Controllerism is the art and practice of using musical software controllers, e.g. MIDI, Open Sound Control (OSC), joystick, etc., to build upon, mix, scratch, remix, effect, modify, or otherwise create music, usually by a Digital DJ or Live PA performer, often called a "controllerist".

Ever since I found out that I can chain the Hi-Kill, Mid-Kill, and Low-Kill in Traktor to create an Instant Mute (and invert this chain to create a Cut-In) I've been obsessed with this idea of using Buttons to do "Cuts" on Scratches instead of trying to do that Bounce The Fader Off Your Thumb thing that everyone does when they do Crab Scratching.
My idea is like a mix between an SC1000 and a Midi Fighter, because you have two Sanwa Arcade buttons for your "Mute" and your "Cut-In" .... So you could pretty much still do Crab Scratching by rapidly tapping on the Sanwa button as you move the Platter around.... As you tap the Button, the sound cuts back in from being Silent, and that coupled with moving the Platter will create the Fast Cuts....
What I mean is, do they only make units that come with the Internal Sound Card & Internal Music Player (USB Stick Reader) or do they also make one that just functions as a USB Midi Device to plug into a PC and sync up with Traktor or Serato?
I think that if they just made a pure Midi Device without all the extra stuff, it would be waaaay cheaper.
I'll probably get laughed at for even suggesting this, but what mods can you do to an old, cheap Ion DJ USB Controller?
I know it's not a "Portable Deck" like the PT-01, but these things are still around and they're decent if all you're doing is messing around to make a pre-made Scratch file to play in Reason's Dr. Rex loop / clip player. (you cut and save the best pieces and then "build" a scratch sequence -- Forward / Backward / Wiggle (Both) / Sample Played Normally).
Anyway, one thing I always wondered was how come none of the companies who made these little plastic contraptions ever thought to try putting a motor in 'em? I can't imagine you needing very much power or torque to rotate a little plastic jog wheel.
Has anyone ever gutted an Ion to see what it looks like on the inside and see what makes it tick?

I'm looking to build an app that receives Open Sound Control (OSC) data from Serato DJ Pro.
AFAIK, Serato utilizes OSC for apps like SoundSwitch (which sends DMX signals to control lighting fixtures). I'm looking to build an app to receive the OSC data from Serato DJ during a performance, such as the following:
(for each deck)
My goal is to take this data and route them to another app, such as Ableton Live, to control playback of a set.
Does anyone know how to receive OSC data from Serato DJ?
More information:
I am using the DMXIS VST plugin for Abelton Live to pre-program automation data to control DMX lights (similar to how SoundSwitch works). My custom app would ideally run in the background and allow me to perform in Serato DJ and synchronize the pre-programed light show automations from Ableton Live in real time.
I plan to create one Ableton .ALS set file per song which contains the DMX light show automation data for that song. As a new song is loaded in a Serato deck, played, and controlled (tempo, hot cue jumps, loops, etc.), the app would synchronize this to its corresponding Ableton Live set.
