Just wondering: is it really frowned upon for a DJ to play low bpm bangers?
What do you consider a banger? Is vocals for an opener set also played very sparingly?
hii everyone im new to djing and was wondering if anyone has beginner tips/tricks🙏🏾im currently starting on mixxx, but im open to any advice :))
Hi all, I’m making the switch over to rekordbox after practicing on VirtualDJ for about 2 years now, just because I hear it’s most commonly used professionally. However, it’s pretty jarring and confusing to me, even overwhelming. The format is completely different than what I’m used to. For example, wavelengths instead of the beat counters. Do any of y’all recommend any video guides? Or tips? Thanks :3
so i’m basically asking what the title says i feel like my mixes are kinda getting repetitive and ive been always mixing in right before the breakdown of in the incoming song and i want to change it up abit and progress so anyone got any suggestions?
Hey guys, I’m playing a house party with 30-40 people in a couple weeks. There’s no speakers there so do you think a single EV ZLX12 would fill the room or would I need 2? Any other speaker recommendations are welcome as well!! My budget is roughly 6-700 but i’d like to spend a little less if possible. Used preferred too
Not to sound mean or judgmental, but how is it that so many on here have spent $1000+ on equipment without knowing the basics like Signal Flow or what RCA and XLR cables are?

Hey everyone,
Thought this may be useful in this sub as think this would be useful for newer DJs trying to get an insight on what the grind looks like, my name is Chris and I've been making house music for a little over 4 years now. I've been supported by Jamie Jones, Josh Baker, Carola, Dennis Cruz, tons of others including the man himself, Gordo.
Just wanted to share my first episode in a vlog series I'm starting to track my progress trying to make a career out of house music and also to double as an "art piece" depicting the struggles and triumphs an artist faces throughout their journey. I feel like I'm starting to get a little bit of headway but still a long way to go to where I want to be at.
Another complaint of mine is that the "DJ vlogs" that are out right now (Summit, Stussy, my lord and savior James Hype, etc) only seem to show the high points? Like alot of their vlogs are just "I had a sick set" and a bunch of montage footage but I just thought it would be cool if one of them started tracking their progress from the "local" level and we could see what they did to get there. Not saying I'm those guys by any means, I would give my left kidney to become James Hype because I truly love him so much.
bs aside, here's the link for anyone interested in checking it out, would love any feedback on the premise or any ideas you may like to see for this project. Thank you all for the time, I'm going back to my role as viewer now <3
I work at a bar and they need a new dj and have asked me if I want to start. I think it would be fun and it does interest me but all the buttons and stuff scare me. Would really appreciate some advice on what to do to get started even like a starter pack to help me practice
I am looking to buy the Pioneer DDJ-FLX4, and read that it comes with a version of Rekordbox (RB). I already have a small MIDI keyboard, and was wondering if it's possible to connect the keyboard and the pioneer controller to the same instance of RB and use the keyboard to trigger additional sounds, like kick drums/snares.
Is anyone else, who’s fairly new to mixing also experiencing what I am? I start messing around here and there and I create a sick transition I like, set up hot cues etc. but the next day I forgot what I did, because I do a a lot every session. So today I started writing down the nice stuff I did so I won’t forget.
Anyone else feel that way sometimes?
(Also since I am very new to mixing, I have to get to know more songs and my songs better. Right now, I look into my soundcloud library, see all the titles, but they don’t play in my head. For most of them, I need to hear the first few bars to know which one it is.)
Where do I go to ask if anyone has a remix of The Cure Let’s go to bed?
Currently looking for a usb stick and wondering what the best option would be or what to look out for
Hi,
I'm new to DJing and I was wondering what was the DJ doing at 13:26 ?
As I can see there's no other channel open and my understanding was that it's the trim button but all the way to the right means increasing the sound right ?
The "transition" is not really one because it's just the end of the track (Moaner from Underworld) so ...
Thanks for your help !
Fairly new, picked up the FLX4 over the holiday. I’ve been tinkering and figuring out Rekord box. Anyone have a favorite online beginner courses? I see 1: Masters Class 2: Phil Harris and 3: CrossFader Has anyone tried these out, or have suggestions from one you have had success with? Thank you!

DJ Shota does these "mellow works" series. He seemingly transitions and uses mixing techniques without headphones or a laptop monitor.
How is making sure everything is sync?
I come from a purely ddj and cdj side so I'm used to always seeing waveforms or just matching with headphones so I'm kind of confused here.
Hi, I consider myself a bit of a beginner again having taken a 12+ year break from spinning vinyl.
I am interested in knowing more about the Rane 12 MK2s and how anyone would incorporate using STEMS with them?
I imagine as they do not have as many buttons as other controllers (Rane Performer for example) it is entirely dependant on the choice of mixer, and that means going for something with all of those additional pads so you can assign STEMs - have I got that right?
If this is the case I have been trying to weigh up my options between a Rane Performer or some Rane 12 MK2s and a mixer like a Reloop Elite or a Rane 72/70.
I visited a reputable DJ equipment retailer today, I was dazzled by the "shinies" of the Rane Performer with its dedicated STEM buttons and the convenience around the deck itself, but the heart desires bigger platters the Rane 12 has, and potentially turntablism mash up dabbling, which I think both set ups would be capable of (12 MK2s and Performer).
If money was no object, I would buy the lot. I'm keen to hear your take though.
This is just an expensive hobby for now, I have no intentions of becoming a prodigy.. (yet!).
My QSC KSub started rattling instead of producing bass, I’m assuming it’s blown out. It’s very old and out of warranty at this point, and I bought a QSC KS112 to replace it. Any advice on taking it to a speaker shop for repair, or selling it as is for like $100? I don’t plan on using it again, and they’re reselling for around $600 used. Not sure if the repair cost/hassle would be worth it to get more resale value.
hi everyone! i recently decided to learn the art of djing. i’m still a beginner but i know most basic things (bpm, switching tracks, etc) & i have watched countless videos on youtube about djing. i currently use serato dj lite on my computer to practice, but im still struggling with comprehending what i’m learning. are there any affordable dj classes out there that i can take? or maybe any websites that offer better help? thank you in advance! :)
Hi everyone, l've been DJing dorm parties at my university for the past couple month and was looking to upgrade my sound system. I'm currently using two CDJ 1000s and a DJM800 mixer as my set up, and Presonus Eris 3.5 speakers. While these speakers are a small, great, and affordable pair of studio monitors, I am looking for something that would deliver more noise in all frequency ranges (especially low end). Does anyone have any recommendations for speakers that I could hook up to my mixer? Thanks
(Apologies for cross-posting)

this has been killing me for days. its a track that goes “bad man, im a bad man” something like that. ive heard it in a couple of mixes recently. but cant find it for the life of me thank you
I recently inherited some old DJ equipment, but I honestly have no idea how it works. I’m looking for advice on how to test it to see if everything is still functioning properly. The gear looks like it’s been well used, and I want to make sure I’m not missing anything important.
Additionally, if anyone could help me figure out what price category this gear might fall into, that would be super helpful. I’m not sure if it’s vintage, rare, or just outdated, but I want to get a good sense of its value.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
I really have difficulties to find the right moment, i have no clue what phrasing means and/or, i guess there are tracks which are just impossible to mix. Ive spent like 30 minutes now and tried to mix these 2 tracks. They are at the same bpm and key.
Track 1: Lil Mabu Trip to the Hood (Lil mabu X Cure97)
Track 2: Nonstop w/Jaxon Pryce (Hurting Murphy)
Edit: How about just mixing both songs, posting a link and tell me how its done instead of "do your research first"...i mean wtf. Thats what i would do as an experienced dj. Id dm this guy and send him a link, "look this is how id do it, maybe".
Did you guys even listen to the songs? Imagine no intro, no outro no DJ extended edit version whatever. Vocals and kickdrums throughout the entire song, so any chance for a good mix? No STEMS nothing, just mixing. Thats what im asking. Its not that i bought my equip and first thing i do is asking reddit, before trying, watching, reading whatever.
đź‘‹ just bought the Numark NS4FX. My last controller the output leds were assigned to the channel playing but on this deck they just duplicate even when only 1 channel is on.
I am using RCA’s from the booth output to my speakers (home setup) rather than the main output XLR ports. Is this why or is the controller faulty?
Thanks in advance!
First of all sorry if my English is bad. So i’ve recently fallen in love with house remixes and i can’t seem to find good remixes on beatport, beatsource etc. I know that ripping music off of Youtube and Soundcloud is bad. Especially for DJ gigs at the club, but is it still bad if the Souncloud mix/song has a free download? It’s giving me a MP3 file which i know is worse than WAV, and the one song i downloaded gave me a 192 kbps bit. My question is, is it still too bad to play at a club gig, or is it not noticeable if you can get the free download link with soundcloud.
Anyone know the best way to do this? I was using rekordbox on laptop, connected via USB port at rear of decks. During switchover, other DJ has USB stick for standalone.
On source, when trying to load deck from USB, it wouldn't allow loading onto the deck for some reason?
Hey people 🤍 are there DJs who layering they’re complete set? For example, in a 2 hrs set they’re faders are the whole time on 100% and they’re just mixing with filters, eq ect. Is this rare, unusual or a regular thing!? Let me know your experiences… :)
this week i got called with a group of other guys for an open deck where we each get 15 minutes to spin. I really want this gig but i’ve never even seen a cdj much less played on one. this is also my first time playing for people outside of a party i’ve thrown with my friends, ive only been a dj for about 2 months but i think im kinda solid. the only thing i have a hard time with is starting strong, it usually takes me a few songs to get into that flow state
