The Takoma Park Co-Op is a food collective in Takoma Park Maryland. All of the workers and all of the members are considered to be owners. It is a huge resource for local vegans with a large variety of vegan foods, vegan specialty foods, extensive bulk bins, organic produce, and more.
It has been closed down all summer while the ancient and worn out insides have been remodeled.
Went to Cielo Rojo in takoma Park tonight for the first time and delighted to see they had a Vegan menu and the food was great. Highly recommend it.
But it's also so ironic that all their menus come in leather binders. ah well.
fwiw there is a gas station across the road that turned its pumps into EV chargers too!
Came across this and figured I'd share. Looks like a fun time with some interesting speakers. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/join-the-launch-party-for-climate-diet-tickets-947102327557
FYI for anyone going to the Ren Faire.
"Can I bring drinks or food into the Festival?" in the FAQ
"We do allow food through the gates, but the festival does not permit coolers or other receptacles for carrying food/drinks."
I strongly suggest bringing your own food if food is an important need.
Otherwise the options are spread around and from memory consist of
As with all fast food though you're going to have cross contamination with meats and oil, and who knows what is in their batter for things, though in the past I seem to recall they have that information if you ask.
Was sad to see that it's gone in Georgetown.
Doubly sad cause we had planned on getting a snack there, and then we also discovered our backup Bakeshop now closed at 2 as well it is no longer all vegan :(
Tyra Banks has an ice cream pop up in Woodly for a month or two.
While the website lists 2 vegan flavors this one only has the Chocolate Cookie & Cream.
It's decent, actually creamy, but a little pricy too for the size, so I wouldn't go out of my way for it and preferably go to Van Leeuwen in Adams Morgan if you can
https://www.smize.com/our-flavor note this only shows you flavors on mobile.
Reddit closes subreddits when they aren't very active.
I'm doing my part, I made this thread. :-)
What is your favorite vegan place to eat these days?
I've been going to Seneb in Takoma/DC again.
Hey yall! I'm the new mod because the previous one seems to have been banned from Reddit.
This isn't the most active group, but if there are any automated things that have been hindering your use of it please let me know.
I'm very interested in promoting veganism through local community and support of businesses and initiatives in the DMV area.
HappyCow is not in the best financial state unfortunately. It's been around for 20 years, but a couple years ago they seemingly had to be acquired to stay around and as part of that their budget was reduced, though at least they still exist.
Eric doesn't give a lot of suggestions in the post below, but I think the more we use HC, contribute reviews, and update it (anyone can suggest updates) the better off it will be.
Also they have a store if you weren't aware and get a referal bonus if you buy through their links
I really appreciate Eric's (founder) candor and transparency:
Good morning! Looking for some kid-friendly vegan restaurants in the DMV area. Two most promising places I found with a search seem to have shut down (Sticky Fingers and Todd Gray’s Muse Sunday brunch).
Would appreciate suggestions!
Love WiseGuy for having vegan slices, it's the only* option in the area and now there's one in DuPont
https://www.wiseguypizza.com/locations
However be careful with the new DuPont location until they settle in.
I went in this weekend and
* We the Pizza technically has a vegan slice, but it's super deep, no cheese and lots of veggies/pesto. Good but not really pizza.
When Fancy Radish closed last year, DC Vegan hired their executive chef. Does anyone know if they've made their mark so to speak on the food yet?

I haven't really eaten there in several months, somewhat because I've found the food to be very much on the spectrum of "OK to bad". In particular I remember a creamy pasta that was just too much cream and with a way too tangy taste...
Has the quality gotten better yet?

I do love their cheese offerings and sweets, as well I visited the Botanical Bar recently and the drinks and appetizers were good.
Probably a long shot; I'm sure the best bet is an Asian market but I have no idea where to start.
In particular I'm trying to create a list for niche things, so please no burger places for example; there's a lot and it's a common thing to expect to find.
Since there's a lot fewer of these kinds of places I'll take things quite a bit further outside of DC too as it's reasonable you might make a trip for a restaurant.
Currently I only have Yuan Fu for Chinese and DonutRun for donuts, I know of no all vegan Pizza, Ice Cream, Sushi for instance.
Feel free to comment here or add a comment on the sheet!
I recently discovered Maman has Vegan Croissants and their delicious.
They're exactly what you'd think a Croissant should look like and aside from a tiny bit of chewiness they taste and eat like you want too. They're $4.5 and soo good.
Maman has a few locations, Penn Quarter, Union Market area, Georgetown, and one I haven't been too in DuPont labeled as Petit Maman so I guess a smaller retail location.
The locations are all nicely decorated with plants and have lots of great seating

This is listed in my Hard to fine items sheet, feel free to suggest more things on it.
I've started a Google doc to help us find those truly difficult to find items.
Specifically I'm focusing on categories of stuff and not specific brands. So "where can I get a croissant" and not "Where can I find Violife aged cheddar"
Feel free to add items/locations as comments in the sheet or here.
