been payed for by his owner who also lives in the same living complex it’s just that my room is permitted to have reptiles and hers isn’t so she’s taking him once the school year is over
Anyways on to my question. I know that multivitamins are important and we’re supposed to give them to our geckos once a week but I’ve been having issues with my reptivite
I can’t seem to get it to stick to the bugs when dusting them, and the geckos will turn their noses up at the reptivite multivitamins
Dusting in calcium isn’t an issue but that multivitamin never seems to stick on and my geckos would rather die then eat a bug sprayed with water and then dunked/dusted in reptivite
I want to be a good mother that makes sure her scaley children get their vitamins so I was thinking about getting an oral syringe and taking a small amount of water (a couple ounces, just enough so it’s squirtable) mixing an appropriate does of the reptivite in and then squirting it into their mouths so they can get their multivitamin
I feel like this is the best way to get them their multivitamins in the least intrusive method without having to force feed them vitamins
What are your guys’ thoughts? Do any of you have experience with this? How much would you recommend mixing to give them once a week?
Also they both have the appropriate linear T5 uvb bulb 7% :)
I'm building a large enclosure for a leachie and today I was getting ready to leave and I saw a massive bug on one of the prices of wood that I got from dubia roaches. I took it out and found out that it is a sand cockroach. I'm pretty concerned because the only things that are in the enclosure are things I ordered online got from a pet store or reptile expo. And the tank is completely sealed so there is no way that It could have gotten in from the outside. What should I do to get rid of any other possible roaches or bugs in the enclosure?
Is this setup okay ? Any suggestions on wht to add
✨Happy Sunday!!!!✨
I just want to see alllllll the different morphs so comment your babies below
A pic of my girl Oracle to start with!!!
Can anyone guess her morph??
Hi! We recently got 4 marbled geckos, they seemed quite active at the shop but have since become very quiet and hidden now we have them. I’m aware they are a more “boring” type however I just want to check that we are doing everything right by them.
Also, I’ve been reading up a few posts here & now I’m unsure; can we have these geckos being handheld? Is that a thing or will that just cause stress?
I’ve included a photo of their current set up, I am planning on adding a stick/s in there for climbing. I assume natural is best?
hello! i’m new to reddit and want to come on here to ask for some advice. i have three marbled geckos and they currently live in a 45x45x30 (LxWxH) i want to upgrade their tank and possibly make it bioactive for them but i cant seem to find any tanks without doors on the front that they can escape from. i was thinking of refurbing a tank made for turtles, specifically a 90x45x50. marbled geckos only live small lives so i was going to make a terrarium for a leopard gecko once my marbles have past. any suggestions?
My Pookie wookie honey bee love bug snuggle muffin cutie patootie pumpkin pie boo baby bear hunting and wagging his tail will NEVER GET OLD idc
My little brother has three gecko tanks, currently all lined up on his floor. i want to get him a good shelf to display them on, but ive searched ikea and amazon and nothing is fitting my needs.
Im wondering if people here have ideas or reccomendations?
He has one tank that is 31x13x13, and two that are 21x13x13 that open from the top, and i want him to be able to get into the tanks easily. Does anyone have pictures of their own setups maybe so i can get ideas, or suggestions for brands to look at?
Found this baby mourning gecko crawling around in my ice-well at work during busy service. He’s missing some skin on the top of his head. Possibly damaged from the ice scoop, but he’s crawling around okay so doesn’t look like head trauma. What should I do? I can’t do much since I’m still here at work. I put him in this little deli with a paper towel and cut some holes in the lid. Should I put some cornstarch on his wound if we have some here? When I get home I can put him in a better enclosure but until then is there anything else I can do for it?
Posting again because it got deleted because the title wasn’t long enough????
Anyways. I’ve noticed that every time my geckos(AFT) are out of their hides(which is rare) they go back in as soon as they see me or my gf.
I was wondering if there was anything I could stick on the glass that would make it where we can see inside but they can’t see out to give them more privacy? Kind of like the backdrop stick one that some tanks have.
Any other advice on how to make them more comfortable would be great as well! I handle them regularly and one of them (Boo) is really chill but the other (Aurora) isn’t as used to it. Which is strange because I see Aurora out more than I see Boo.
I am looking into getting a captive bred baby tokay and was wondering if this seller, “Cold Blooded Shop” is a good breeder to get a little guy from? If anyone has any experience or any breeders of tokays that they prefer that also have good prices let me know!
