EMSKR how old were you when you realized you were smarter/wiser than your parents? And what do you do when they won't listen to reason?

My dad is 80 and is making the stupidest decisions! financial and medical. He's stubborn as hell and thinks he still knows everything. He has 5 children and all of us have tried talking him out of the decisions he's made recently. So I know I am right.

EMSKR how to soften polo tee

How to soften polo tee

Hi everyone, I have recently received a ralph lauren polo tee as a gift, but i fear i may have ruined it. When i first got it, it was soft, stretchy and comfortable, but after 2 washes, the texture has become hard and rough, almost feels sandy. I set my washing machine to easy care with a bit of softner, just like i normally do with my other clothes. I read online that maybe i used too much or the wrong type of detergent? Any ideas how to fix this as i really treasure this tee and how to avoid this with my other clothes in the future? Much appreciated

EMSK if you want your kids to leave you alone so you can sleep longer, just tell them that when you wake up they are going to have to clean their rooms and the rest of the house and maybe even do some yard work.

True story. The little shits will do everything they can to avoid waking you up.

EMSKR Sheltered childhood, huge lack of independence skills, where do i begin?

I am 20 and I have little to no independence skills. I know how to run a dishwasher, oven and cooking hob, how to cook a boiled egg, scrambled eggs, rice and pasta. I also know how to do the dishes by hand but that's about it. I grew up in a sheltered middle class household, where my Mum used my type 1 diabetes as an excuse to overprotect me. Whenever my dad would try to discipline me or to teach me anything (which he would always do in a firm but fair way) my Mum would shut him down and tell him to leave me alone. As a result of this upbringing and my internalizing of it, I haven't developed any indepence skills. I can barely do laundry, cooking, or manage my finances so I'm really the lowest of the low. This realisation hit me when my girlfriend became aware of how much I lack indepence. When she'd bring this up with me i took it as an attack, which highlights my internalizing of my Mum's response to whenever my dad would try and discipline me.

I would really like to improve now, and i want to learn all the possible indepence skills, but I have no idea where to start. On my list i currently have:

•Personal hygiene skills i haven't learned yet (shaving, tying my hair up because i have long hair)

•Cleaning skills I haven't learned yet (hoovering, cleaning the house, washing clothes etc)

•Cooking

•Finances

•Getting a job

•Managing my time

•Moving out and doing an apprenticeship or going to University after high school

I'm currently re doing high school which is going well, but I want to compliment this with actually living like an adult. I would really appreciate if anyone could suggest any other skills I should learn, because i really know nothing. If you've imagined how bad it is, it's way worse than that, so if there are any skills that you think are so small that i probably know them, i don't so any and all suggestions are highly appreciated. Thank you so much if you've read until this point and thank you for any advice.

EMSKR: Am I an asshole for leaving a pair of panties I bought under the pillow on our bed for my gf to find them? I just wanted her to think I could get somebody else.

I didn't actually cheat on her. I kept the receipt and can prove. I just don't think I'm ready to tell her the truth yet.

EMSKR - unprompted compliments, wat do?

I’ve been in the gym a lot recently over the past couple years and I’m starting to look and feel a lot better. I’ve ran into an unexpected problem where more people (men and women) want to talk to me randomly. It’s usually pretty surface level about my clothes or tattoos. I’m kinda introverted so this always throws me off. I always feel like the other person is waiting on a conversation but i never know what to say. Any tips?

EMSKR - shaving

I feel stupid. What should I do. I tried electric but I just don’t want a stubble. This is after shaving with the grain as well. I don’t understand how it could be simultaneously leaving cuts and also leaving behind shit ton of hair. Genuinely what am I doing wrong because I feel dumb right now. It’s either me or my skin is just unreceptive to shaving.

I've started to cycle to work so don't really want to carry a glass cologne bottle. The journey warrants more than a roll on but most common sprays I find remind me of teenagers with overpowering sprays

EMSKR: How to ask a single girl's contact info when you're speaking to a group?

Hey ya'll,

Hopefully this question makes sense. So I live in a city with a ton of live music and I play in a ton of bands which has me in bars and meeting lots of new people several times a week. I'm a pretty social guy and especially when i catch a girl staring at me I'll usually go introduce myself to her. The thing is, 99% of the time, the girl is there with one or several of her friends. So I'll go introduce myself to the group and chat with everyone. These conversations overwhelming go well. I usually win over the whole group, give them tips on where to go while they're in town and/or tell them about other cool shows I'm playing or know about. Sometimes these girls will find me on instagram even if i never asked to connect there or not. That makes me thing some of these girls are interested even though the conversation never turns explicitly flirty. Here's where my question comes in;

Often times there will be one girl in the group that i like and basically is the main reason i went over and started chatting with them in the first place. But i can never quite figure out how to say "Hey so i like this one in particular and wanted to exchange phone numbers so we can go grab drinks sometime". It just feels like a social faux pa to do that. Am i just over thinking it? Ultimately I'm not even just trying to have casual hook ups, I'd like to find a single girl friend to be in a committed relationship, but I'm just bad at transitioning it from "friendly guy chatting to the whole group" to "ok I'm actually interested in going on a date with one of you". What are ya'lls thoughts?

Thanks!

EMSK to always wash their hands after using the restroon

Come on folks, nobody wants to shake hands with your junk. If you use the restroom, please wash your hands. Even if you only used one, you probably touched other surfaces with the other. And I don't mean the 3 seconds under running water and done. Use some soap, get it all over your hands, and go back to your normal life with CLEAN HANDS.

EMSKR: How to fully shave my chin?

Any time I (19) shave, the rest of my face is fine but when I shave my chin no matter what I do I still have a faint patch of hair, it feels completely smooth but it's visibly there along the front of my chin, is there any way to get rid of/avoid this?

Edit: I use a safety razor

EMSK How To Remove Blood From Fabric

For Fresh Stain

Step 1: Turn the fabric over so the stain is face down, and flush the stain out under cold water. It’s important to never use hot water on blood, as this can cause the stain to set.

Step 2: Pretreat the stain by applying a small amount of liquid laundry detergent or a stain-removing product formulated to work on blood directly onto the front side of the stain, rub it in and let it sit for five minutes.

Step 3: Launder the item according to its care label instructions. Before putting it in the dryer, check to see if the stain is gone, as the heat from the dryer can cause it to set permanently.

Some products below to use

Hydrogen peroxide is a go-to blood stain remover, but be aware that it can have a bleaching effect on dark and non-colorfast fabrics. Before using hydrogen peroxide, spot test it on an inconspicuous place to avoid causing irreversible color loss.

Blood is a protein stain so protein formula is effective (like Zout Stain Remover). When looking for protein stain formulas keep an eye out for the word "enzyme," which is a powerful treatment for bio-based stains.

Bausch & Lomb Sensitive Eyes Contact Lens Solution. Yep, the combination of cold water and salt is great for getting out blood stains; wet the stain and sprinkle salt on it, then rub it in and soak the item in cold water. Contact lens wearers can use saline solution to achieve a similar effect: Saturate the blood stain with the saline solution, rub it into the fabric and soak or flush with cold water.

McCormick Unseasoned Meat Tenderizer. Yep, weird but true. Unseasoned meat tenderizer, when mixed with a small amount of water to make a paste, removes blood stains and is especially effective at removing older, more set-in blood stains.

EMSK how to escape from a sinking car.

First, take off seatbelt as soon as you realize you are going in the water. Second, get the window down. Assuming the window is electric, you probably have less than 30 seconds to get that window down before it shorts out. It's really difficult to kick out a window. Carry a "center punch" in your car--maybe by hanging it on your mirror or key chain or some other easy place.

Don't wait for the car to fill up with water to try to exit the door unless you absolutely have to. You've lost precious time if you have to try to go out the door. If you are too big to go out through the window, you'll have to open the door. But the consensus then is that you will probably have to wait to open the door after water has filled up the car because the door is supposed be easier to open after it pressurizes. Supposedly you will not be physically able to push open the door due to the water pushing against it. After the car fills with water, the car should pressurize to make it able for you to open the door. But, again, pressurizing is not instant or fast. You will be losing precious time if you plan to exit via a door.

It's hard and maybe impossible to kick a window out--especially if you kick it in the middle, which is what most people instinctively do. If you have to kick out a window, you need to kick it at the front of the window where the hinges are (away from the handle). It's more likely to break that way.

Here is a good and affordable center cut tool. It also comes with a seatbelt cutter: amazon link

I watched a recording or a 15 yr old girl get washed away in her car. The car stayed afloat for almost 4 minutes. The only thing she did during that time was call her father on the phone for help. She had not be prepared for this kind of emergency. She was still in the car when it was pulled from the water hours later. Let's not let that happen to you or your child.

EMSK a tip to start an emergency fire. This one doesn't happen this fast. A bottom of a water bottle is better. The water has to be clear. Basically this is turning an object into a magnifying glass.
