New to freshwater fishing in Austin. What do I do? 🐟

Hey! I have done all kinds of saltwater fishing growing up but never any freshwater. I want to catch some catfish! I want to catch eaters eventually but I just want to do some catch and release. I have been to mueller, mills pond, and Barkley meadows with no luck!

I have been playing around with a couple of bottom rigs and nothing is touching my bait. I also don’t even know if there is anything in these BOW.

Anyway! Hope to get some insight from fellow anglers! If there’s any tips I’m open to taking them!

Where to catch big bass?

I know there are big bass in a lot of places and that to some degree it's much of the draw, but I'm in a tournament right now and I just dropped to second. I need to catch 18"+ fish to move back up. Anyone have spots they'd recommend for shore fishing?

Kayak launch for beginner

The time has come… my kayaks maiden voyage is in the morning! I was thinking of going up to red bud aisle and launching there and get the hang and feel of it. But does anyone know of anywhere that I can go where it’s an easy launch as I’m new?

What’s your winner

Alright, clearly what I’m doing is wrong. It’s been such a culture shock of fishing for me. At first had great luck. But I guess CTX fishing is a whole nother beast. Last 5 trips out not even bites, jigs, spinners, food bait, live bait. Nadda

Lb test, ? Lures, ? Techniques.?

What’s the tricks?

Or is shit just overfished unless you wanna wade past snakes in the creeks.

Good spot for catfishing on travis at NIGHT?

Hey all! Does anyone know of any free public access spots on travis that you can fish at? I generally like to fish at night due to it being nicer weather. Problem is, all state parks are closed, so you cant get in after about 8 pm. A lot of the bank on travis is privately owned, so there arent many spots.

Catching Aquarium-trade Fish in ATX.

I'd like to actually catch some of the small non-native fish here in Austin for a planned aquarium project. Think platies, mollies, perhaps even some darters (which are native, from my understanding).

Any suggestions WHERE, though? I live in North Austin.

Was wondering if Walnut Creek might be a successful fishing spot.

Fishing lady bird

I’ve been to lady bird a handful of times and each time is exactly the same. I catch a really nice sized bass or two. I can’t complain, but here’s what throws me off compared to other spots.

I only get a couple bites usually. And specifically on either a Texas rigged worm or a top water. And for the top water - it only works if I run into a school feeding on the surface. Nothing else I’ve tried seems to work.

Is this pretty standard for a ladybird fishing day?

It’s very grassy too so I know the lure options are limited which can be frustrating as well.

Just looking for some insight or tips to see if I can catch more than a couple fish each time I go. Appreciate it!

Visiting Austin

Hi all, Will be visiting Austin shortly from Australia. Big fisho here, hoping to catch a bass in the Colorado river. Any tips or anything I should know before hand? Packed a 6-10lb travel rod with 15lb line and 10lb leader - where would you suggest to go?
