The family is heading to Thicket Food Park in South Austin today since we're in the area. Two adults (one vegetarian) and two middle schoolers. What should we absolutely try while we're there? Anything we need to avoid?
I don’t see Rolling Rooster get a lot of love in this subreddit but it’s some of the best fried chicken and waffles in town.
IMO it’s just as good as Whip My Soul.
I think Rolling Rooster flies under the radar for most people because of the location but for taste and price it’s worth a drive north.
I love the egg tarts from 85 degrees but I’m wondering if there’s a place that sells them in bulk at a cheaper rate. Costco used to have these frozen egg tarts but I haven’t seen them since they were removed. Any ideas ?
Austin speciality
I loved Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot on Seton and since it closed it's been a minute since I've been able to have the same kind of festive hot pot experience, but I found it tonight with Soupleaf! Classy but fun and festive atmosphere, built-in individual boilers, and every single ingredient was high quality and delicious. I was waiting for a catch regarding the "all you can eat" but all the meats and everything were part of the price. The meats were fantastic and had a good variety that I immediately lost track of in the soup, but the real star was the wide variety of seafood and vegetables and fresh noodles. I don't think you'd miss out on much with the $25 lunch but I still feel like I got more than my money's worth for the $35 dinner. I absolutely stuffed myself and am so full, but I don't feel heavy and bloated. Highly recommend, glad to see they're getting good business.
The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the Tom Yum soup, maybe if you've grown up with it then it's good but it was too tangy/sour and distracting for my taste. I want to go again and try the Tonkotsu broth. Maybe Thanksgiving?
To be fair it’s ten bucks for a 1/2 pound but I’ve never gotten less than six wings for a half pound at nickel city. If you can’t make more than 4 wings work for ten bucks just take it off the menu.
Hi folks! After two years of searching for a small spot and three months of preparing the space, I finally opened a restaurant in Round Rock. We are Sate Texas, serving Indonesian skewers grilled over charcoal. We have chicken, pork, beef, and tempe. We started as a food trailer and festival vendor in the Austin area and now upgraded to a brick-n-mortar space. Come on down and check us out!

My standard is Mushishino. I like Yanagi (West William Cannon) alright, but I'm seeking new sushi places on the calliber of Mushishino. Is that a thing in South Austin? Yes, Uchi is incredible and is south Austin, but I'm looking for more traditional nigiri sushi type place, and also, further south ( like ideally right around Ben White)
Yes I know, I’ve been to thundercloud, but what I’m looking for is something similar to this sandwich I had at a spot that is now closed. Was behind tacorrido on oltorf and south 1st, I think it was called G’s? I went there once and had a sandwich that had lays chips in it and it was phenomenal. Is there a place in town that makes a sandwich like that?
Hello, I have recently started dating and I wanted to take my partner to a formal date (i.e. a place where she can wear a nice dress). I am currently in college so I'm not sure I could afford a super extravagant place, but I can definitely afford somewhere nice. I looked on google and yelp but I wanted the opinion of someone from here as well. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank You!
They emailed me a few days ago but they still have some spots open and I’d hate that they go to waste!

Is it possible to just eat food at top golf without having to play any games ?
As someone who loves food deals, does anyone have a list of local restaurants celebrating this wonderful day? 🥰 (sorry if this doesn’t belong here I’m usually a lurker)
Sorry if this is not the correct Austin Reddit to ask in but any recommendations on a bar that serves different varieties of Martinis or specialize in Martinis?
Coming to Austin for a quick day trip on Monday and trying to figure out what to eat but all the places I look up (all day, sammataro, pedrosos, jewboy) are closed on Monday or don't open til 5pm.
Can you guys please recommend me somewhere that is open on Monday around lunchtime hours? I'm leaning towards a slice of pizza or a burger but up for any suggestions
Any restaurants in Austin currently serving Foie Gras?
Howdy! I was at JewBoy Subs for lunch today and the owner was there on the patio with a man who looked familiar and they had a film crew and assistants.
Vague I know, but curious who he was.
Does anyone know where I can find loose leaf Yerba mate around the city?
I’ve been passing by this unassuming looking food truck on South first for the past few months as I work out at heat bootcamp right nearby. Decided to order a carne asada taco today and it was freaking delicious. It comes with two types of salsa, guacamole, and of course, cilantro y cebolla. I will be back soon for the Pirata. Super sweet guy working there as well, I’ll have to chat with him more next time and find out the deal. Seems like he’s probably from Monterey where they know what they’re doing with carne asada!
PS apologies for the terrible photo, but I can assure you it was much more delicious than it looks
What happened to Wu Chow? Went for lunch and they were closed with a lock out notice for nonpayment of rent.
Hi all! I am curious to know if any new restaurants, or even second locations that are being planned for 2025 in the central Texas region! Any leads would be much appreciated. (I am a furniture building looking to get some traction by reaching out to restaurants to see if they have a need for dining room furniture.)
