Fishing talk for the Austin Tx area
/r/AustinFishing
Howdy everyone. Still somewhat new to the south Austin area, and trying to figure out some good fly fishing spots. I see on TDFW they stock the onion creek upper falls, but does anyone know where specifically?
I have a few rods that could be fixed and maybe some reels that need some service. Does anyone know of any shops that would be worth looking into?
Hey All,
The next Texas Bass Bash tournament is live. Registration is open from now until the last day of the tournament (February 28th). Identifiers will start being sent out to registrants February 1st. Get some!

Cheers!
I just want a singular rig/pole to easily have some type of action whether it’s big or small! (Bottom)
I have tried kingfisher and bullfrog before but never have been able to catch much. I’d be willing to travel an hour as I’ve been having a hankering for bluegill po boys. Would appreciate any suggestions.
Does anyone have any fishing spot recommendations in the North Austin area? Every spot that looks interesting looks to be private like Quarry Lake. Is Quarries park worth going to? Something closer than Lake Pflugerville?
Now that it’s getting cold, the bite has slowed down quite a bit for me. The only thing that seems to work for me lately is a drop shot worked very slowly. What’s working for y’all?
Planning on heading out, but not fly fishing. Does anyone know if it's good right now/this time of year?
My teen son loves bass fishing. His birthday is in a few days. Where should we take him. Up to about 3 hrs from the Austin area. We have a boat, kayaks and waders. Traditional gear, fly fishing, etc.
He really wants to go to Toledo bend, but it's to far for a day trip.
Any place for Florida bass?
We hit Inks through Travis lakes really often. The Guad for trout, is fairly normal too.
Thanks!
Hi, relatively new to fishing! Nice day looking to get some bank fishing in, got some nightcrawlers. Where should I try out?
Hey All,
First tournament was a blast. Come join us for the next one. Please be sure to read the rules.
Tight Lines!
I've had this yak for about 2 years. Used it about a half dozen times. It's amazingly fast and stable for it's size. The 14ft makes for a TON of storage space. Weight capacity is 400 lbs.
Wilderness Systems Tarpon 140
Asking $400 OBO
Hate to part with it, but I'm going to college and just can't afford to keep it. :(
Ready for a fishing trip! She just needs a cap'n!

💎 Only used handful of times on Lady Bird (arthritis getting the best of me)
🩹 If you boat, you know that they all put in work from day 1. The usual scrapes from a couple loads&launches. I'd just consider her "test driven" ha. (She's mostly stayed stored away.)

I moved back to Austin after a few years away and picked up salt water fishing while I was gone.
I'm getting skunked so far on bass and am thinking maybe doing a trip with a guide might help. Any recommendations?
Edit: want to target freshwater, bass
Hey guys! Where are some good little ponds that have good bass fishing? I’ve gone to a few, but didn’t have any luck.
Hey Guys,
The A-Tex Bass Sprint starts today. You can join any time during the 10-day tournament, but would love to see more guys get involved. To join, register on TourneyX (website or app) and search for the "A-Tex Bass Sprint." Cost is $30, and the 3 longest bass total wins.
It's a very relaxed tournament open to anglers of all skill levels. Pretty much the only thing you need is a measuring board which you can get at most sporting good stores locally or on Amazon. (As cheap as ~$15)
Please reach out if you have questions and I hope to see you all out on the water. Don't be bashful - it's going to be fun!
Let me know if you need more details!
I’m looking to fish for some catfish, but all my favorite spots close at sunset. Is there anywhere I can bank fish after dark?
Hello,
I have a piece of property 35 minutes south east of Austin with a 2-3 acre pond that I am in the process of stocking with bass, bluegill, and pan fish (from a professional fish stocking company that helps build healthy pond ecosystems) Mainly use this for myself and family but as the cost of stocking it and making it stay nice has been going up I was wondering if there would be any interest in doing a membership to come fish here? I know there is a company called private water fishing but they charge so much for people to fish at the their ponds average is 100 bucks a day plus a monthly membership fee. This seems totally crazy to me and as a long time avid fisher I can’t justify charging anyone that much. Have been thinking about building a couple of shade structures, pic nic tables and putting a couple of bathrooms there as well if there is interest. Figured I would ask the Austin fish community their thoughts.
Hey Guys,
I know a number of you were interested in participating in our local tournaments we're going to start hosting, but didn't have Facebook to join the group where we post them, so I'm crossposting it here.
Here's the original message:
