I’ve recently discovered Dresden files and I’m listening to all Dresden files audiobooks on Audible… what a ride! I’ve noticed some of the books are available in two versions but i can only see two differences: publishers (one being Penguin, the other Brown books or something like that) and price. Is there any other difference or reason for this?
...and holy crap man. I was again so disappointed when Michael failed to convince Nicodemus to walk away from the coin, Butcher really had me thinking he might succeed. And Michael's speech was so impassioned and sincere, despite everything Nicodemus has done. It reminded me why he's my favorite secondary character. His empathy and understanding (excepting where those who threaten his children are concerned) are truly Christ-like, balanced with a fair sense of justice and a willingness to do ugly things when necessary. He may have some strong opinions I may not necessarily agree with, but I wish I knew a man like that in real life.
Also, Butters' knighting is one of the best scenes I've ever read. Makes me wish I could see it on the screen.
Harry has a bad habit of burning things down and we know he's going to travel in time at some point so what do you think the chances are that harry is responsible for the great Chicago fire?
…Holy fuck…
That is all.
Towards the end of the book, Lea tells Molly that she has a lot of potential and that they should have a talk later. You know what Harry should’ve said?
!”Over my dead body”!<
I mean I know happened in cold case. But ramirez in peace talks and battle ground is like a totally different character. He's paranoid, dour, uses his friendship with harry to plant a bug. I know he's suspious from what happened with molly. But his personality is like totally different. Instead of asking what's going on with harry first he moved right to stalking and spying. Harry even tells him the truth "he's fulfilling a favor mab owes Lara" but Carlos refuses to believe him and keeps being suspicious
We're told that when someone's personality changes that's a sign they are being controlled or modified. That's what happened with luccio. Could something have happened to Carlos? I mean in changes he and the rest of the young wardens were arrested by cristos during the crisis In Edinburgh. They were locked up and no one had a clue where they were. Cristos is heavily implied to be black council and the only other black council spy we know specificly used mental manipulation and mind control... not even counting potential nfection.
i think it was set in london. i cant remember
So hear me out, I don't think any of this is relevant to the plot of the Files, I just think it would be cool if it were true.
I propose that the Dresden Files are the Harry Dresden equivalent of the Council releasing Stokers Dracula, but that it is end of series Dresden releasing it.
The big thing that I believe will happen in the series that "needs" to be true for this to hold any water is that Dresden is going to become a God Adjacent being. I think there is plenty of evidence of this in the stories as is, and I think there are plenty of theories that also align with this.
In story we know he is Starborn, being Starborn brings power, Mab is molding him into something more often hinting at immortality, and that the Council is also molding him to be more. In Morgan's short story, we see that the White Council knows a lot more than we had ever confirmed before, and that there is something Harry could become, a Destroyer. This tidbit of info leads to the theory I believe the most.
The Nephilim theory, where Dresden is a scion of an angel. The choice to act against his innate need to help and do the right thing would cause him to Fall and become a Destroyer. Where as maybe doing more than he has or knowing more can cause him to ascend to Angelic levels. I don't really believe he's going to be on Uriel's level, but perhaps just a lot higher than where he is now.
Eventually I think Dresden will get beefy enough and his name will spread enough that people will start trying to pull off a summon/binding on him. So to defuse this annoyance he publishes his life story to terrify anyone that wants to try, explain why he is what he is, and diffuse the power of any summons.
This theory is simply for fun, I think it would be a cool way to wrap up the series, and let's not forget one of the First things Harry tells the reader: "My Name is Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, conjure at your own risk."

The above video is of a revolver chambered in 500 Bushwhacker. It’s perfect for a little power up in the next book without being to extreme
If Peace Talks and Battle Ground were written as one book originally, then when Lara and Harry make a hentai reference in each one, respectively, that would have been two hentai references in one book.
That is all. Just saying.
So... somehow, I managed to miss that there's an entire novella out. I just read it in one go, and the only thing I have to say is, "I forgot just how much I miss Dresden stories."
I will have to re-read the series, now.
After the Battle of Chicago, anyone who was in town now knows the truth of the supernatural. I could totally see that being a small thorn that Jim digs into Harry's side, probably while averting another apocalypse:
Larry Fowler, now forced to accept the truth of the supernatural, eventually learns that Harry as a wizard is a menace to electronics. This gives him renewed determination and proof to try and get his money from Harry, or whatever it is he wants
hello all of you I was wondering about how mr butcher plans aon ending this fabulopus book series and I think personally it will end with Harry much older and either the leader or one of in the new white council or whatever it is and he and we have been reading along with his new apprentice Maggie who will have grown up with her very powerful sister Bonea..so .I really think she will have an incredible ammount of power. I cant figure out how he will find away from mab but the way the white council has slowly yet steadliy eroded I can see the grey council taking over eventually. please I would absolutlely love to hear your thoughts.
Possible spoilers during this fun discussion.
Just to be clear, an example of a focused practitioner would be >!Mortimer Lindquist, Binder, or Hannah Ascher.!<
A practitioner who is really focused on a particular skill in magic.
The threat level and skill of a Focused Practitioner can be very erratic and goes off a case by case basis. It wouldn’t be wrong to assume that some focused practitioners can reach Wizard-levels of power, just in a very narrow skill tree.
Edit: was not expecting some of y’all to say love potions and boner pills. Way to really set the bar on the wonders of magic, people. You’re the reason Harry has to specify against that stuff in his business cards.
So I just was on the Black Myth: Wukong subreddit, and spotted a post about Maitreya/Yellow Brow(some of the characters in the game). Someone in the comments mentioned that Maitreya is the Buddha of the future, and mentioned there was also a Buddha of the past and present, and they change hands as it implies. It made me think of the mothers/queens/ladies. Specifically they were mentioned as the Buddha (who was/who is/to be). Just like the Mothers spoke about the Mother/Queen/Ladies. I never saw this mentioned here and thought it was interesting. I may have just missed it or it had been so widely known and accepted and I just didn't get the memo but it was new to me lol.
And good for Chicago, too!
At the end of Battle Ground, Harry commissioned a new knightly order: Fifty individualsl who defended Chicago alongside him, and who joined him to honor those who fell in defending the city:
Of the survivors, fifty or so of my volunteers had been willing to attend. In a ceremony that was half comedic and half gut-wrenching, I pronounced them Knights of the Bean and Defenders of Chicago. And then I pinned a dried lima bean glued to a steel backing to their chests, and I made each of them a promise: “If you or anyone you love is ever in danger, come and find me. If it isn’t you, tell them to show me this. I will help. No questions asked.” Promises are a magic of their own, with a little will behind them. And when I made each one, I felt it leave a signature on the pin. I’d know it if someone tried to pass a fake one on me.
It might have been half-comedic, but we've already seen the results of Harry doing comedic thing. He called Toot-Toot Major General, and now he has a household guard and a passel of tiny fey who answer to him.
It's also clear that while Harry might have been half-joking, the Knights of the Bean aer quite serious. Consider this from The Law:
Wordlessly, he opened the top part of his jacket, to reveal a little homemade craft-store pin with a bean glued to it, the award I’d given the survivors at the wake for the fallen—one of my Knights of the Bean.
This is kind of interesting. In the fey/magical sense, Harry now has a mortal knightly order that answers to him, alongside his household guard, a freaking castle that constitue his demesnes (per "Little Things"), his seneschal William (and William's own retainers, the Alphas), and the hangers-on of the Paranet, all of whom are now in debt to Harry after he sheltered and protected them.
Harry definitely has a nation or something building.
And the Knights of the Bean themselves? At least for now, in the mortal sense, Harry has himself a network of informants, contacts, and assistants who are at least mildly in the know about the supernatural and may be willing to do him small favors (not Small Favors) here and there.
I look forward to seeing how this develops. And I really hope that the Knights of the Bean play a role in Twelve Months.
There is so much story for an excellent series is taken seriously. So many characters, long developing arcs, possibly do 2 to 3 books a year and you've got a hit for 7 to 9 years!
Its a weird theory . Well he did kill Susan to kill all red court. What if to kill all outsiders he has to kill lets say Molly ?
