In searching for a Yates American “snowflake” bandsaw, my brother came across this Oliver 30” unit.  It was in Montana, but had spent time on a U.S. Navy ship (see pix for the stamp).  He purchased it and stripped it down, sandblasted, painted and reassembled it.  All the bearings (which were in oil baths) were replaced with modern, permanently lubricated bearings…but he kept all the oil points and reservoirs for the vintage look.  New tires were epoxied on and the wheels were taken to vintage tool experts for crowning and balancing.  The motor was essentially intact, but the leads had to be replaced from damage and age.  Reassembly was fairly straightforward, but the upper wheel shaft was suspect of being out of true.  A local machine shop helpfully measured the runout, which proved to be minimal (a couple thousandths, i think).  After it was all put together and connected to the second VFD box (the first drives a Northfield 12” jointer, seperate post), we found the band to be oscillating a bit.  From the perspective of an operator, the band was moving toward and away, maybe a sixteenth of an inch.   The upper wheel seemed to be out of true.  Much consternation and messing about led to changing the band (sometimes the welds are not quite right) and making some tweaks to how the upper carriage unit moved.  The oscillation has been either significantly reduced or eliminated, depending on the run and the band.  It is still in a break in period, so hopefully we get a better bead on exactly what is going on.  If you look back in my posts, you’ll see this is on the second floor of a small barn.  Years ago, we lifted and reset the barn on a new foundation and added a w-section down the midline of the second floor to help stiffen the floor.  That was good enough for normal machines, but when we started to add these vintage (heavy!) units, we had to sister paralams to the joists and reframe the garage door opening with twin 2x16 paralam beams.  But now, that old iron sits pretty with negligible floor bounce.  Had to bring in a forklift to bring the units up.  Fun!  Controls are all 24v and line reactors are used on the VFD output to protect the old motor insulation from the high frequency artifacts produced.

And as with all searches, a Y/A snowflake (20”) popped up just after the Oliver arrived.  It sits waiting its turn for rebuild.  I’ll add an Imgur photo album in the comments in the next 10 mins or so.

I picked up this old try square along with some other items recently and was wondering if anybody had more information on it. I tried searching the internet and reverse image search but couldn't find anything. 
To me it looks like a horse or cat playing with some sort of ball.

New to me

I acquired a walker turner drill press.  I cannot find a serial number anywhere on the machine.  I do have a 4 digit number on the top but that's about it.  Is there any particular place I should be looking that I may have missed?

Trying to find info

I'm reconditioning an old Grinnell vise . I'm in need of 2 stove bolts that hold the jaws to the vise. These are 5/16 by 16 tpi. All coarse thread ones today have 18 tpi. I've found nothing on the Internet.  I did post on garage journal also, with no luck. Hoping to reach a different audience here. Thank you

Looking for info on one of my great grandfathers tools.

As far as I can see there are no markings on it about manufacturing company or country of origin. I've heard it was common practice then to not mark the tools companies made at all so I am trying to find someone with more knowledge than I possess! 

I would be extremely appreciative of any help as it was my grandfather's of 93 and he recently passed away and I am a big hobbiest in carpentry!

VINTAGE J. A. SEXAUER MFG. CO. Inc. "HANDY ANDY No. 2 A - BIBB SCREW ASSORT." 

Hi I am cleaning these up and restoring from my father-in-law's collection to hand on to his grandsons. I am curious to know what brand these are and a rough age. Also trying to determine when they were manufactured if they would have been painted or had some sort of coating. The mark on the right says ---OMANN, with Solingen underneath and on the left, far as I can tell, is a cobra, which looks familiar.

Also, is it ok to spray these with WD40 to stop rust returning?

Help with identification

Hi, so google lens doesn’t help.  Searching Beatrice tools etc also did not help other than there’s a vintage meat grinder named Beatrice…and there’s a post from about a year ago on here with this exact wrench.  Anyone have any info on Beatrice tools?
