Anyone here a CPS worker? Pros and cons?
How much should I expect to pay for cleaning a 700 sq feet 1 bedroom apartment? Any recommendations?
Going to the Swan Songs charity event tomorrow night. Any two dimensional ideas of avoiding the $60 valet parking fee? I like giving my money to this worthy charity, but not the hotel. TIA.
Hello everyone! This is my first time posting here. I am a 22 y/o male trying to find a place to live in austin for 4 months from early jan 25 to early may 25 for work.
I'm hoping to get some recommendations as to what/where I should look for. Airbnb seems very expensive for what you get, and some apartments on craigslist seems a little shady.
I will be working in the oak hill area, ideally I would want my own room and bathroom, I'm open to sharing the house/apartment with other people but if I can get my own place that'd be nice too. My budget is 1800-ish or less per month including utilities. I'm open to paying more, I havent accounted for food budgeting just yet, I'm from california where I spend roughly 800-1000 on food, so idk what i need for same standard in Austin.
I appreciate all your help!
I'm looking for a daily paying job since I'm homeless. I just got here to Austin too.
Hey everyone I'm currently out of a job due to doing freelance work in the audiovisual industry, does anyone have am idea where I could apply for a full-time? I have a bachelor's degree and was a technical director for a jazz club, along with concert production at the Moody center and f1 stage. Willing do to different type of job. R/austinjobs does not help they keep redirecting me to other freelance gigs, and I'm tight on time and money.
I currently lives in North Austin and work in East Downtown. My commute has gotten worse over time, so I am thinking of moving closer to work. Any apts you would recommend?
Me and my best friend are in need of a place to stay. We're 23 n 27. Nothing more than a couple days would help a lot at this point
Hi all visiting for a couple of days and would love to drive arround in a waymo car but seems to be invite only. Any way i could get in a driverless car? Waymo or other? Thanks!! Beautiful city

New build for this price in a cool neighborhood. What’s the catch?
Ideally I’d like to live in South Austin but my priority is somewhere generally safe and well-maintained. I’m going to be attending ACC and want to live close to a campus as well, so if anyone is a student I’d love to hear your renting experience. Thanks!
My dad used to live here in the 80s and 90s and he's visiting. He wants to go downtown and walk around but I dont know where to go since I dont go out much. Someone suggest me someplace to take him to walk around?
My cats have been having a spray war the last few months and we have tried so many things.
Hi!
I don't live in the Austin area but I found a Scion (Toyota brand) that I'm extremely interested in. I want to either drive, bus, or fly in to look and potentially purchase the car. Would prefer to have a trusted mechanic look it over before purchasing, though.... Can anyone recommend? Is this something I could Task Rabbit or is there another type of service on demand around Austin?
I live in Pflugerville and am completely put off by the traffic mess at the Long Center. I'd like to park at a safe place and Uber in for the kids to see The Nutcracker. Suggestions? How about the Metro Rail stations?
I am a 24 year old 3rd year IT student(Online) who came to the states 11 months ago and never moved from Tucson. I started working as a front desk in a hotel the whole time.
The heat in Tucson and lack of greenery made me to make a decision to move to east side. So I visited my aunt in Bethlehem Pennsylvania to see if I like it. I like Bethlehem but the job market here is not that great.
I have decided to either settle in New jersey or Austin. I chose new jersey becuase it's close to bethelehem and if I rent here and find a job in new jersey and also it's close to NYC so too many opportunities job wise.
I chose Austin becuase the rents were cheaper then new jersey on zillow for a studio or 1 bed apartment and also since my major is tech I would have better career options there in long term. The other reason is that I have a small budget to buy a house or land around(250k) which i know i won't be able to get in austin but the towns 40 to 50 miles away from Austin has many options in that range but that is not the case for new jersey even if you go 100 to 150 miles further the houses are way too expensive.
I need advice which place should I move to? Where will I be able to get a job faster since It won't be easy to rent a place without having a job(i am thinking of staying in a hotel or Airbnb untill I get a job)? Is there a difference between the income of these two places for entry level white color jobs?
I would really appreciate some advice.
EDIT: This is for a holiday themed, Family Feud style game show night at a learning center in South Austin. I’m trying out some Austin-centric “survey says” kinda questions…whaddaya say, Austin?
Anyone know of any holiday pop up markets happening in the next few months accepting vendors? I mainly sell vintage clothing and ceramic work btw
I’ve got some spare time on my hands (got laid off lol), and figured now is a better time than ever to start my little DIY brainchild in between apps and interviews.
I’m aiming to do a ~2 ft wide & ~15 ft long gravel/rock trail in my backyard.
I’ve never bought supplies for something like this before, so I wanted to pick some brains and see if anyone had money-saving ideas for gathering the gravel vs going to Lowe’s / Home Depot.
I’m watching Craigslist and have been checking OfferUp. I don’t have FB so I can’t do Marketplace.
But if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I’m all ears! Like, maybe contractor companies might have extra old gravel they’re going to dispose of after they complete a project, or maybe the city has cheap gravel like they do (I think?) mulch. Idk, just looking for something to pass the time that won’t uber break the bank or be too complicated bc I literally have never done any projects like this before lol.
I’d love any suggestions. Thanks so much!
My wife and I are in the process of buying our first home after renting for so long, and we’ve had our eyes on one of their new build communities.
WHERE CAN I GET BANDERA COOKIES? My HEB doesn’t carry them anymore and all of a sudden I’ve been without them for over 6 months and when I tell you I’ve searched numerous local panaderias and other Mexican groceries to no avail…PLEASE SOMEONE HELP
Hey everybody!
I’m hoping to visit some of the filming locations for the movie Teeth (2007) while I’m in Austin and one that I can’t find is the doctor’s office seen in the pic here. Does anyone have any ideas? The number on the door looks like 430 but that hasn’t helped me any.
Thanks everybody!
I’m trying to find a short term rental for 2-4 months but have been absolutely bombarded with scams on Facebook Marketplace and have no idea where else to look?
Do you all have any site suggestions or the best way to go about this?
I want to get ceramic tint installed. Is there am Austin place that delivers, food product, quality-install and good value?
I just moved here several months ago, after considering moving here since at least 2007. I had always heard of it compared to Pdx which also uses Keep Portland Weird. I didnt get a chance to visit again until early this year and I loved it. I still haventfigured out what the keep austin weird really means. I love it here and find that people are extremely polite and friendly. Its extremely safe and clean and affordable in comparison to where I moved from (Hawaii).
I am looking for an apartment to move into in Hyde Park. I will be working nearby so it would be convenient for me. Is there anywhere there that isn't in infested with criminal activity like burglary, drug dealing and police raids?
Someone recommended the Hyde Park neighborhood because it's safe but I am not familiar with that area when it comes to apartments.
Hey Reddit AskAustin fam. My niece and nephews are visiting next weekend to see a show at Moody Center. They are college freshman and high school junior (both under 21). I'm looking for recommendations on things to do with them while they are here.
On their last visit:
We did a self guided mural tour including stop at Churro Co Wonderspaces Mount Bonnell
I've looked for other concerts/shows but didn't see anything too compelling to Gen Z
We'll make sure everyone is well fed (Granny's, Home Slice, Ski Shores, Black's in Bastrop).
TLDR: I'd welcome recommendations for underage Gen Z tourists!

Im looking for safe place to live and student friendly as well. My budget for room max:650-850(Im mostly likely want to rent a room but if I have to I can rent studio instead of room) for studio:850-1000 if you guys have any recommendations of lease apartment, room,or good place to rent I really wanna hear it!
I moved back to Austin after many years away, and now I have a 5yo who loves ballet but has never been to a performance. I'd like to take her to see The Nutcracker, but I'm afraid everybody else in the theater will hate me if she does anything slightly annoying but age-appropriate. On the other hand, if this production is well attended by children and she'll fit right in, presumably others in the audience won't mind if she is bad at whispering or whatever. She's pretty well behaved, but at these prices, I'm nervous about bringing her and potentially hurting other peoples' experiences. In other cities I've lived in, the local ballet company will often have a couple of shows that are intended for children so they can all be slightly disruptive at the same time. But it doesn't seem that BA offers anything like that.
I'd love some advice to help me decide if I should be buying tickets now or not. Thanks!
Edit: Thank you so much, everyone! I got some seats for us at the front of the mezzanine. :)
