Tadich Grill recommendations

I'm working through my SF must-eats over the course of 26 years and I've yet to hit Tadich. What are your must-haves there?

Looking for a better Spa job that is actually busy and also pays decent

Howdy people of San Francisco, I am currently working at a 5 star/ bougie spa as a massage therapist, but this company has had slow business for the 3 years I’ve been here. For everyone. Was wondering if anyone could point me in a better direction? I currently make $45hr 20% tips. This would be great, except it’s slow and no one else I work with has ever had a raise. I want to work somewhere that is decent, pays well, AND is busy. What’s the point of making good money if you can’t build a clientele…

Car cosmetic work

Does anybody know a shop that offers sandblasting for their rims? Want to repaint a used set of rims but need to start fresh.

Cozy Fireplace?

Looking for somewhere to read my book this weekend in the city next to a fireplace. I’ve seen most of the bars / restaurant options and some look alright, but would prefer something a little quieter. Maybe a cafe or a hotel lobby? I know wood burning fireplaces are banned so might be tricky but let me know of any ideas!

FasTrak Clean Air Vehicle - 2024 RAV4 Hybrid

Is applying for FasTrak CAV worth it if I usually go through bridges/pay toll a few times a year? I know it might expire Sep 2025, and there's an extra application process before actually signing up for my FasTrak, so there'd only be maybe ~6 months that I have my FasTrak with my car being a CAV.

I saw on another Reddit thread that you save 50% for toll which is a lot but it might not be worth all the extra work if I'll have to pay toll only a few times.

Also since I'm already posting here about FasTrak, what's the difference between the FasTrak Flex Switchable Transponder and the Standard Transponder?

firewood

I used to pick up firewood at lazzari at the round house near bayshore but since it's closed I don't know where to get a bunch of cheap wood in bulk for the winter. Open to delivery or pick up (preferably near sf!) if anyone has any recommendations or experience!

Martunis performance times

I’d like to see some of the amazing karaoke performances for a date night tonight especially since it’s now the holiday season however I’m struggling to find the performance schedule.

Their phone number doesn’t seem to work and on Facebook it looks like they have martini Mondays? Does that mean they don’t perform on Tuesdays?

Thanks in advance

Best place to sell/donate old academic textbooks?

I've got a small number of old math or math-adjacent textbooks (linear algebra, computational theory, things of that nature) that I want to get rid of. Normally I take old fiction books to Goodwill, but I don't know if there's a better-known place to deal with things that are specifically textbooks. I'm more interested in donation, but if there's a market for them, I'd be interested to hear about that as well. Thanks!

How long should it take for DMV to mail my License?

Hi all, I went into the DMV last Wednesday to renew my license and when I check the status online, it says the following:

An application for card is being processed for XXXX. Your card has not yet been mailed. No further action is required

Is it normal to still see a processing status days after my renewal date? People told me it takes about a week so I'm just a bit worried that they haven't even mailed it out yet.

Pilates studio / class recommendations specifically for core strength issues?

Like the title says, looking for a Pilates instructor studio that is focused on core strengthening and proper posture specfically. I've seen a few places recommended on this subreddit but not for this specifically. Thanks in advance!

Need help contacting Apollo Nightlife SF promoters

(Hope this is the right place to ask)

My friend lost his phone and fanny pack on Saturday 11/30 in San Francisco. He was at an event hosted by Apollo Nightlife SF at The Record Bar on Eddy St.

He hasn't had any luck contacting them via phone, email or social media so any help would be much appreciated! 🥹

Gift ideas for Chinese New Year?♡

Since I was a little girl, we’ve had this Chinese neighbor every year come gift us something around this time. She’s very kind and, my family has never given anything back.

I’d like to surprise them anonymously with a bunch of traditional things that are usually gifted during the Chinese New year. Does anyone have any ideas? or, advice against gifting something taboo in Chinese culture?

So far, I think I’ll get them a box of persimmons because they’re in season (and so yummy!)

I’m clueless otherwise ;pp help!! xx

(PS. Does anyone know when the perfect date would be to give it?)

Place to knit in The Mission?

I am bringing a car to be worked to a repair shop around 26th and Mission. I fear it will be an all-day job and would love to find a place I can hunker down for several hours to finish a Christmas present.

I’m happy to buy a meal and keep buying coffee or tea, if there are any ideas. In the “olden days,” I would have probably gone to The Pie Shop or the Original Philz.

Interning in SF over the summer?

Hi there! I'm a college student from Pittsburgh and I've been looking into internships over the summer. I have narrowed it down to either staying in Pittsburgh or going to SF. Here are the details:

  1. It is an education program and it is about nine weeks over the summer. I was a student at the PGH site.
  2. PGH and SF both provide free housing for teachers. SF provides transportation and pays for airfare.
  3. The program provides breakfast and lunch on most weekdays.
  4. SF pays a higher stipend.

I'm hesitant because it's across the country, and I'd be traveling alone. I've never left PA. Thoughts?

New Years Eve show/concert

My girlfriend and I are visiting and will be there over New Year’s Eve. What/where would you suggest to spend NYE?

We are very open to ideas. Want something fun, rather than specific to our tastes.

Maybe a concert of rock, rap, reggae? Comedy show? What you got??? What’s your favourite venue? Cheers

Buy a 3D Raised Relief Map of San Francisco or California in person

I'm looking to buy a 3d map with exaggerated elevation in person. Don't want to buy online as quality can vary widely and they are an expensive purchase.

Any place in San Francisco that carries these?

Physical therapist (foot) in network with United Healthcare PPO

Hi! Does anyone have a good recommendation for a physical therapist that is in network with United Healthcare (PPO)? Even better if they are within the mission bay/mission/glen park/excelsior borders. I broke my big toe and need help learning how to walk on my foot correctly again.

Thank you!

What is up with Lyft bikes?

Ive been using Lyft bikes for 3 years now, I think they’re the best way to travel around the city. But for the past few weeks, it’s been a pain to find one in the morning, at least in my area! Has everyone in NOPA chosen to use Lyft bikes all of a sudden, or is Lyft just not as good as they used to be? 😭

carpentry services?

this may be a long shot, but:
I have a giant end grain wood cutting board that is simply too unwieldy. I would like to get it sawed in half, but I am not comfortable renting equipment and trying to figure out how to do it myself.

Is there somewhere I can bring it to get it professionally cut? would that even be wise, given that it itself is a giant block of glued-together wood?

thanks!

[Recommendation] Dermatologist/Deep Acne Scar repair

Does anyone have a dermatologist in the city that they recommend that can help with deep acne scars from 15+ years ago? I was going to go to Arya because it was recommended but I heard alot of bad reviews on reddit about how they saw no results even with 6+ sessions and thousands of dollars.

Anyone heard of Dr. Kaveri Karhade in SF?

Recs for Hand made tacos

Does anyone have some recommendations for a taco place within the city limits that does the hand made ones? I’m not talking about the thin tortillas where they put two of them, I’m talking about the thicker ones, you know they start as the balls of uncooked corn flour dough, that they hand press, and then throw on the grill to cook? Thank you for your help.

City Arts and Lecture Membership Question

Good morning, this is so highly specific, so I apologize, but maybe someone can help. I purchased a City Arts and Lecture membership on Nov. 25 in anticipation of purchasing Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson tickets today. When I log into City Box Office, it’s saying I have no membership. I clearly see the charge on my credit card, purchased using the same email I used to log into City Box Office. They don’t open until the ticket sale starts.

Is it an issue if it’s not linking my membership to my account? Or when the tickets go up, will there be another mechanism to prove membership?

I appreciate any insight.

Places/areas to stay & vegetarian restaurants

Hi! I'm sure this gets asked a lot but I'm visiting with my wife for a few days in March next year and would love some suggestions of neighbourhoods or places to stay. We love food, art, walking around, music (lively neighbourhoods are good for us!). We're from Vancouver so not stressed about visible homelessness/drug use.

We also love old, interesting, or weird hotels. Anything with a bit of character!

Also, if you have any recommendations for good vegan or vegetarian restaurants that would also be appreciated.
